Game 2: New York New Jersey

Knicks 75 - Nets 84

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) -- Alonzo Mourning scored 13 points, including seven during a second-half run, as the New Jersey Nets beat the New York Knicks 84-75 Thursday in a preseason game.

Mourning keyed an 18-7 surge in the first seven minutes of the third quarter to turn a two-point halftime lead into a 13-point advantage for the Nets.

Less than four minutes into the third, Mourning blocked a dunk attempt by center Travis Knight, then threw down a one-handed slam over Knight about a minute later. Mourning also had six rebounds in 18 minutes.

Shandon Anderson led the Knicks with 15 points and six rebounds. Richard Jefferson had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Knicks. Rookie Maciej Lampe hit a pair of fourth-quarter 3-pointers and finished with 11 points.

Kerry Kittles added 10 points for the Nets, including five during their third-quarter run.

New Jersey coach Byron Scott gave Jason Kidd the night off for the second straight exhibition game. Brian Scalabrine sat out with a hamstring injury.

Croatian rookie Zoran Planinic, making his second straight start at point guard for the Nets, had six points, two assists and four turnovers.

Four Knicks were not dressed due to injury -- Keith Van Horn (groin), Othella Harrington (knee), Antonio McDyess (knee) and Allan Houston (knee).

With Houston and McDyess out, Charlie Ward and Knight were in the starting lineup. Ward hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 10 points in 22 minutes.

Center Dikembe Mutombo, signed Thursday by the Knicks after being waived Monday by the Nets, was listed on New York's roster but was not with the team.
