2010 Plan B

TR1LL10N

Hannibal Lecter
The 2010 Plan B if we don't get Lebron should be waiting till 2011 when Jefferies and Curry are off of the books. If we don't make major moves this off-season we should stay the course, resign Lee to a reasonable contract, throw next year to get a high draft pick and sign 2-3 free agents in 2011.

Rome wasn't built in a day. The Knicks problems are close to a decade old. I think you can trace the problems back to the Ewing/Rice trade, since then we took on one overpaid "almost all-star" player after another. If it takes an additional year to put us in a really strong position to be contenders I am for it. That means:

Don't over pay Lee
Don't overpay a non-superstar
Keep your draft picks
Continue to develop our youth
Gamble on some low risk-high reward characters like Bender
Look to fill holes with cheap savvy trades and pick ups

This will be difficult for many fans to accept. There were many on here calling for D'Antoni and Donnie to be fired 6 games into this season. I can't imagine how bad it will get next year when we don't have any max free agent signed and we still suck.

There are a couple of problems with the 2011 plan:

1.) You are assuming Lee will resign with the Knicks. If we don't sign anybody this offseason, will Lee want to suffer another year in New York? The OKC Thunder are very high on him and would probably be willing to give Lee $11 mil. Plus they are a young and up and comming team. Lee would fit very well with them.

2.) Who is available in 2011? Is there anybody worth dumping 3 years for? Carmelo Anthony is the only unrestricted free agent in 2011 worth anything. And that is a player option. There are no guarantees that he will be available.

I don't see any player worth it in 2011. Lebron is not coming to the Knicks. I really hope we don't give Amare the max because we couldn't get anybody else.

Let's rebuild now. We have many very valuable expiring contracts.

I would take Melo, M. Gasol or Durant off the top of my head. Melo and or Durant is worth waiting for especially when you consider we own our draft pick in 2011. Having more cap space then you know what to do with is a problem I look forward to the Knicks having.

I agree, Lee could be gone but that means even more cap space to work with.

It seems like the plan has been to throw away the season and get a draft pick the following year for the past 8 years. What did we get with that plan other than Michael Sweatney? lol

I just hope we get LeBron, because it's too much to ask fans to sit around and wait for 2 more seasons of throwing it away.

I am too lazy to pour over that list but I am pretty sure R. Fernandez is a FA in 2011 too.

I wouldn't mind picking up M. Gasol, Melo and Rudy Fernandez plus whoever we draft. (assuming lotto pick)

C- Gasol
PF- Gallo
SF- Melo
SG- Fernandez
PG- (draft/trade/signing)

Not a bad core!

Actually, that list doesn't even have Melo as a free agent (I think because it is a player early termination option).

Marc Gasol is a restricted free agent. Difficult to do unless you overpay. Memphis can match any offer.

Fernandez is not listed as a free agent.

I don't know. Seems like a big gamble to take for sacrificing 3 years.

It's only a gamble if we pass up on opportunities once Lebron/Wade are out of the equation. The gamble was for those two players and maybe Bosh...after that it's what can we do to improve with whats available. Rudy Gay or Joe Johnson along with Bosh would be a nice consolation prize in 2010. I am starting to warm up to Bosh.

i think durant has a team option in '12 and he's definitely going to get a ton of money from okc.melo, i don't know.i want him on this team, but I'm not really comfortable waiting till then.

the best thing for this team to do is to try and get that pick back from the jazz, and tank the season for wall, giving up whatever they have to give up, even if its giving up a 2 or 3 of gallo, lee, hill, douglas, and wil(my preference would be lee and chandler) and taking back a contract like okur's.that's probably the only way the knicks will sniff a superstar for the foreseeable future.the fortunes of lowly nba franchises are wage in a lottery, and sometimes you got to gamble to get a great player, so even though that seems like a steep price for most, we have to be realistic, duhon blows, but do you really believe that its only his fault? this team is just not properly constructed.

its pretty much james or bust and i don't see james leaving cleveland.

wade won't be worth the max.the guy will wear out half way through that shit.

joe johnson will be 30 i think,

lee at his price > bosh amar'e at max.

so donnie has his work cut out for him.

if we could land batum and fernandez for hill, douglas and chandler, that would satisfy me.all we'd need is a center and a pg.maybe mcgee for lee.maybe we could land chris paul with expiring contracts and a first round pick or two( i know, but chris has a different mindset to marbs)

pg-paul
sg-fernandez
sf-batum
pf-gallinari
c-mcgee

it wouldn't be as exciting as landing james, but it might actually have more substance.

I think Donnie would give his right testicle to get C. Paul. Unless Paul demands a trade he isn't going anywhere unless you give value back. (Lebron/Wade Kobe) Even then i don't think N.O. trades their franchise player unless it's for Lebron.

you're right but you can't under estimate the power of a cheapskate owner.

We can't afford Johnson and Bosh, or Rudy Gay and Bosh, or Johnson and Gay. Pick one. That's it.

Then ask, would any of those players sign to a roster of Jeffries, Curry, Douglas, Hill, Chandler and Gallo?

This is assuming you trade Jefferies.

Re-blowing It Up.

i don't want to hijack your thread trill but i got a question for everyone,

what could the knicks legitimately get for the players that have value?

lee:

harrington:

gallinari:

nate:

chandler:

hill:

what do you think we could get in return for these guys?at this point, i think its best for the knicks to simply restart from scratch next year.this team has a shaky foundation with certain players not fitting in, and certain players having a different mindset to others.

I dunno dude? Harrington's stock has dropped of late.

Lee's playing so well you've gotta wonder what we can get for him. Or if he's even worth trading. Someone said McGee of the Wizards. I want McGee but that's a crap trade. Would need extra pieces anyhoo.

Might as well leave Gallo out of it.

Chandler. Again, Caron Butler. Rites to Rubio. Anything really.. But whether or not he's making a lot of noise around other teams with an interest at the 2-3-4??????? Beats me.

Nate... **** knows. He's shown what he's got, he's also shown what he lacks. He'll generate about the same interest as the recent off-season. **** all most likely.

Hill's a keeper I think. He can be very good if the right circumstances prevail.

Is Eddy Curry's contract really going to be the deciding factor between the Knicks being a contending team in a couple of years or not?

i don't think anyway is safe.not even gallo.any deal that gives us a shot at getting better is worth making imo.
