Default Knicks V Pacers - Mar 13 + 15: Home And Away Double Thread Special

    Crazy8s Thread Soundtrack

Growing up on a small island, 10,600 miles from New York, this epic number from circa '92 is on the first CD I ever bought, and was the same year I first went to The Big Apple to watch The Knicks. The very track I was listening to on the walk to The Garden.

Press play NOW. It's life changing inspirado.

    HOME AND AWAY SPECIAL

After an entire era's worth of woeful lowliness for us, we're caught in the throes of an escalating race for preeminence.

From tip-off at The Garden this Sunday, we have 17 games in which to establish as best a position as possible for our long awaited return to the post season. An old and bitter foe challenges us at home and in their own arena, in a pair of crucial consecutive games.

WE ARE THE NEW YORK KNICKS

    CERBERUS LEADS OUR CHARGE!

And Now, The Moment You've All Been Waiting For.

    THE STARTING

The whole "some say" thing has been thrown on the back burner.

Once, upon being asked to please a woman, he went for the thrust of lust..........and missed

The focal of probing our opponents in my eyes, is to refer to our weaknesses and strengths to ascertain advantages.

We shall start with rebounding, our main concern, per position.

◉ The Pacers, through positions 3-5, carom 32.3 RPG and 11.9 RPG in the back court for a total of 44.2 RPG combined. 4th best in the Eastern Conference.

They allow opponents glass cleaners, positions 3-5, 31.4 RPG and 11.3 from the back court, for a total of 42.7 RPG

The Knicks, however, positions 3-5, average 27.6 RPG and 13.5 from our back court, for a total of 41.1. Fields, clearly, is the difference maker here.

As we know too well, opponent bigs have career nights on the glass against us. This is an issue that needed rectifying at season's beginning. When will it be addressed?

70% of Indiana's converted offence comes from jump shots. They advocate ball movement in motion offence. Guard play and defending screens will help in thwarting their go to motion plays.

They also convert plays in a similar quick fire manner to the SSOL, with a whopping 42% of their converted makes coming from a quick strike motion set play in the first 10 seconds of the shot clock.

Our transition defence is as temperamental as a pregnant prostitute. We have to stick with our assignments and communicate. Transition screens must be played effectively, and defensive switches are integral to success.

We have an advantage at the point courtesy of strength in numbers. Throwing Billups, Douglas and Anthony Carter at Darren Collison will aid in crippling the transition threat. We can afford a full court one on one check after converted buckets.

    Focal Match Up

Danny Granger, Indiana's leading scorer @ 20.7 PPG, is a very smooth scorer and an effective rebounder @ 5.5 RPG. According to hoopshype.com, he is capable of outstanding defence when inspired, and what inspires a player more than going head to head with an opponent better than them?

At 6'8" - 228, he measures up almost exactly with Anthony, who at the same height weighs in @ 230.

    Interior Threats

    Hibbert: 7.7 RPG, 1.8 BPG ★ 7'2" - 278 Lbs

    McRoberts: 5.5 RPG, .9 BPG

    Foster: 6.7 RPG, .7 BPG

    Nostalgia At Its Best

A look back at 2 of the best moments of our heated rivalry with Indiana, and an example of the electricity in MSG when we took on Veggie Griller and the Pacers. I still abhor Reggie Miller to this day. Every time he sais "Are you kidding me?" whilst commentating, I feel like kicking his sister in the balls.

    Game Thread Yahoo! Preview

Instead of being without two starters, it looks as if the New York Knicks could be at full strength when they open a home-and-home series against the sputtering Indiana Pacers on Sunday night at Madison Square Garden.

Amare Stoudemire(notes) was initially going to be suspended for this game after receiving his 16th technical of the season in Thursday’s 127-109 loss in Dallas. He and the Mavericks’ Brendan Haywood(notes) were called for offsetting technicals in the second quarter.

The league has since rescinded both technical fouls after deeming they were harmless.

Losing Stoudemire to an automatic one-game suspension would have made things much tougher on the Knicks (34-30), who are in a tight race with Philadelphia for sixth place in the Eastern Conference. The six-time All-Star scored 24 of his 36 points Thursday in the second half, but New York still had its three-game winning streak snapped.

“Amare was huge in the second half,” Mike D’Antoni said. “There was no quit in him. He played. But they just beat us.”

While Stoudemire, who averages a team-best 26.4 points, will certainly remain in the starting lineup, New York also could get Chauncey Billups(notes) back.

Billups, averaging 23.3 points and 6.0 assists in four games since being acquired from Denver, missed his sixth straight contest Thursday because of a bruised left thigh. Billups practiced Saturday, however, and is listed as probable on the team’s injury report.

New York is 6-4 since trading for Carmelo Anthony(notes) and Billups.

Anthony is hoping to bounce back after finishing with 18 points on 5-of-15 shooting against Dallas. The four-time All-Star had combined for 65 points and shot 60.0 percent in his previous two games.

