    Nyk Logo Chauncy Billups FAN-Favorite

Do anyone recall the co-existence of Stat & Shaq under coach Dantoni?

The Knicks dont have any floor leadership to get pass the first-round of the
playoffs with a healthy Melo/Stat/and Chandler.

Chauncy Billups leadership service for only 2 seasons wouldve given the
Knicks a co-existing chemistry system on both sides of the court for the
next 5 seasons. Waiving Billups took the Knicks backwards to the 2005 Knicks.

Tyson Chandler, Amare, and definately Melo, all NEED a playoff experience
floor leader like Billups to call the shots for 48 minutes, practice, and
lockerroom discipline....the average PG (Rondo, Nelson, Felton, Miller, ect.)
can not controll the BIG-EGO Melo/Stat from wanting the ball on every
offensive-play. The Knicks are back with their "individual-performance" with
no chemistry, and no team-defensive-system to help Tyson Chandler.
Assistant coach Mike Woodson took the job on the strength of Billups
    being a Knicks.

P.S. for some reason the waiving of Billups has alot to do with Carmelo
Anthony/Dantoni.....and why Amare stayed in Florida wanting no parts of the
conspiracy....the 5 cancelation of Amare mini-camp during the lockout is now
making SENSE with alot of clairity...

Im taking all comments now so after the 66 game season and the
Melo-first round knockout I can say, "I told u so"

I for one don't mind losing Billups because it allowed for Tyson Chandler to be acquired. I am on record as not being a fan of Billups but with our current cap and lack of tradeable assets I am not delusional to think we will be able to get a PG in return that is as good.

look, I kno Billups is a good player but how much longer can we go with Amare at the 5, getting hacked on offense, and getting dunked on on defense? It had to end and if it meant sacrificing Billups, fine. He wasn't running the offense as well as Felton and he broke down toward the end of the season. Two "deep" knee bruises? Come on. Give it up, it's over. We needed size, he was the price.

I really agree with you for the first time Kiya, I don't think Chandler is worth losing Billups/Paul next year? Point guard is easily the most important part of the D'Antoni system and like it or not we are stuck with him. (Even if he is fired its still the D'Antoni system because of Stat and Melo, so lets just field the best team with it)

Just remember how bad we played without Billups last year and how good we played WITH him

LOL we are stuck with the D'Antoni system because of STAT and Melo?! Man jpz you got almost as good drugs as Kiya these days you should spread that stuff around mate

Billups is not a D'Antoni PG anyway. Melo is not a D'Antoni SF. As much as I like Billups and wish we could have kept him, thinking we have not improved from this is crazy.

How about how good we played with Felton, and a lone star player?

We can find quality PGs. MDA is a good PG coach.

What we needed was a starting NBA center. Quality NBA centers are not easy to find.

We got a first tier, champion, legit 7ft+ NBA center.

We lost a 1yr Billups rental, 35years old, coming off a miserable injury riddled playoffs.

MDA doesn't need some all-star PG, either; really, he moreso just needs any NBA quality baller who has speed, can develop some range, and is a heady player.

If Sessions ever comes here, much like Felton, he'll "magically" get in the all-star voting discussion.

If anything, the PG we need is one who is a master of distribution, too, and not known as Mr Big Shot. This is a team built around two superstar, offensive juggernauts. Billups does not fit that bill; his career assist numbers back this up further, too.

**obv in an idea world, we keep Billups this season, he isn't some scrub; but this parting is very much more sweet than sorry for us.

We can find quality PGs. MDA is a good PG coach.
Felton career in Charlotte turned out to be worth a 2 year MLE contract.
Felton averaging 40 mpg passing the ball only to an unstoppable Amare (pick
n roll) for 6 to 7 of his assist per game, wore down Amare 3 months into the
season which forced the Knicks to look for another top scorer the Melo-trade.

There is no quality PG with Billups experience/leadership/and floor coaching.
Look at how well Denver young guards (Lawson, Affalo, Smith) turned out
under Billups 3 seasons of tutorship.
Rick Carlisle coached Billups into a star in 2002.
Don Nelson & Finley coached Nash into a star in 2001.
Dantoni NBA career he hasnt coached a PG into being a starter.
Get it right....Nash/J.Johnson/Marion/Amare made Dantoni look like a NBA coach.
Dont get Dantoni mixed up with Byron Scott or Rick Carlisle

What we needed was a starting NBA center. Quality NBA centers are not easy to find.
We got a first tier, champion, legit 7ft+ NBA center.
Tyson Chandler's career has prove he is a top defensive center only when
he has a top strategic headcoach with differ team-defensive plays.
Tyson Chandler individual-defense under Dantoni's coaching is only worth the MLE.

