Kidd Staying Put: An informed source has told HOOPSWORLD that Jason Kidd intends to return to the Dallas Mavericks for a three-year, $24 million contract.
Kidd has indicated to the Mavericks and New York Knicks that he'll mull over their respective offers over the weekend. The Knicks are said to be offering Jason a guaranteed three years at the Mid-Level Exception (MLE) which works out to be approximately $18.1 million.
Barring a surprising change of events, Kidd is expected to notify the Dallas on Monday that he'll take their offer which would start at approximately $7.25 million for the upcoming season.

-I did not know to much about Morris Almond before we signed him. After reading some scouting reports on him, and seeing some highlights, the kid can flat out play. Talk about a nice 2 gaurd to have on our team. Now I dont expect him to start or produce like Hughes does. But the potential is there, walsh and dantoni can do a lot with this and make this a great investment. 6'6 with a 7'0 wingspan, good enough atheltic ability, great shooter to be on the wing in dantonis system. Limit his turnovers and we may have a great SG of the future.

-Jaon Kidd...I would never say no to having Kidd as our PG. If they can get him at a decent price that wont kill us for next years FA than great. I still would rather have Ramon Sessions as our PG, he may cost more than Kidd because more team are interested in him. But our PG situation should be adressed this year. Steve Nah would be good but him and Kidd are both on there way out. Sessions is an up and coming star.

-Eddy Curry and Jared Jeffries. PLEASE LEAVE.

-Jordan Hill. Hey I think this kid can be a great player. How is he not like Amare Stoudimire when he was drafted, Amare out of HS was so raw, a lot of atheltic ability, ok jump shot. Now look at him. Jordan Hill is very athletic but has a mid range game unlike Amare did in year 1. So lets see if he can end up a stud.

-Tony Douglas-Ben gordon is 6'3 and I think he is doing fine. Tony Douglas will be a good backup. The ACC defender of the year, ask Levance Fields on Pitt what Douglas is like when he held him to 2 points. I think he is our Eddie House, small 2 gaurd who can shoot lights out and play great defense.

-Nate and Dlee-Looks like they may be here, more so Lee. Nate we can do a S n T most likely.

-Danilo Gallinari-Excited to see what he could do, reminds me exactly of Hedou Turkaglou, I think Danilio will make himself comfortable on the wing with his great shot, give him some explosion and injury free and he will be a good player.

-Darko-It is never bad to have a 7'0 tall backup center. Lets see what he can do in the system. Low risk high reward gamble.

My ideal roster for 2009..
PG: RAMON SESSIONS/Chris Duhon
SG:Larry Hughes/Nate/ Tony Douglas/Morris Almond
SF:Danilo Galinari/Wilson Chandelar.
PF: David Lee/Al Harrington
C:Jordan Hill/Darko

My Ideal roster for 2010

PG: Ramon Sessions
SG:Morris Almond/Tony Douglas
SF: Lebron James/ Danilo Galinari
PF:David Lee
C: Jordan Hill

The reason I have No bosh in 2010, is I would ratrher have Lee and Sessions or Lee and Kidd who would cost the same as Bosh would.

Just some thoughts for everyone...

Gortat will sign with Dallas it looks like, meaning Houston still needs a center.

Can we get a deal done here?

Here is the funny thing about Houston,Dallas, and The Knicks

The Knicks covet Gortat and wanted to make him an offer, and they also want to trade Curry away. We are also currently causing Mark Cuban to lose sleep over losing his starting PG. Wanted T-Mac from Houston

Houston: Needs a center and Gortat was their first choice, with a rumor (still have not heard any Houston exec confirm) that they were somewhat considering Curry. Another rumor had them considering trading T-Mac to us

Dallas: Wants Gortat, wants to trade Dampier and wants to retain Kidd

I say lets get all three teams on the horn to see how we can help each other out!

We help out Houston by freeing up Gortat and offer Dallas Curry and Nate for Dampiers expiring contract and we take our offer to Kidd off the table.

For our favor to Houston they agree to the T-Mac swap for Hughes and Mobley

Transaction Breakdown:

NY: Gets Curry's contract off the Books (buys out Dampier before he even arrives at the airport), gets T-Mac

Houston: Gortat,Hughes and some financial relief

Dallas: Keeps Kidd, moves their worst FA signing to date, and adds Nate....ok so now their stuck with Curry, but he did play his best ball of the season in Dallas last year!

