Knicks looking into Mike Bibby

TheKnicksBlog is reporting that Mike Bibby is on the Knicks' radar.

He did not play great in the playoffs with Miami but the guy is a competent 3-point shooter who was once a very good point guard. I think it will be good to have him on the same team as Iman Shumpert and Toney Douglas; the Knicks could use a solid veteran player like him.

He's not the same player he used to be but he'll be fine as a catch and shoot player and 3-point specialist type of guy. I think it's a fine acquisition for the minimum if that's what they get him for.

No thanks I think we need athleticism at the 1 spot Bibby is more of a bench guy and we have 1 in Douglas who's a better defender

We also need outside shooting since our 3-point shooting is all but gone right now. Bibby is a cheap option who can serve as a good mentor for Douglas who as of right now still has no idea how to play the point. Bibby isn't a pure distributor but he is an experienced veteran and we need a PG with outside shooting skills BADLY. We have no outside shooting up front, so...

We have Douglas for that along with being a capable defender, we hopefully are getting Baron Davis since he's getting bought out instead of the amnesty clause so he's free to sign wherever

Do not want :barf: I'm not even sure he has the ability to be a starter quality PG for a whole season.

Bibby couldn't hit a shot last year?

Bibby shot 45.5% from 3-point range last year.

TD didn't shoot poorly, but we still need a backup PG. In addition, I don't think Douglas can handle playing more minutes, and that still doesn't change the fact that Douglas has no PG skills whereas Bibby is an experienced veteran who can mentor him from the bench.

I agree we need to get some kind of vet presence on this team right now it's all young guys/mid career guys there are not really any savvy vets on our team after getting shot of Billups.

Bibby is a winner too might not have won a chip but I think we all remember 2002 pretty clearly.

Because the last time he was in the NBA he was still good, and looked good in Turkey. Bibby didn't look better than Shawne Williams last season.

On some ish your right the thing is he was getting his asssss torched by young guys if I recall but maybe he's in better shape wont hurt at all after all we do have questions at PG and Allen Iverson is the Answer

That's right! He will basically be a tutor. He's seen WCFs as a lead point against the Lakers at full might, and will help Douglas in his preparation and his intangible sense for the game - Shump, too.

All he needs do is play hard for 10-15, make his presence felt in setting up the game, and he'll be well worth the minimum.

We need Bibby because Douglas and Shumpert need Bibby.

Chauncey, on the other hand, would have been perfect. Bibby is a far cry from Billups' in every way that we need him to be.

We are still in good shape without him, though.

so he is gonna outplay TD and shumpert and be the starters..... damn we went right back to dumpster diving..... if he takes the min to be a backup and allows the knicks to spend the 2.5 on someone else to be the starter maybe this is ok.

Bibby :barf:

Look, I love this board, read a ton, post occasionally, rarely bother pointing out flaws or arguing because I just enjoy reading every opinion and while I think some posts are stupid, it's not worth arguing, we all like same team. This all said, I may be wrong here, but while I don't want Bibby at all personally, hate the dude and thought he was overrated in his prime, and is now well out of his prime, I can deal with people thinking its a good minimum signing, not alot we can do as far as signings at this point. But in any event, someone just said if he takes just the minimum and we can spend the other 2.5 on someone else then sure... the other 2.5 what? Maybe amnesty billups, trade turiaf for nothing, and sign and trade balkman for chandler opens up enough, but my understanding before the "low salary player of our choice to dallas" thing came up was that we were making just enough cap room to get chandler by effectively dumping billups and turiaf, and with using the amnesty we are SOL on the MLE this year, so we can only sign minimums... please tell me I am missing something, I'll be glad to be mistaken, but was under impression we could only pick up mins at this point
