The Summer of DeAndre Jordan!!!

New New York

Quiet Storm
On draft Night 2008 I was highly livid at us not making a move to swoop him when I saw him drop into the 2nd round!

But in all actuallity he would probably be a Nugget if The Knicks had drafted him.

So I see him as the best of the Centers we realistically have a shot at this off season.

Now I think regardless if their is a MLE or not after the new CBA we should be able to go after him.

I am no cap specialist, but I assume if The League goes to a "hard cap" then they will increase the amount teams can spend. I imagine last year's 58 million be risen somewhere around 65 million or so if there is a hard cap implemented, which in either case would give The Knicks the ability to 6 million or so to offer this kid.

A call from Melo and Amare this summer would certainley gas this kid a bit!

Billups

Melo
Amare

a top 3 seed in the newly re-vamped East!

Problem is we do have some competitors

1.Heat-while they probably have a more urgent need at The PG spot to fill, DeAndre would be a very nice fit to what they have going on down there, plus Bibby will probably sign for the veterns min. And if a call from Stat and Melo would have him thinking NY a call from D Wade and Lebron will equally gas this kid!

2.Clippers-why not remain home and be apart of a very very good front court for years to come?! Problem here is Kaman is still on The bench and they are not sitting a 12 milliion dollar player nor is anyone going to trade for a 12 million dollar player who hasnt played more than 60 games in a minute so DeAndre could look at being a starter next year as an incentive as opposed to waiting for Kaman to fall off the books.

Others Centers to consider
Kendrick Perkins-not sure what the market is going to be for him coming off injuries, but healthy he is a better option than Jordan....just not sure how little money he plays for next year or how much is too much to pay for a player who has been hurt as much as he has been the past two seasons.

Joel Pryzbilla-a nice filler (a band aid if you will), could get him for a cheap one year deal not at all a long term solution.

Samuel D.-fills a need, but not a good fit for us, acutually he is better suited for what they are doing in Miami truthfully.

Regardless of the cap i hope we make a play for him, cause he would be perfect. What i fear is that management looks at this summer as another 'looking towards the future' summers and we sign nothing but one-year deals on the hope that we can get chris paul or deron or whatever other max guy.

We have two superstars in their prime and our time to win is now. Maybe i'm in the minority but I would rather have a team than a third star and a bunch of scrubs. Who knows what could happen to amare in two years. Why should we sacrifice two seasons where we could be contenders for a future that might not happen?

On the same note I really hope that we cheer for our team and our players namely chauncey, when chris paul comes to town on wednesday. We could really screw this up by making him feel like a short term mercenary. IMO he won us both the Bucks and the Heat games, and from the looks of it he's playing with something to prove. Lets not make him feel like he'd be better off being the missing piece in Miami then here.

honestly a hard cap would probably be 70 mil but if they don't do that. We would have to follow the arenas rule that says all a team besides their drafting team can offer a 2nd round pick player after their first contract ends is the MLE. The clippers opened up that money in the Barron trade so we would have to convince him to come based on other factors like our players and playing in NY.

I'm truly hoping the Knicks pursue Tyson Chandler, because I think he has all the intangibles we would need at the 5 spot.

Please let us grab him. I'm hoping we can get him. Stupid CBA is making this summer a big ?. Nobody can plan for anything... smh.

Well the Thunder extended Perkins today so he is off the market.

Whether its Jordan or Chandler we need a true Center. Its torture watching teams just abuse us down low while we have guys like Shawne Williams and Jeffries playing the 5.

It just doesnt make sense. You would think regardless of what system you run you would want some size and strength on the roster/rotation. If D'Antoni refuses to do so then we have no choice but to get rid off him, problem is will Dolan see this and make a move? I hope so!

Perkins is gone, then.

DeAndre Jordan would be awesome, as would Samuel Dalembert and Tyson Chandler.

Basically anybody who can rebound and play D

The HEAT are basically capped out already. Unless the make a trade... they have almost 66 million committed. If they sign Bibby... there goes whatever pittance they had left.

Knicks are at about 45 million.

I would venture to guess, if MIA-NY battle for a particular free agent, Knicks have the definite edge.

Its pretty much impossible to get Tyson Chandler,he's going to demand at least 13 mil and we all know Mark Cuban would offer him that much money.

I think our best chance is Dalembert or Przybilla.Their both solid centers but i think if we get Dalembert that would be a HUGE upgrade and we'd be instant Championship contenders. The only problem is how much money is Dalembert going to want, but his value dropped after this season so maybe we might have a chance?

Someone mentioned that a "hard cap" would allow for a 70 million dollar pay roll, in that case a player like Marc Gasol would certainley be obtainable because the Knicks would have around 10 million to offer

Heck...depending on how The Mavs do in the playoffs Ty. Chandler could be had for that much.

Because some one said it best when they said Cuban will likely over pay him to keep him in Dallas, but say they get bounced 1st or swept in the 2nd Chanlder could pass on the 12 million or so Dallas would offer him to return East, play on a larger market, likely be an All Star and for sure be on a 55-60 win team.

I'd love DeAndre Joran. Would become the perfect Center for the Knicks. I'd also love Marc Gasol, but he's only a pipe dream because he's a restricted free agent. As you all have stated, Dalembert would also make a great 3rd option. He's getting up there in age so I pray we land either Gasol or Jordan.

So was Shaq & Ben Wallace; Still doesn't change the fact that DeAndre Jordan would become an extremely young, dream come true type of true Center for the Knicks for many of years to come. We need a true center to get to the next level first & foremost.

you guys are forgetting that jordan is the worst ft shooter in the history of the nba.

True. But a beggar can't be too much of a chooser. Plus, he's young enough to keep improving there.

STAT helps, too. Deandre wouldn't alway have to be there in big situational spots.

It will never happen unless there's a favorable hard cap or some very creative, unforeseen cap maneuvering, but my dream trio of offseason players has been:

AK47
Deandre
Glen Davis

If we can get 2 out of these three we are mint beyond belief, and I'll erect a Donnie Walsh statue to be the centerpiece of my apartment.

AK47 is flying way too under the radar so far. His defense, and all around game, would honestly let STAT man the 5 when need be, and our defense would stay strong without hitch.

Not to mention an able, at last, backup for STAT to keep him optimally rested during games.

AK, sandwiched between STAT and Melo, could well be a revolution, and give us a finishing, or non-TrueCenter rotation:

AK47

Give the Knicks Glen 'Big baby' Davis & DeAndre Jordan & we're fighting with the Heat & Bulls for the 1st & 2nd seed out of the East. Celtics wouldn't be the same without Perkins & then Davis. I'd use Davis off the bench as our 6th man too.

All that is just a pipe dream though. Give me Jordan, Gasol or Dalembert & I'm on cloud 9 heading into 2011-2012.

Definitely. Ive been a Get Big Baby fan from the moment potential FA threads started up.

Jordan is a wildcard. Clips seemed to be primed to do what it takes to keep...yet Kaman not traded; and he's been getting the most minutes versus Jordan, and playing pretty well while doing so.

Who do we even trade to these fools to even be able to spend the $ on him...

A legit big and power moving the draft to secure Jimmers (or Kemba) and we are mint.