Ok, deals like this never get done, just having a little fun with the possibilities

Now that Hedo Turkoglu seems to be rather close to signing with Portland, and that would give Portland a bit of a logjam at the 2 and 3, and there're rumors about Rudy Fernandez being rather upset with the fact that he's going to lose playing time if Hedo signs with the Jail Blazers...

What do we all say about the possibility of bringing Rudy Fernandez to the Knicks? We need a backcourt, and Fernandez is a shooting guard who is a good perimeter shooter. He also plays defense (mind you he's not a lockdown defender but he's certainly better than, say, Nate Robinson).

IMO bringing Fernandez to the Knicks would be a good way to not only possibly lure Ricky Rubio here (the two were teammates at DKV Joventut for three years), but also give us a solid guy in the back court. We're stacked witih forwards, we could use a shooting guard and we could use better defense and Fernandez brings that.

The question is what would we have to give up to get him? He's got a rookie contract, so he's not going to cost a buttload of money, but odds are Portland wouldn't just deal him away for some silly reason. Nate Robinson, I'm guessing...?

Now if Mr tight lipped Walsh said "leeway that I dont want to talk about " something must be up!!!

We offered Kidd 3 years which i see is official!! Thats not the plan right?
We must protect cap for next year no? Kidd @ 37 through 40 helps that plan?
I mean he makes us better and for sure help Duhon from getting drained like last year but he will be on the books for 5 os 6 million in the year of Lebron.

Now I understand that Bron Bron is tight with Kidd from the Olympics but Bron is tight with a lot of NBA studs!! Is Kidd more important then cap space is what i really wonder......... Hmmmmmmmmm

Something is up!!!

But what? Is Curry really going to Houston for T-Mac?

Is Jeffries heading out? Did we find homes for both?

I hear there is a lot of teams trying to survive financially that would love to get Mobleys contract!

Is Rubio still on our Radar and would we somehow include a third team to help compensate Walsh's buddy Kahn for drafting the next best Point Guard for us!! He has said he is staying in Spain but once we get his rights he will quickly change his mind!!

I am convinced something is already decided on we are just waiting till the 8th to announce. Knowing NY it will get out before that!! ......

If we can really rid ourselves of both Curry and Jeffries for contracts that expire package Mobleys contract and a Hughes or Chandler or even Harrigton for Rubio's rights it would a perfect summer for the Knicks!!

Only way I see Kidd making sense is for both Curry and Jeffries gone!!!

He makes it clear that he is just giving his opinion, but, he says he thinks Kidd we be a Knick!

I honestly do not like this at all! Look if we are going to add players who's contract spill into 2010 then why Kidd and not trade some of our expiring contracts, for good players with long term deals?

Make no mistake about it Kidd is one of the top 10 PG's of All Time, if not top 5. But he is 36 and is starting to show it. Now Kidd in this offense should get us in the Playoffs in the East, but then what? If we don't move Curry or Jefferies then Jason Kidd is about as good a player as we will add in the next two years.

This is like Farve coming to The Jets, in theory a good idea, but not in practical terms.

Again this is just RJ's opinion, but I am truly mad that Walsh is really considering this with Curry and Jefferies on the books still.

Oh Yeah, Ron Artest is a Laker now! Looks like Trevor or Lamar will be shopping for a new home soon!

In nearly every thread I read on here someone is running thier mouth off about 2010 and this vision of Lebron James/Chris Bosh signing for the Knicks and automatically we become the beasts of the East, championships handed to us because we will just be too good, all the other teams will just bail out cause we have Lebron etc etc. Why do we have to skip over an entire year? Why not concentrate on now rather than 2010? Why can't you just support your team? I refuse to look toward 2010, it defeats the whole purpose of being a "fan". I believe the Knicks can win the NBA championship in 2009. If I didn't believe that then I may as well not call myself a Knick fan. Who's to say that under the right leadership we can't go the distance? I'm a realist though, the chances of us actually winning the whole thing is probably like an 8% chance. However I don't want to hang my coat on Lebron James joining the Knicks. Would I like it to happen? yes. Will it happen, I have no f**king idea. Go Knicks 2009.

