Marbury"I'm just talking as a fan and New Yorker who grew up loving the Knicks: Why would I give you my money to watch them? This is atrocious. Guys coming down court, just raising up 3-pointers from anywhere. The coaching is horrible. What kind of coaching is this?

If they shoot like that in the game, imagine how they shoot in practice. New Yorkers deserve better decisions form the front office and New York City has to deal with this mess."

-- Former Knick Stephon Marbury, in the New York Post

There are a lot of fans who look at this quote and are immediately turned off to it because it was said by Stephon Marbury. But guess what? Right now, Stephon Marbury, the fan, is looking quite right about our team. If this quote was said by another person or if it was anonymous, I am sure more fans would agree with this assessment after the first game of the season.

Let us break-down the quote:

“… Why would I give you my money to watch them? This is atrocious…”

Last season was hard to watch. Pre-season is pre-season. The first game of this season looked very bad. Personally, I am a cheap person. I do not like to spend money. People in this economy are strapped for cash. Our team not only looses to the Heat, but we lose ugly.

I have to agree with the word “atrocious.” This is a bad product. I do not spend my money on a bad product.

“…Guys coming down court, just raising up 3-pointers from anywhere…”

We shot 10 for 39 threes. It almost looks like a college basketball system. If you lack talent, you chuck threes because statistics tell you that you have a better chance of winning then playing any other way. I looked at the box score for the Suns in the 2006 playoffs, and the highest amount of three point attempts was 27. In the other games their attempts were in the low 20s. Which brings me to the next point…

“…The coaching is horrible. What kind of coaching is this?...”

Is this what D’antoni is telling his players to do? Is this how he is coaching them? Anybody who plays sports competitively knows that when the coach tells you to do something, and you do not do it, your ass is on the bench. Are our players just not listening to D’antoni? I cannot imagine this was his game plan against the heat. To be fair, it was our first game. We will see what happens in the future. But as of right now, I am not impressed.

“…If they shoot like that in the game, imagine how they shoot in practice….”

I don’t want to imagine what they do in practice.

“…New Yorkers deserve better decisions form the front office and New York City has to deal with this mess…”

Knicks’ fans do deserve better. The front office hired a coach that is famous for his run ‘n’ gun Pheonix Suns and it looks like we have the Kennesaw State Owls (no offense to you guys). I understand our previous regimes have hurts us in personnel and it will take time to get out of the mess. I hope that next year brings new and better things.

So, take away the name Stephon Marbury, and you have a fan here with a legitimate case against the Knicks. The sad thing is this was said before the regular season started. Our guys played like Stephon Marbury told it.
