Should we use the new waive exception on Balkman or save it for.....

New New York

Quiet Storm
One of the 3 max players we will/may have on our roster at the start of next season?

So waiving Balkman's 1.5 or contract will give us some money to bring back Feilds and add a max next year

But being that we can only use this clause once every 6 years or so why not just eat Balkman's contract and use this in the case one of our "Big 3" turns into Gilbert Arenas or Jermaine Oneil!

Four years ago a starting 5 that consisted of the before mentioned Jermaine Oneil, Gibert Arenas and say T-Mac would have been thought to be a 60 win team..... fast forward and we are talking 3 players not over the age of 31 who will be playing for league minimum deals for the rest of their NBA career and who are barely 6th men on most NBA teams

Who's to say that won't be Melo, Stat and say Chris Paul (the most popular choice to join us in 2012), so saving this exception to me is the smartest move we could possibly make!

Sound off!

Nice piece of pre-thought.

It's certainly an ace in the sleeve. Donnie would.

To lose STAT or Melo indefinitely and have them instantly cleared from the cap is too good to pass up. It could even improve the team in certain circumstances.

The Knicks only have 9 players under contract.

Whenever the season get started.....coach Mike Woodson & Billups will take
a stance to use Balkman's tough presence to screen/boxout/shotblock/and
rebound when we put a transition-lineup on the court.
Balkman's $1.5M services (averaging 22 minutes of pt) is worth more than
the services of Turiaf, Shawn, and Jefferies (halfcourt-players) put together.

Amare is a high unstoppable scorer in transition, while Melo is a high scorer
in a halfcourt setting.

With Mike Damnphony out of the picture, and Mike Woodson in charge....
I would not sleep on the skillfull tactics of SF-Balkman's performance in
a lineup with rookie centers Jordan or Jorts with PF-Amare, SG-Fields,
and PG-Billups.

Our 2nd season Landry Fields does have a sweet offensive game under
his sleeve that could co-exist with strong-foward Balkman who tactics
in the paint co-exist with unstoppable-foward Amare. All the 3 above
fowards need is for PG-Billups to comunicate well with rookie center
Jordan or rookie center Jorts on positioning around the paint

Did you say Balkman should play 22 MPG? LOLOL

Balkman should never play. He is an awful NBA player. Just keep his contract on the books til it expires, it's too small to use the exception on.

it makes no sense to do it now regardless if CP3 is part of the future plans or not. God forbid something happens to one of the knicks stars between now and next offseason. what would the knicks do then huh say we can't remove them because we couldn't stand to have balkman on the bench?

Wait some time to use the exception. If Amar'e needs another Knee surgery, God forbid, then we can just wipe his contract off the books, correct?

The waive-exception will be great for us in the offseason, plus great for
alot of other NBA teams to use at prying loose 1 or 2 of the superstar FA
from their team.

Dont sleep on Balkman....the Knicks dont need anymore scoring....
we need screeners, rebounders, and someone to harrass Lebron/Bosh
for 18 minutes a game. Plus our $100M Man surgical-kness will need a
CENTER for half of his 36 minute playintime, and a guy like Balkman to
do all the dirty-work (pick up fouls on defense).

this right here is the truth... we suddenly forgot that we don't need stars at every position.. If our coach would give him a chance you will see he can hold his own on defense...

Except you can find a much better NBA player to do what Balkman does, and not be a gigantic liability on offense for a very cheap salary.

I can't believe you think BALKMAN should be getting a ton of minutes. That is just baffling.

It isn't about having stars everywhere as much as its about Balkman being a terrible player who shouldn't be in the NBA

Renaldo is the type of guy we need on the floor in place of Jared. He can do everything Jared can except better. Renaldo i faster , smarter and more athletic than Jeff. It would be smart to keep that exception just in case Amare turns into McDyess 2.0 ( not saying that will happen ):2cents:

SAVE IT

If amnesty was done once a year then we could use it but this is only allowed once for the whole 6-10 year CBA deal

We should think about the future, and in the future Amare and Melo will have ridiculous contracts. Amare might start to wear down and become injury prone by the end of his contract, so we can save it for that. It is a get out of jail free card. Why use it on Renaldo Balkman who is only getting paid a little over 1 mil?

Use it on a big contract.

by the way, we can trade Balkman at any time.