Some things to take into consideration:

- What's the chances Lebron will sign for the Knicks?
- What's the chances we have a good team by the time he supposedly sign
- What happens if he signs an extension with Cleveland halfway through the season, then what the f**k happens to "2010" and blowing a whole 2009 season trying to get in position
- What's the chances if he does sign we can sign any other good free agent
- If he does sign how does that guarantee us championships, Cleveland didnt go to the finals, the Lakers and the Magic did

F**k 2010, I'm not going to dream. 2009 is the only year I'm thinking of. Agree? Disagree?

I think it is crucial for the Knicks to move either Jefferies or Curry to free up room for 2010. I don't see why moving a 26 year old with Curry's size is going to be so difficult even knowing his history. Truth be told he only has 2 years left at 10mil a year. That is not very expensive and I think Walsh will be able to find someone who is willing to gamble on Curry.

I think he has to do it before Curry ever has an oportunity to play for the Knicks again. My reasoning is that I don't think Curry is going to actually get in game shape and be effective. If he fails which I believe he will then his trade value is ZERO. Right now he has POTENTIAL and is a bit of a mystery so hopefully some team lacking in size or depth might be willing to roll the dice with the big man and take his 2 year contract on.

It is unknown whether we've seen the last of Darius Miles, who recently made headlines for all the wrong reasons again -- getting arrested on a possession of marijuana charge while rollin' in a '96 Impala not far from the East St. Louis neighborhood where he grew up.
If Miles is convicted, he will undoubtedly face another suspension should he resume his NBA career, following his 10-game suspension of last season.
If he chooses to retire -- though his agent said recently that Miles plans to keep playing -- he will roll into retirement with plenty of another kind of green substance: money.
Miles will make $9 million next season in the final year of the $48 million contract he signed with Portland as a free agent in 2004. That $9 million will count against the Trail Blazers' cap for complex reasons that have been well documented, hampering the Portland Trail Blazers' efforts to be the major players in this summer's free-agent market.
Take away that $9 million, and Portland would have between $17 million and $20 million of cap room to work with -- an amount similar to what Detroit should have available under the new salary cap when the free-agent-signing moratorium ends July 8.
Instead, the Blazers are among a group of teams with a modest amount of cap space, including Oklahoma City, Memphis, Sacramento and potentially Toronto and Atlanta. And if the Blazers want to make a play for one of the major unrestricted free agents on the market -- a group that includes Lamar Odom, Hedo Turkoglu, Trevor Ariza, Ron Artest, Ben Gordon and possibly Carlos Boozer -- they probably will have to offer all their available cap space to just one player.
Compared to the cap-killing contracts that were on the Blazers' books last season (Steve Francis for $14.4 million, Raef LaFrentz for $12.7), Miles' number is somewhat tame. But given the way it will hinder Portland's flexibility, it is more than enough to land Miles in the No. 1 spot on our list of the Summer of 2009's Top 15 Dead Money Players and Cap-Killing Contracts.

1. Darius Miles ($9 million against Portland's cap)
As noted above, Miles was pulled over in mid-May in the St. Louis suburb of Fairview Heights, Ill., for failing to use a turn signal. Police ticketed him for driving with a suspended license, and a search of the car after it was towed allegedly uncovered a misdemeanor amount of marijuana in a bag. The Memphis Grizzlies already have stated they have no intention of re-signing the 27-year-old, who had to serve a 10-game drug suspension before being allowed to play last season, and it already was clear Memphis' main motive in signing him was to affect the Blazers' cap flexibility -- in part to keep them from being the type of under-the-cap trade facilitator the Grizzlies and Clippers were last season.
2. Jamaal Tinsley ($7.2 million against Indiana's cap)
An arbitration hearing is scheduled for July 27 in New York to hear Tinsley's case, which could be a precedent setter. Tinsley was banned from the Pacers for "team character" reasons last summer, and he initially stayed away and didn't make much noise because Indiana promised to trade him. But when the deadline came and went in February without Pacers president Larry Bird finding a taker, and when Tinsley received no counter to his buyout proposal, he proceeded with a grievance in which he will argue before arbitrator Calvin Sharpe that Indiana has no right to keep him out of uniform against his wishes. Making it even more difficult for Bird to find a taker in a trade, Tinsley's contract runs for two more seasons. He will make $7.5 million in 2010-11.

