While I feel the best case scenario for the Knicks would be signing Carmelo Anthony at the end of next season; the new CBA threatens the chances of this happening. Carmelo is making noise because he wants to be traded in time to lock in a lucrative extension before the new CBA takes effect. The Nuggets also don't want to be left holding the bag by not trading Anthony before the trade deadline. As far as I'm concerned a trade is imminent.

So what would be the best case scenario for both the Nuggets and Melo?

Considering The Bulls, Nets and others will join us in a bidding war I'm assuming we would have to five up some real value for Melo.

While I am a big Gallo fan I would be willing to make a tough decision and make a final offer of:

Eddy Curry
Gallo
Wilson Chandler

2 2nd Round Picks

While we do give up a lot, I feel that establishing a core of Felton, Melo and Stoudemire will enable us to battle with the East's Elite. Conversely the Nuggets get some value for their superstar with 2 great pieces in Gallo and Chandler and some draft picks to go along with tremendous cap flexibility.

Deng is two years into a six-year, $71 million contract, the initial source said.

Noah will make $3.1 million this season in the fourth year of his rookie deal. The center would become a restricted free agent next season unless the Bulls extend his contract.

Yahoo! Sports reported Wednesday that an NBA source with knowledge of Anthony's wishes told him Anthony still hopes to convince Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri to trade him, and he prefers a move to the New York Knicks or Bulls.

The Nuggets offered Anthony a three-year, $65 million extension through 2014, but if he rejects it, the team will have to consider trading the forward who has guided them to seven straight playoff berths.

"I think I'm going to convince him to be a Nugget," Ujiri said on Aug. 31. "No, I don't know, I can't make a judgment on that. Like I said, it's a process and until he tells me that ... we want him back, the city wants him back, ownership wants him back."

Anthony has never come out and said he wanted to be traded, however.

At his basketball camp this summer, Anthony dismissed all the speculation of his impending departure from Denver: "I've been hearing that for five years. I'm a Denver Nugget. I'm here, I'm with the Nuggets. I don't become a free agent until next year, if I decide not to take that extension."

Anthony, 26, has averaged 24.7 points per game in his career, including 28.2 last season.

Just gonna say, this is a pretty big deal, because this is never going away now. If they do this, it will drastically change the world. Especially on the heels of the Imam basically saying there will be repercussions if the Mosque is not built. They are going to proceed with that. Then what's next?

ny post article, didnt c it reposted here, this is a piece of it.

The coaching staff will tell you nobody has worked harder than Douglas this offseason. The second-year Florida State product has done two-a-days at their Westchester compound since the beginning of May -- save for a two-week break in July.

Douglas, the Knicks' most tenacious defender, said one of the reasons he has worked so hard is he wants to be a leader this season. There were none during last season's 29-53 campaign.

"I had an OK rookie year, but this year I want to be more vocal and be one of the leaders on the court," Douglas said. "At the same time, you can't be a leader if you don't hold up your end of the bargain. If people are slacking, I'll tell them. If I'm slacking, I want them to tell me."

Douglas is now working out with Danilo Gallinari, who spent almost all of the offseason in Italy, Wilson Chandler, Amar'e Stoudemire, Anthony Randolph and Rony Turiaf.

According to Douglas, newcomer Kelanna Azubuike is not yet working at Westchester and still is doing offcourt rehab after missing most of last season with a torn tendon in his left knee. It's looking more doubtful the shooting guard will be 100 percent when training camp opens on Sept. 25.

After Labor Day, Douglas said he expects to be joined by more teammates so they can begin scrimmaging.

"We're just building relationships now," Douglas said. "It's almost a totally new team. I've been working on the pick and roll with Amar'e. So there'll be a better bond when training camp starts."

The free-agent signing of Roger Mason did not upset Douglas, though Mason is very similar as a combo guard and could steal minutes. If anything, Mason's addition gives the Knicks more depth if they have to put Douglas in a package for Carmelo Anthony, Tony Parker or Chris Paul.

"I wasn't surprised," Douglas said. "I'm just getting ready get this whole summer with two a days, so I'm going to be ready."

Next summer, Anthony could opt out of his contract and become a free agent. Other Nuggets that will go on the market net summer include forward Kenyon Martin(notes) and guards J.R. So whether Anthony gets traded or not, changes are coming in Denver next summer.
New Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri still hasn't met Anthony in person since being hired Aug. 31, Spears reports.