Anthony faced the Pacers twice this season with Denver with two vastly different results. He had 13 points on 5-of-15 shooting in a November loss at Indiana, but he scored 36 and shot 14 of 27 in a win over the Pacers on Jan. 23.

The Knicks beat Indiana 98-92 at MSG on Jan. 2 in the teams’ only matchup, their fifth win in the last seven meetings. Stoudemire led New York with 26 points and his 24.9 career average versus the Pacers is his highest against any East opponent, including 30.9 the last seven times he’s faced them.

Indiana (27-38) arrives in New York following Friday’s 108-98 loss to Toronto, its sixth straight defeat. That loss combined with Charlotte’s win over Portland dropped the Pacers into a tie with the Bobcats for the East’s final playoff spot.

Indiana looked like it might cruise to the playoffs, winning seven of its first eight games under coach Frank Vogel, but has since lost 10 of 13.

Despite losing again Friday, Danny Granger(notes) finally seemed to find his shot, finishing with 25 points and making 3 of 5 from 3-point range to end an 0-for-12 drought. He averaged 13.6 points on 27.5 percent shooting in his previous five games.

After losses to Minnesota and Toronto, the Pacers’ schedule is about to get much tougher. Following Tuesday’s home game against New York, Indiana faces Boston, Chicago and Memphis.

“It’s not going to get any easier,” said Granger, who had 25 points and a career-best 17 rebounds against the Knicks in January. “We really let ourselves down, we really dropped the ball. We had a few teams that we should have beaten and we didn’t. Now we’ve got playoff teams. It’s probably one of the hardest stretches we’ll play this year. We’ve got to buckle down or we’re going to miss this playoff spot.”

    Chris Sheridan

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Chauncey Billups scrimmaged with the New York Knicks Saturday and was highly optimistic that he'll be able to return Sunday against the Indiana Pacers following a six-game absence due to a deep thigh bruise.

"It felt good, now I'm just hoping I don't have any setbacks between now and tomorrow. If not, I look forward to playing tomorrow," Billups said after the Knicks' 90-minute session. "I went as good as I could. It's amazing how being out a week you can get winded so fast, but I went pretty hard and it felt pretty good."

The Knicks went 4-2 while Billups was sidelined, and they hope to have him for the final 18 games of the regular season as they jostle for playoff positioning.

Billups has not played since his thigh collided with the knee of Dwight Howard in the Knicks' loss to Orlando on March 1.

Toney Douglas has started in his absence and averaged 16.5 points on 52 percent shooting with 7.5 assists per game.

"The timing couldn't have been any worse with us trying to build as a unit, me as the point guard trying to learn these guys' games and play with them, but it is what it is and we need to move forward," Billups said.

Currently sixth in the Eastern Conference, the Knicks are just a half-game ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers but also are within reach of the fifth-place Atlanta Hawks, who lead New York by 1½ games but have a tougher schedule down the stretch.

Sunday's game against the Pacers will begin a run of five games in which four of the opponents currently have losing records. Indiana, which the Knicks will face Tuesday as the visiting team, has lost six in a row to fall into a tie with Charlotte for eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

That has given a glimmer of postseason hope to the Detroit Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks, whom the Knicks will face next weekend before the schedule turns tougher with the Boston Celtics visiting Madison Square Garden on March 21, and the Orlando Magic coming in two nights later.

Amare Stoudemire said he was pleased with Friday's ruling from the league office to rescind his 16th technical foul, which would have forced him to miss Sunday night's game. Players are automatically suspended for their 16th technical, plus another game for every second subsequent technical foul they receive.

"There's only been once so far where I was close to receiving a 16th technical foul. Other than that I've been pretty conscious of not receiving it," said Stoudemire, who has not been called for a non-rescinded technical foul since Feb. 23 against Milwaukee.

After having a day off Friday following seven games in 10 nights, the Knicks will be busy the rest of the month. Saturday marked the last time until April 2 that the Knicks will have two consecutive days off between games.

"We'll bounce back. That's something I'm not worried about," Carmelo Anthony said. "The schedule has been brutal to us, so we're trying to get through right and we have two days to get right.

"The chemistry is not going to be there quite yet this early. We've seen flashes where everybody is on the same page, and we've seen flashes where we were out of sync -- whether it was due to the scheduling, fatigue, whatever it was. But as far as the chemistry, we're getting better each day."

In the 10 games since Anthony and Billups were acquired, the Knicks have averaged nearly 115 points per game -- well above their season average of 106.6. Anthony has averaged 25.6 points in his 10 games with the Knicks, while Stoudemire has been scoring at an average of 30.3 points.

But the Knicks also have surrendered at least 108 points in seven of those 10 games, with the Dallas Mavericks' 127 points Thursday night representing the third-highest point total scored against New York this season.
