Knicks after Arroyo/Dooling

metrocard

Legend
Both are expiring contracts; Arroyo can give you a lot of passing and experience, Dooling can give you a lot of defense and scoring.

ISIAH LOOKING TO MAKE 'POINT'
By MARC BERMAN

February 21, 2008 -- PHILADELPHIA - Isiah Thomas' top priority entering today's 3 p.m. trade deadline was adding a playmaking point-guard to their point-guard-depleted roster. That need was underscored last night as the Knicks New York Knicks committed 25 turnovers in a 124-84 blowout loss to the Sixers.

A league source told The Post the Knicks and Orlando discussed trades in recent days involving their two backup point guards, Carlos Arroyo and Keyon Dooling, but were in a stalemate. Arroyo is a prototype European passing point guard, a 28-year-old from Puerto Rico who has been in and out of the Magic's rotation.

Arroyo and Dooling each make roughly $4 million and own expiring contracts. But the Knicks didn't want to part with young players such as rookie Wilson Chandler Wilson Chandler , and neither team wanted to add payroll.

Orlando, with its glut of point guards, will not have the money to re-sign both as free agents following starter Jameer Nelson's contract extension.

With Stephon Marbury Stephon Marbury potentially done as a Knick, Thomas realizes a playmaker is needed, and he missed out on Michael Bibby.

"They feel they have a hole at the point guard," one league general manager said.

Seattle point guard Luke Ridnour also is available. Ron Artest and Vince Carter are longtime swingman targets.

I would do

Successful Trade Scenario
Congratulations on a successful trade.

Due to New York and Orlando being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New York and Orlando had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

New York Knicks trade
Jamal Crawford
Ared Efferies

Orlando Magic trade
Carlos Arroyo
Keyon Dooling
Pat Garrity

Why for Orlando?: Crawford can play back up PG/SG for Orlando and gives them another scoring threat from the perimeter since Nelson is inconsistent. Ared can give him them defense and more size and versatility.

Why for New York?: Knicks drop their ugliest contracts in Crawford and Ared. We get 3 expiring contracts and two serviceable players. The only ugly contracts we'll have left is Randolph, James, Curry, and Q-Rich. 4 is better than 6, right?

Orlando Magic
PG - Nelson/Crawford
SG - Evans/Bogans
SF - Turkoglu/Cook
F - Lewis/Augustine
C - Howard/Foyle

We could probably optimize the team and do this deal also

New York Knicks trade
Eddy Curry

Miami Heat trade
Ricky Davis
Smush Parker

Why?

Miami needs a center to play next to Haslem
New York needs to get rid of Curry and get an expiring; Davis is a serviceable SG also.

Miami Heat

PG - Williams/Quinn
SG - Wade/Cook
SF - Marion/Wright
PF - Haslem/Alexander
C - Curry/Blount

Last trade I would do before the dead line

Chicago Bullshit trades

Wallace(2 years left
Smith(expiring)

New York Knicks trade
Randolph
Richardson
Chandler

Why for Chicago? They need scoring in the post badly, They already have defensive bigs in Noah and Thomas, Wallace is useless there. They get a young piece in Chandler and guard/foward depth with Richardson.

Why for New York?
Wallace is still an excellent defender and we desperately need a shot blocker. Smith is an expiring and a servicable player.

Chicago Bullshit

PG - Hinrich/Duhon
SG - Gordon/Richardson
SF - Deng/Nicioni
PF - Randolph/Thomas
C - Noah/Gray

the NEW New York Knicks
PG - Arroyo/Robinson
SG - Davis/Dooling/Parker
SF - Balkman/Garrity
PF - Lee/Smith
C - Wallace/Morris

We'll run the offense through Lee and Davis...both capable of 20 ppg a night, we'll play rugged defense every night and have a more cap room within the future.

Jameer Nelson is inconsistent, but I'm with you. Jamal Crawford is one of the most inconsistent guards in the NBA.His 40% fg% tells the story. At least Nelson's a good passer, so he can get others involved when he has a bad shooting night.

yep... u can't be hitting 10/14 every nite, but on your off-nites, u gotta do the little things, cause a turnover, rebound, play a little "D"...

can't blame just jamal... all the knicks suck.. i'd get rid of the whole roster... including lee and the other youngings...start with a clean slate...

I personally believe that getting Carlos Arroyo would be worth giving up a young talent. I'd part with Wilson Chandler, Randolph morris, or Mardy Collins and throw in Fred Jones expiring contract. Arroyo could be the starting point guard for years to come and they could sign him next year for a reasonable salary. The fact that he is only 28 is an important factor why Isiah should think about making this trade.

There isn't a better pure passing point guard in this years draft so I see Isiah sitting on the bench along with all the other garbage he's collected along the way (except maby Lee,Balkman,Robinson...Chandler,Morris???) while letting yet another opertunity to better this team slip through our hands and once again deal another crushing blow to us the loyal Knick fans and the rest of the Knick's orginization. Love ya Zeke...JACKASS!!!

Rookie
crawford isnt a pg, so the arroyo/crawford deal makes no sense for orlando. not to mention jefferies contract is disgusting, and as much as the magic might need some D, he's not worth it. and u want a backup pg to start for us? wtf?

i like the heat deal, but we dont need more guys who cant play D. davis is a good scorer, but id rather let wilson chandler develop with the core group of young talent we have

the chicago trade makes sense with the heat trade, but wallace has a bad contract and randolph is not a center. the bulls would be going even more in the direction of teams like golden state, and that isnt really what they want

and as for that final starting 5, its ridiculous, inexperienced pgs, no inside scoring, best offensive option is ricky davis? at least theres some defense 3-5 but the 3 would probably end up defending the 2 which create a shit load of matchup problems

did u even think about this or did u just make it up as u went along

I'm all for it. anything that puts us in a position to have basically zero salary when Lebron and co will be free agents.