We lost a 1yr Billups rental, 35years old, coming off a miserable injury riddled playoffs.
The Knicks wouldve resign oldman Billups after this 66 game season once they notice the big improvement in team-chemistry, and in the well discipline performance in the backcourt of TD, Fields, Walker, and rookie Shump.

u & Trill....need to watch all 4 games of the Knicks playoffs again vs Boston.

MDA doesn't need some all-star PG, either; really, he moreso just needs any NBA quality baller who has speed, can develop some range, and is a heady player.

u made little to no sense.....guys like u dont understand the worth of a real
PG like.... Derrik Fisher, Jason Kidd, Nash, Billups....who got skills, floor leadership
coaching, and a discipline work ethic that improves their teammates performance,
especially their teammate guards with potential.
The Knicks have 3 young guards with dynamic potential who will need Billups
leadership to controll Melo & Amare hunger to touch the ball on every offensive
    possession.

Felton & Session are 24 minutes of playingtime PG, they were given several
chances to become a starting 32 mpg PG but they failed season after season
by not getting other teammates into the offense or into the game, their leadership
stinks. u shouldve mention PG-Westbrook or PG-Conley who will not let Amare
& Melo demand the ball on every offensive possession....they will call the play.

Please with this billups talk, dude is washed up, we needed a quality defender and we got something better, a quality 7 footer.Wow!! are we really discussing a 35 year old PG on bad wheels against a proven quality big man in his prime.Point guards come along far more often the good defense big men who doesn't need the ball to be effective, i liked billups too but he is done!

These statements absolutely shred the validity of anything you have to say on this topic.

Kiya, you may sit and receive your lesson:

you compare Chandler in his prime, coming off a title, perhaps the best season of his career, and a DPOY type season...with the fat, disgruntled, past his prime Shaq when he got to the Suns? El, Oh, El.

you state that getting Chandler and releasing Billups takes us back to the 2005 Knicks. A refresher course: the 2005 Knicks trotted out the following centers,

    Jerome James
    Eddie Curry
    Channing Frye

Yes. Clearly, a team with the worst center position in the entire NBA, has gone back to the dark ages of Jerome James and Eddie Curry by signing Tyson Chandler, a first tier starting NBA center in his prime.

Unfortunately for you Kiya, you didn't just get a D in this class, you Failed as brutally as you flail about your conspiracy theories with *zero* basis of fact, such as "Woodson only took the job because of Billups"; "Billups getting waived is tied to D'antoni and Melo wanting him gone".

Amare, Joe Johnson, Marion, Nash made D'antoni look good; MDA has never made a PG into a starter.

You're right, Kiya; MDA took a fringe all-star PG and turned him into a multiple MVP, sure-fire HOF player; and another refresher:

Amare -- that "unstoppable" force you described, WAS DRAFTED OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL AS A RAW PLAYER UNDER D'ANTONI; finally, check out the career arcs of Johnson and Marion before and after being coached by D'antoni.

I can't do all of your homework for you for free.

"u & Trill....need to watch all 4 games of the Knicks playoffs again vs Boston."

Why, yes, Kiya....Billups was fantastic! How would you rate the play of our Center position against Boston, Kiya? Jeffries really helped us seal off those wins that Chauncey helped lead us to, huh?

Kiya, you may stand. Class is over.

    Hello!

Consider the FACT that Billups was resigned to a $14MILLION deal for TRADE PURPOSES.

The ideal trade was for CP3, D12, or D Will, because they were the best available and about to become free agents. THERE WAS NO GUARANTEE

    1. any of them would be available

    &

    2. their teams would agree

Therefor ASSUMING they would be ours regardless, is a misconstruing of the FACTS.

See. "bird in the hand beats two in the bush"

LeBron James chooses MIAMI in his eagerly anticipated "Decision"

Point guard is easily the most important part of the D'Antoni system and like it or not we are stuck with him.
Who liked being 2nd in the league in offense, and 28th in defense before getting embarrassingly swept by the hated Celtics in the playoffs, after not being there for years- the last time being swept also?

No, no one likes it. Everyone concluded defense was the weakness. Chandler addresses that weakness.

Instead of continuing to do things the D'Antoni way, we smartened up, and now Mike's excuses are not available. Yes we are "stuck" with MOA, really by choosing to give him an opportunity to coach through his contract... and that expires in LESS THAN 365 days.

Nice way to point out the contradictions in the above post.

Wouldn't you coach and expect to get STAT & MELO the ball as much as possible?

    Hello!

Billups was as good as gone; now or before the TDL

Done, gone, not needed, not valued, not worth $14M. So his departure was inevitable. A Chauncey in his prime would fit on any team. But the FACT is a Chauncey at 34+ is more easily replaceable, leadership included, than acquiring a solid defensive center.

    Easy math. Do it.

What's more available, a pass first point guard or a defensive center?
