Will We Add A Post Offence Now That We Have Melo + Billups - League's Best Post PG?

It can't be overlooked.

Can't be understated.

There's a new dimension to our offence.

Will D'Antoni be forced to slow things down out of, not only necessity, but opportunity?

The mind boggles at the post sets we could run with a short 5 of:

Billups
Landroid
That Melo Fellow
Williams
STAT

Even a simple hi-lo post screen with Billups at the top of the arc and Melo on the 45 is frightening.

The three man game we could run in a 'mock triangle offence'...........

Holy Hymen!

Probably NOT by design. When a play breaks down, then maybe we score off the block, but getting the ball down low, then backing your man down is contrary to SSOL.

Altough MDA did slow things down and make an effort to facilitate when he said he didn't have the pieces, maybe he still will alter his approach.

Well, we all saw the Bucks, a well renowned defensive team holding their opponents to 93 PPG, collectively shit their undies tonight when Melo had the ball on the high block and baseline from 15 odd feet.

The spacing created lanes for STAT on the high post almost every time.

For anyone who can watch a replay, there were 2 instances during the second half when this was most evident:

1- The find from Melo to a cutting STAT who came from the high post, Melo passed from between the base and 45 inside the arc for a left handed lay in.

2- A post catch to face up by Melo in virtually the same spot, in which he drove and passed to STAT who was fouled on a failed dunk attempt.

On a 3rd instance, Melo cut straight to the hoop and smashed one uncontested. That was a 15 foot face up on the baseline.

Anybody recall these?

A very similar set to the hi-lo post play below, but the 3 replaces the 5, and doesn't play as deep.

well i mean andre miller is the best post pg........................
but billups is very good on the post for a pg and yes it is redundant for the SSOL system to have guys posting but billups in the post means players can cut and he will get it to them which is undoubtedly a good thing

We shall see. D'Antoni is more than likely a leopard that will not change his spots.

Yes there was a more half court oriented offense yesterday and 3s attempted were down and FTs were up but it was probably more the new guys not knowing the plays esp. Chauncey than anything else.

If MD doesn't adjust, as he's proven basically incapable of, it'll cost this team.

Melo loves the baseline, STAT loves the high post and Chauncey and Fields love the arc. Less three point opportunities as our best scorers play inside. A bad thing? Nope.

Melo plays decoy well for STAT, that shone in the Bucks game. No doubt there'll be more to come in which one can entice the defence for the other.

Regardless, we have an NBA best post threat at SF that mismatches most opponents with strength and an arsenal of moves. If we don't play our advantage, that's pathetic.

Has MOA every ran a slow pace offense or adjusted his style? The answer is NO and he never will. Rather than play to the strength of his players he makes the players play to his strengths as a coach. It will never happen til he's shipped outta NY. MOA NEEDS TO BE FIRED!