3. Marko Jaric ($7.1 million against Memphis' cap)
Four years after the fact, it continues to boggle the mind that Minnesota's Kevin McHale included a future No. 1 draft pick when he obtained Jaric from the Clippers in a sign-and-trade for Sam Cassell. The Wolves still owe that pick to Los Angeles, and it has lottery protection through the 10th pick that comes off for the 2012 draft. Our crystal ball also tells us Jaric will have a prominent spot on this list a year from now, when he'll be owed $7.625 million. The newly acquired Quentin Richardson and his $8.7 million salary come off the books next summer.
4. Mark Blount ($7.97 million against Miami's cap)
Back when Pat Riley thought Ricky Davis would help the Miami Heat get back into title contention, he agreed to surrender a first-round pick (the one the Wolves used on Ty Lawson last week) and take on Blount's monster contract in order to get the deal done. The Heat, despite Blount's ballast, still would have been major players in free agency this summer had they not dealt Shawn Marion to Toronto for Jermaine O'Neal, who is on the books for the upcoming season at a whopping $23.016 million.

5. Erick Dampier ($12.1 million against Dallas' cap)
During a casual conversation with reporters during Team USA's camp in Las Vegas in the summer of 2007, the discussion was about the new NBA trend toward fiscal responsibility. "Damp ruined it for everybody, eh?" said Kobe Bryant, who can opt out of his own deal this summer or next summer but who said during the recent NBA Finals that he could not envision playing for a team other than the Los Angeles Lakers. Dampier also is owed $13.08 million for 2010-11, but that is a team option -- and we'll go out on a limb here and predict Mark Cuban will not exercise it.
6. Andrei Kirilenko ($16.4 million against Utah's cap)
Yep, the Jazz sure were throwing mad money around a few years ago, back in the days when "AK-47" was synonymous with the 5-by-5. The Russian forward is on the books for another $17.8 for the 2010-11 season, and -- just an educated guess here -- probably the only hope the Jazz have of shedding this contract is by tossing in the Knicks' unprotected No. 1 pick in 2010 that Isiah Thomas surrendered for Stephon Marbury and Utah subsequently acquired in the Suns' 2004 salary dump that enabled the signing of Steve Nash.

7. Eddy Curry and Jared Jeffries ($10.5 million and $6.47 million, respectively, against New York's cap)
The real problem here is that both are on the books for a combined $18.2 million for the 2010-11 season, and New York president Donnie Walsh needs to move at least one of them (depending on how David Lee's and Nate Robinson's restricted free agency play out this summer) to have enough cap room to make a max offer to one of the stud free agents who will be on the market a year from now -- a lineup that begins, on New York's wish list, with LeBron James.
8. Samuel Dalembert ($12.02 million against Philadelphia's cap)
Want to know why Billy King is appearing regularly on NBA TV these days while Ed Stefanski is the man at the controls of the Philadlephia 76ers? Because of the litany of exorbitant deals the Sixers gave out under King's and Larry Brown's watch (Eric Snow, Aaron McKie, Kenny Thomas) -- one of the worst of which was King's alone: Dalembert's six-year, $64 million deal in the summer of 2005. Still to be determined is whether the Sixers will regret that signing more than last summer's signing of Elton Brand.

9. Tracy McGrady ($23.29 million against Houston's cap)
With McGrady recovering from microfracture surgery that will force him to miss at least part of the upcoming season, any team that acquires T-Mac will have an insurance company paying a large chunk of his salary. And in an economic climate like the one that's changing the NBA landscape as we speak, this could emerge as quite the trade chip for Daryl Morey if the Rockets' general manager plays his cards correctly.
10. Kenny Thomas ($8.775 against Sacramento's cap)
This contract would have been the Knicks' problem (actually, it wouldn't haven been a problem for them because it's a big deal that expires in the summer of 2010) if New York had agreed to send Nate Robinson and Jared Jeffries to Sacramento at February's trade deadline. If the teams decide to revisit that deal (adding Bobby Jackson as a sign-and-trade piece with only one guaranteed season would make the salaries match), it might make sense for both teams -- as well as being one of the few ways Robinson will get the type of money he is seeking.

