Jefferies impact

I know, like we all know, we still need a true big in the middle. However, I don't understand why those prognosticaters completely blow off his value to our team defense.

When I take a look at some of the top teams, they have undersized bigs parading as centers. You wanna tell me Jared Jefferies is easily overmatched by Joakim Noah? Eric Dampier/Joel Anthony? Tyson Chandler?

Wanna tell me that Jefferies can't make the Boozer's of the world earn their points? Bosh?

What abt the fact that Jefferies allows us to make Turiaf what he is, a scrappy back up, making us better in that way. Also, Stat does not have to be exposed now, which is of utmost imp.

In the end, I know real Knicks fans have eyes and can see our progression on defense. Just aggravates me when I hear people give teams with the same problem, a chance to win, while giving us no chance.

We're poised for a big run imo, and amazingly Jared Jefferies will play a huge role in it.

I could see us making a serious run this year. The team seems much more cohesive. Jeffries is a big part of that and I cant begin to understand why. But I'll accept it as is and hope we continue to win...

You can tell they are workin on defense. Jeff let's us play an effective zone, does not slow us down on offense, and his hustle is contagious. Overall this team is more geared for defense. Lotta two way players now. Gonna be better when Billups returns. I honestly think the Knicks can beat anyone in a series now.

We'll see how far we go. I'm praying for good things. Lets get passed Dallas tonight, and show another good defensive outing. Let GO NY

Oh yeah, there is no doubt about it... Since the trade, our defense is much improved.

The sad part is D'Antoni haters only look @ the final score when judging defense which is like ranking a RB off of yards without looking at the O-Line & average yards per carry.

We played great defense after 3 quarters againt ORL & fell off during the 4th.

Same goes for last night against Memphis, 4th quarter problems but our offensive struggles were the main reason for our defense giving up easy buckets.

Our defense would have allowed much less the two previous games but we built large enough leads that MDA rested our starters during the 4th.

We have to close out the 4th & become consistant but calling Mike "O'Antoni'' makes you seem foolish or 13 years old.

I've enjoyed what I've seen from Jeffries this go around, love the defensive intensity & hustle but tonight we'll all get a chance to see what we really landed in JJ once he goes up against Tyson Chandler. Tonight's JJ's true test.

When you have 2 superstar players that can carry the offense, a guy like Jeffries can help your team with his hustle & seems to make a more positive impact. When you have a team full of role players & unproven youth like we've had over his 1st stint in NY, then he gets exposed for his severe lack of offensive skillset.

Most guys like JJ at least have some kind of offensive game. Varejao is a defensive specialist also, but he could consistently convert around the rim and hit wide open shots. JJ is like a pf version of Jason Collins.

Im sorry, but imo JJ is gassed up. Obviously we have no choice but to play him, and ill give him props for not backing down to any challenge. The thing is, he gets paid to play ball, and as I watch him play I get extremely irritated at alot of the decisions he makes as a player.

If you guys actually watch his last 5 or 6 games, he is covering larger, better players, but his awareness is sorely lacking. PnR basketball is the basic of basics. He constantly hedges like he's a slow 7'3 player and gets blew by or in the way of the other defender. Its not all his fault, coachig will help him take care of those issues, but as we all know they dont peach defense in a mike dantoni system.

Alot of the issues when we get hurt on the PnR is communication and hustle. JJ is athletic enough to cover it, but he lacks the awareness. Just watch and you guys will see. Sorry for the negative post, but this is something that irritates me. I coach 8th grade aau tams, and they get it. Why cant a player who gets paid to do it get it??

I agree with you, even Bruce Bowen who was the quintessential defensive specialist could knock down open 3 pointers with regularity. Jeffries on the floor puts us at a distinct disadvantage on a nightly basis on the offensive end, he's a complete non-factor other teams don't even have to bother trying to defend him they can double on STAT or Melo at will because they know he can't even convert a layup underneath the basket when he does get the ball in his hands. This is why playing him for anything more than 20 or so minutes a game is going to hurt your team the defense he brings does not offset the detriment he is on the offensive end of the floor if he's playing extended minutes. I think your Jason Collins example is pretty accurate, another player with zero offensive skillset & limited value defensively.

We all knew what we were getting when we picked him up. He's an o.k. defender against subpar talent and he doesn't get blocks, steals or rebounds. He's basically a bigger Corey Brewer with no talent on offense but does just enough things well on defense to be kept around. He is better than his stats give him credit for...Maybe it's his ability to alter shots and deflect balls and hustle. All that being said I still don't see why he couldn't of replaced Balkman, they're basically the same player minus the height.
