The New York Knicks look much improved over the past two years.  Regardless of our 3-3 record things are looking up.  Players are playing like they buy into what D’antoni is selling; however, we still look lost and sloppy at times.  We are missing some key things on our team.

The New York Knicks look much improved over the past two years.  Regardless of our 3-3 record things are looking up.  Players are playing like they buy into what D’antoni is selling; however, we still look lost and sloppy at times.  We are missing some key things on our team.

First, we still lack spot on three point shooters.  Danilo Gallinari is supposed to be one of them, but his play has been inconsistent early on.  Kelenna Azubuike might be considered another shooter; however, he is still out with this knee injury.  Even if he does come back he will need some time to condition and adjust to the game.  Bill Walker is inconsistent.  Toney Douglas is getting there.  The jury is still out on Andy Rautins.  Roger Mason Jr. has been a disaster.  There was a time when there was talk in getting Ray Allen, and now we can see why that was not so crazy.  Solution: We have to depend on Gallinari getting back to form and Toney Douglas becoming a consistent three point threat.

Second, Raymond Felton still has not fully grasped this system.  He is still having trouble running the pick and roll correctly and not consistently hitting his jumper or finishing at the rim.  Hopefully, this is just adjustment to a brand new system.

Third, we still need a number two star.  It is obvious that number two is supposed to be Danilo Gallinari, though he has shown otherwise.  Toney Douglas has been a pleasant surprise this year.  The only problem is if we move him into the starting line-up could he still put up the numbers he currently does?  It is one thing to be out there with the opposing teams’ starters it is another when you are putting up great numbers against the opposing teams’ bench or tired legs.  Wilson Chandler is not consistent enough in his ranged game.  As stated above, Raymond Felton has his own flaws, which currently keeps him from being that number two star.  This is a problem that may not be solved this year.  Realistically, we will have to hope that either Gallinari or Felton turn it up.  Through a miracle we can hope to acquire Carmelo without giving up a lot.

Finally and the most important point, a 44.8% field goal percentage is hurting us.  What makes matters worse our top five scorers are averaging 43.4%.  This is awful and the cause of this comes mostly down to the player.  Our guys need to be smarter in their shot selection and have to finish at the rim.  We will not win anything if this does not get corrected, FIRST.