11. Mo Peterson and Antonio Daniels ($5.8 million and $6.6 million, respectively, against New Orleans' cap)
Peterson is signed through '10-11 (he'll make $6.2 million in his final year) and has a 7.5 percent trade kicker, so we'll go ahead and pencil him in for the Hornets on next year's Dead Money List. Daniels once was a pretty nice player, a steady point guard who won a championship with the '99 Spurs, and he's one of the nicest guys in the league. But he never was worth the money Washington dumped on him when it gave him a five-year, $29 million contract in the Summer of Dalembert. Taking on this contract was the cost of getting rid of Mike James, which the Hornets were doing when they acquired AD from Washington this past December to have a more reliable backup behind Chris Paul.
12. Nick Collison ($6.25 million against Oklahoma City's cap)
Collison also is on the books for $6.75 million in 2010-11, meaning he'll earn nearly as much money in the next two seasons as Kevin Durant will have earned over the first three seasons of the rookie contract he currently is playing under. The good news for the Thunder: Earl Watson's $6.6 million salary comes off the books next summer, and Collision will come off the cap a year later when Clay Bennett and his partners have to start digging deep to pay veteran money to Durant, Jeff Green and then Russell Westbrook and James Harden. (Another positive note for OKC fans: The Thunder own Phoenix's unprotected 2010 draft pick, which means they could have two lottery picks next June.)

13. Brian Cardinal ($6.75 million against Minnesota's cap)
He doesn't have much game left, but Cardinal still is living large off the largesse Jerry West was throwing around in the summer of 2004 with Memphis, when he bestowed a six-year contract on a role player coming off one overachieving season in Golden State. Of course, that happened only 12 months after West traded the rights to Kendrick Perkins and Marcus Banks to Boston for the rights to Troy Bell and Dahntay Jones -- not a good year for "The Logo," whose successor, Chris Wallace, took on the Jaric contract in order to rid himself of Cardinal's contract in last year's Mike Miller trade.
14. Marcus Banks ($4.5 million against Toronto's cap)
NBA veteran Malik Rose once told me a story about how NBA players had a term for players who stopped producing immediately after signing a big contract. They called it "signed and retired," and Banks embodies that. And no Banks entry can exclude the story of how Phoenix gave him that four-year, $18 million contract the same year they drafted Rajon Rondo and traded his rights to Boston. Rondo will make just $2.1 million next season, while Banks will be on his third team since then, unless Toronto somehow manages to move him.
15. Zach Randolph ($16 million against the Clippers' cap)
Z-Bo is such a special case that he merits inclusion simply for the relative absurdity of his price tag ($33 million over the next two years). He's not really dead money, given his production, but he's an awfully expensive piece of a handsomely paid front line that also will include Chris Kaman 's $10.4 million, Marcus Camby's $9.6 million and Blake Griffin's $4.98 million in the upcoming season if none of them are traded over the summer.

Report: Clippers send Randolph to Memphis for Richardson

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Clippers reportedly cleared some cap space for 2010, sending forward Zach Randolph to Memphis in exchange for forward/guard Quentin Richardson.

Several media sources are reporting the exchange. Randolph is set to make $33 million over the next two seasons, while Richardson makes $9 million in 2009-10, the last year of his deal.

Not only does the deal clear significant cap space for Los Angeles, but the Clippers will also receive an $8 million trade exception because of the salary differences.

League rules prevent the deal from being completed until next week.

Richardson has now been traded twice in a week and comes back to where his career began. The 6-foot-6 DePaul product was traded from New York to Memphis on draft night in exchange for Darko Milicic.

The 29-year-old, who was the Clippers' first-round pick in 2000, averaged 10.2 points in 72 games for the Knicks last season and holds a 11.5 career points per game average. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Clips, averaging a career-high 17.2 points per game in his last season with the club in 2003-04.

Randolph, who split last season with New York and Los Angeles, will head to the Grizzlies after putting up over 20 points a game in 50 combined contests with the two clubs. The 27-year-old has career averages of 16.7 points and 8.3 rebounds in 506 career games with Portland, New York and the Clippers.