It was game 7 of the Eastern Confrence finals against Miami. Mello was on the Knicks (I traded Chandler, Curry's Expiring, 2 second rounders and a First rounder to get him at the trade deadline). We were down by 3 with 14 seconds on the clock. Mello was being covered by Wade, Gallo by LeBron. Felton passes te ball to Mello, Mello Crosses over wade with 3 seconds on the clock, takes a fade away 3, the buzzer sounds and its good! The MSG crowd jumped up like it was the 4 point play, and Mello went crazy jumping around as we forced overtime. (i won the game in OT)
Timofey Mozgov: Scouting Report
Written by BigC

(Big C) Timofey Mozgov? Who? Say What? Many people have never heard of Timofey Mozgov until a few weeks ago. That includes me. So just like you I wanted to know more about the 7’1” center the Knicks signed a few weeks ago.

Too often you hear people talking about how good a player is, when in reality their opinions were based on what others have said. For me, I needed to make my own judgment about this Mozgov guy.

I decided to do my research. I watched as many full game videos of Mozgov in the Euro league as possible. Let me first say that there are many players listed at 7’1” but they truly aren’t. When you watch Timofey Mozgov towering over the other players on the court you can see he is a legit 7’1”.

Now we all know that finding good big bodies in the NBA is a tough task, especially if you are looking for a big man that can play ball. So when you hear about a big man who went un-drafted you have to raise an eyebrow. Most of the big men who pass through the league are either too slow or lack the fundamentals of the game to be successful.

Most of the NBA teams that have tall players do not give them much playing time, only if he is an elite center or the designated shot blocker on the team. While watching Mozgov’s game I immediately noticed how athletic and fast on his feet he was. Mozgov is a tall, big body in the middle, which is a plus.

For today’s NBA it is important that a big man is athletic and has the ability to run up and down the court and block shots. If a big man can not get up and down the court then he becomes a liability on the defensive end of the court as well as the offensive end of the court. Once opposing teams see a big man that cannot keep up with the pace, they normally adjust and go small to force the big man out of the game.

All that being said, Mozgov is not one of those lame duck players. He shows signs of being a decent NBA player. Not only is Mozgov big at 7’1”, but he is a big man that can get up and down the court. For many of the games that I watched, I saw him get up and down the court with guards, small forwards as well as beating his man down the court.

The fact that Mozgov can run makes him a perfect fit with the Knicks who want to control the fast break this season. Mike D’Antoni wants his team to run the ball up the court almost every chance the players get if it is available, especially with the Knicks new point guard Raymond Felton aka the “Reason” (as I like to call him).

With Mozgov’s quickness you better believe he will get some nice touches on the break. With Felton leading the break good things are going to happen if you run with him. It does not matter if Mozgov is the trailer or up head to catch the easy pass for the dunk or layup Felton will hook the big man up.

Mozgov is also very good at reading defensive schemes in order to move with a guard to flow into the pick and roll play. Amar’e and Raymond Felton’s favorite play is the pick and roll, and the same can be said for Timofey. Whichever way the pick and roll play starts, on the elbow or on the left wing, Timofey knows how to use it to his advantage.

Timofey is good at setting picks as well using the pick for the dunk, layup or oop, coming down the middle or the left side of the court. If the pick and roll is read by the defense, Mozgoz does not just stand in one place. He will find a way to be useful. If his offensive game is not there, he looks to crash the boards. He is a beast around the boards, from put back shots or going up strong for the bucket or making a trip to the line. Mozgov also does well taking his man of the dribble. My man does not back down from anyone.

At 7’1” he is good on the boards and can block shots. Mozgov is good at help defense coming from the weak side to get the block shot or block on the man he is guarding.

Although he is 7’1 I would like to see more of his post-up game. Right now his game is more based on his athletic ability. However, he does get beat many times by opponents that are quicker than him.

Even though his mid-range shot is not too bad he needs to work on it. A big man that can shoot from the outside and run will definitely get playing time. He also needs to do a better job holding on to the ball when he gets a rebound. So if Mozgov wants playing time he will have to step it up in the shooting area and defending against other teams pick and roll.

