Who's going to provide help for clueless Mike?
Are we going to sit back and accept another bottom of the league defense?

More excuses?

I can assume the "we're incomplete", "wait til' next year", "if we had a defensive assistant- specialist" will still be the norm?

Or will it be we need a full training camp to gel excuse?

Patrick Ewing? (Yea right)
The Detroit Pistons have chosen Lawrence Frank to be their new head coach, according to sources with knowledge of the team's thinking.

The Pistons have selected Frank over former Detroit assistant Mike Woodson, with sources telling ESPN.com that the decision signals the growing influence in the organization of former New York Knicks executive Dave Checketts.

Yahoo! Sports first reported that Frank's hiring is imminent. The Associated Press reported that Frank will have a formal contract offer from Detroit within the next two days.

Lawrence Frank, shown here while an assistant with the Boston Celtics, is expected to become the new coach of the Detroit Pistons, sources tell ESPN.com.
ESPN.com reported last week that the Pistons had narrowed their search down to Frank and Woodson and that Frank had made a strong impression on the Pistons' new ownership. That nudged the Boston Celtics assistant coach ahead of Woodson, who sources said was the preferred choice of longtime Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars.

...more excuses for Mike D!

Honestly though, it wouldn't have made much of a difference. We're gonna suck on defense as long as D'Antoni is our headcoach.

This.

Early shots, long shots, and creating more possessions = tough to play high caliber defense. Throw in the lack of attention to detail on that side of the ball....and you're a piss poor defense.

MDA needs to tailor his offense to go hand in hand with a system that has good half-court and transition defense. Good transition defense is almost impossible if we have to grab offensive boards because of long range, low percentage shots. It's like a person with a terrible vocabulary trying to do a crossword puzzle with a pen....it's not gonna work son, stop it.

This might not be bad news for the Knicks.

One defensive coach candidate that the Knicks should consider is Dennis Rodman.

He is one of the best defenders in the NBA history and could teach guys like Amar'e and Turiaf to rebound and play solid defense.

I think we should make a play for Dwayne Casey. He helped to get the traditionally defensively inept team like the Mavs to play some very solid defense in the playoffs by going to zone on a lot of possessions. He was even able to get -irk to actually play some D, now his name is finally Dirk. I think he could really help a defensively inept team like the Knicks too.

With Amar'e and Carmelo as our superstars, offense should be the least of our concerns. Defense is the way to go. With MDA and his assisstants, I don't see the knicks being a defensive powerhouse in the league. :(

Raptors already hired him as a head coach.

WOW that's a great hire by the Raptors. It seems like every team is making moves except for us.

Other than possibly hiring a defensive assistant to help Mike D, there really are no moves for us to make until the lockout ends and free agency (however abrupt and chaotic it is destined to be) begins

Dennis Rodman???
I bet this guy is in Vegas, high as **** every day, running around in some queer outfits. Rodman with his lifestyle could never be a coach in a professional league.

Maybe he can just be a big man coach like Patrick Ewing is with Orlando? Idk I still think there has to be a decent defensive assistant coach available.

My first response when finding out this news was the same. NOW WHAT? Although I agree with another poster on this board when he says it wouldnt have mattered anyway. Definitely looks like another 1st round exit next year. Thats if we even have a season...

1 player who I always thought would make a good defensive coach someday was Gary Payton. I dunno why the Glove has never pursued a career in coaching, he was always a heady player & 1 of the best defensive players I've ever seen play (1 of the best offensive PG's too for that matter). Anyone know what he's up to these days?

'Antoni isn't gonna let a defensive do their job anyway, not surprised we didn't get Frank.

What do any of his assistants do on the bench, other than look like corporate execs with season passes?

Poor-poor Detroit Pistons getting another bust headcoach in Lawrence Frank.

Mike Dantoni shouldve been FIRED by the Knicks after his first
season in New York. The Dantoni-brothers coaching is why
elderly-sick Donnie Walsh is out of a job in New York.
Headcoach Mike Woodson was drafted by the Knicks, and shouldve got his first coaching job as a Knicks.
