|LeBron James turns down New York and joins the Miami Heat|
These are the words coach Mike D'Antoni said yesterday when the Knicks learned about LeBron James' decision to go in Florida and join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to form a deadly trio for the Miami Heat. The announcement came last night live at ESPN in an one hour show at 9pm EST.
Although many people speculated this, and all the rumors and reports were pointing to Miami ever since last morning, this was still shocking news for most of the Knicks and Cavaliers fans who both thought the choice would be either Cleveland or New York. These were the sole teams with real chances of landing James with the possibility of signing him with a multi year maximum contract.
LeBron stated at ESPN that he made up his mind last morning after discussions with close friends and family and said he decided to do what is best for him, seeing in the Miami Heat the team that gave him the best chance to win a title with.
However, by joining the former championship squad, James must accept a lower salary that he could have gotten elsewhere, while Heat GM, Pat Riley must now fight to get role players signed for minimum contracts as his team's bench is very short now, and all the money were spent to sign the multi year contracts to the big three.
