Shumpert being compared to Douglas?

-Shumpert is slightly a taller version of Toney Douglas.

-He is lights out on the defensive end like Douglas, and can score



-Douglas is a slightly better shooter then Shumpert, but with the right coaching and training Iman could be a solid back-up at the point.


However, the striking similarities between the two cannot be denied and points toward one thing:



-New York has a measuring stick of who they would have to give up in a trade for Paul. Yes, other teams have more to offer than the Knicks, but if Paul truly wants to be in New York, the Hornets will have to deal with whatever the Knicks have to offer. So with that said, Shumpert means the Hornets are interested in Douglas. Of course Chauncey Billups' expiring contract would be a part of any deal for Paul, which means the Knicks would be giving away two point guards, leaving a void at the position, even when Paul arrives.

The Knicks have two great young backcourt bench-players in TD & Fields....
Billups need a veteran NBA guard (RIP) to start in the backcourt with him.

The Shumpert draft took us backards (Fields) 2011
The Gallo draft took us backwards (Chandler) 2008
The Balkman draft took us backwards (Ariza) 2006

Ariza/ W.Chandler/ and Fields were all 28 mpg decent offense/
defense peformance players in their rookie season.

How is a team going to grow when the dum-dum G.M. have a habit
of selecting the same-position player in back to back season drafts???


Another player who probably waited longer than he should have was defensive specialist Chris Singleton of Florida State. Singleton was selected 18th overall by the Washington Wizards and his talents will go a long way to improve an awful Wizards defense.
The surprise with Singleton was in the fact that the New York Knicks had the chance to take him just before Washington and they, instead, went with Georgia Tech's Iman Shumpert. Like the Wizards, the Knicks were targeting defense and even though Shumpert is a terrific perimeter defender, he isn't as versatile as Singleton who showed he was capable of guarding nearly every position on the floor this college season.
By not taking Singleton at No.17, it appears that New York missed in this year's draft.

Don't we already have Renaldo Balkman another "Defensive Specialist". I think this was just a weak draft....i'm not too high on any of hte picks we could have got.

Shumpert will play the point, with Fields and Douglas will be out a job because Shumpert is a taller and probably smarter version of Toney Douglas.

I agree. I don't think Toney's that great a defender to be honest. I'd really shop Toney hard now to see what I could come up with.

If Sacramento offered Casspi/Isaiah Thomas or Donte Greene/Thomas, would you guys do either of those deals?

If he's better on D then TD then great with his size... if he's just as good with the size its still a good thing. The major thing for me is is he better at reading the game and getting others involved?

If he has better passing instincts then Douglas then i'd rather keep shumpert. In honesty we have a redunancy of combo guards and still no back up PG for the aging billups. if we are going to go for a run this post season we either need to trade douglas or shumpert for a true PG, or hope that shumpert can be a 6'6 PG.