Overall, Mozgov looks like he can play. We just have to see how he does in an NBA setting. For now Mozgov’s ability to block shots and run the court should be able to get him 10-12 minutes on the floor. Which would be a good start within Mike D’Antoni's tight rotation. The good news is Mozgov looks like he can contribute by scoring a few points and blocking shots. But keep in mind Mozgov’s contract is not guaranteed past his first two years so if things don't go according to plan the Knicks will easily waive him or buy him out.

Timofey Mozgov, welcome to the Empire State.

Summary
The Knicks shot for the moon in free agency. They missed, but they did nab a star. The process of turning this perennial loser into an Eastern Conference contender is far from over, but in addition to finding a centerpiece in Stoudemire, the Knicks retained the flexibility (something they haven't had in ages) to add more pieces down the road.
With almost an entirely new roster and with only a couple of players who have won anything in the NBA, it will still be a challenge to develop a winning atmosphere in the locker room. Talent alone does not get you anything in this league. And it will be up to D'Antoni to get the Knicks to play hard, play together, and maybe play a little defense.
While they wait on another star, the Knicks must start building a foundation. The two-year waiting game is over and it's time to finally start moving forward.
Last summer Anthony and his wife LaLa, signed with Creative Arts Agency as a package deal. Since then, much has been made of Anthony’s desire to play in LA or the NY/NJ metropolitan area and how much LaLa’s professional career plans influences him.
The close proximity to major entertainment markets seem enticing for the couple, as Anthony’s business interests have expanded into film and music. But our sources say Anthony is not driven by the desire to be close to “Hollywood”, but rather to compete for an NBA championship right away.
According to our source, the Chicago Bulls are Anthony’s top choice and for obvious reasons…..
The Bulls have had an active summer, and the signing of Carlos Boozer, Ronnie Brewer and Kyle Korver makes them a top 4 team in the East. The addition of Anthony puts them into the discussion with the NBA’s elite along with the Lakers, Magic and Miami Heat.
Derrick Rose has shined all summer for Team USA, and is solidifying his place amongst the NBA’s elite point guards. Joakim Noah is one the league’s best young centers, and new coach Tom Thibodeau is a career NBA guy that was the architect behind the 2008 NBA Champion Boston Celtics vaunted defense.
The Bulls have some enticing pieces to offer the Nuggets, who are essentially “re-branding” themselves from top to bottom. Once known as the “Thuggets”, Denver’s combustible mix of Anthony, JR Smith and Kenyon Martin has been toxic at times, and it’s apparent that the trio has worn out it’s welcome in Denver.
By sending Deng and Gibson to the Nuggets, Denver would add one of the NBA’s best defensive small forwards, and a promising power forward that nearly averaged a double-double as a rookie. Denver should be about accumulating assets at this point, and young talent and draft-picks are a great foundation for their future.
Having advanced out the 1st round of the playoffs once in 7 years, the right moves could make the fire-sale a little easier to swallow for the Nugget faithful. After hiring Masai Ujiri to run the team, George Karl made some interesting comments about being “surprised” by the firing of VP of Player Operations Mark Warkentien.
With all the rumors swirling around that franchise, this is another indicator that everyone in that organization is not on the same page.
Chicago is a major market with an incredibly rich tradition, one that the Jordan Brand sponsored Anthony is fully aware of. The other teams in the discussion are the Nets and Clippers, two of the worst teams in the league last year.
The Nets reportedly aren’t willing to part with Brook Lopez, which is a necessary component for the Nuggets.
The Clippers have some assets to offer, but who really wants to play for the Clippers?
With the CBA expiring team owners are looking to drastically reduce player salaries in terms of dollars, years and guarantees. This sea of uncertainty has put pressure on players to re-up with their respective teams, backing them into a corner and forcing them to make the safe business decision.
Anthony would make $83.5 million over 4 years if he signed an extension with the Nuggets(if he opts in). That’s nearly 21 million dollars a year Carmelo is willing to walk away from at this point.
If Melo does leave Denver, it would have to be through an extend and trade. No team is going to gamble on trading for him if he’s just going to leave. This narrows the field of suitors to teams that Carmelo wants to play for.
‘Melo has the leverage and if our source is correct, wants to be a Chicago Bull."

If Melo becomes a Bull then we have no shot to beat the Heat and Chicago. He is sponsored by a Jordan Brand, Chi town is good for advertising, and he would be on a contending team with Rose, Boozer, and Noah...and the trade package is something Denver would accept.
