Steve Novak to join Knicks?

Big fan of the Novak signing, and I think they should got for Nachbar too. Need a little international flare that D'Antoni loves. I honestly just don't want to see Balkman on the floor regardless of what he did against the Nets.

C-Chandler
PF-Stat
SF-Melo
SG-Fields
PG-Davis

Douglas
Shumpert
Nachbar
Bibby
Novak
Jorts
Jeffries

I can live with that.

Steve Novak????? He is nothing to get the least bit hype over. He hits 3s and THAT's it. Waste of a 6-11 frame and won't help on the defensive end at all.

I feel you on that but at least we are trying to replace our 3 point shooter. I dont see the guy playing anymore than 7 min spot shooting per game.

tbh that is all shawne williams was good for either. People made a big deal about him for some reason but other than hit threes honestly I don't think he did anything well. This guy is a good replacement for him and won't cost us the room cap exception. It just gives us more options of the bench which we really need.

Shawne Williams was a real interesting player for us last yr. He hit 3s on offense but then on defense, he actually did a decent job of guarding perimeter players as well as bigger players down on the low block. Plus he helped out on the glass too. That's where Shawne's real value was..

This guy Novak's nothing like that at all. He's completely one-dimensional. The man shoots 3s and nothing else. He's really a waste of a 6'10" body...Still, if he can take and make 3s like he's done in the past (albeit in limited duty), he's got some value in Mike's system I guess...Hey, when you think about it, what else did Peja Stojakovic really do for the Mavs last yr beside shoot 3s? And he played a MAJOR role throughout the entire playoffs for that team..This guy's stroke is pretty much on par with Peja's more or less. My thing is, how do we get him on the floor long enough for him to have an impact? I mean do we play Melo at the 2 for stretches and let this guy come in there and fire away from deep at the 3 spot? Maybe that can work. That's about the only thing I can think of...I guess he can also play some stretch 4, with Chandler and Melo on the floor with him...Otherwise, I don't see who's PT this guy's taking..

You can make a real case that until we come up with something substantially better, Balkman deserves PT over this guy and Jeffries. And honestly, if we really wanted this type of player: 6'11" Nick Fazekas and 6'10" Rob Kurz are similar but far better options imho. These two are also great perimeter shooters with similar size that at least rebound the ball too..Just sayin'.

I would be surprised if the Knicks sign him. He really is one dimensional like others have commented, he's been a marginal player from the day he came into the league.

Honestly at this point I think we are rounding out our practice squad more then bringing in quality role players. Novak will see 5 mins. in a game maximum.

Consider that D'ant only likes to run 9 guys max a game, that Melo and Amar'e are good to go for 38+ minutes a game, Chandler also will run 30+ minutes. it doesn't leave a lot of time for these bench 3/4/5 players. I can see him possibly in "small ball/we need a 3" scenario's and that's it. (ie. inbound play with 3 seconds left). Otherwise he'll be a good guy to practice against (especially for melo who isn't a good perimeter defender) and you can put him into games where we need to drain some 3's to get back in it.

I think what guys fail to realize is our new defensive scheme is man to man with zone principles, so having Novak play with Chandler behind him is very effective, Dirk couldn't stop anybody hence why he guarded Joel Anthony in the Finals now I'm not saying Novak is Dirk but its the same case as with Dallas. If he can come in to start the 2nd and 4th quarters for 4 minutes and hit 2 or 3 3's and not give up too much on D its fine nonetheless its just a depth pick up no reason to overreact

Yeah.

14-18 minutes a game, 3 point specialist.

That's all we need out of him. A guy who can stretch the floor when Amar'e is sitting.

Steve Novak ???

The Knicks Grunwald is SLOW..... FA Sean Williams wouldve been the perfect
backup for Tyson Chandler to give us rebounding, shotblocking, and put-backs.

The Mavs signed F/C-Sean Williams to a one year contract on Dec. 21

How can you not still be bitter for the Knick brass refusing to play the electric skill set of dominant big-man Earl Barron?

Now we must watch class-act, perennial NBA big Sean Williams play for Dallas, while we toil with their leftovers of Tyson Chandler, alongside a bunch of scrubs feebly filling in for the respect and leadership of NYC legend Chauncey Billups.

Get wit it. :afro:

u right.... I have been callin out each of Layden/Isiah/and Walsh decision-
making moves....which does question my being a Knicks-Fan the past decade,
or am I a Knicks-fan that been hatin on owner Dolan's selection of the past GM.

The Knicks recently signed two of the NBA top-5 high scorers....
What pieces should the Knicks surround around these two scoring superstars?
A) The old Knicks DEFENSE? 1969 to 1999
B) Add more star offensive players?
C) Add any available minimum wage player?

As much as I hated losing Chauncy Billups, the signing of a top NBA defensive
center "Tyson Chandler" was the right direction for the Knicks to go in during
this short 66 game season. Center Tyson not only compliments Amare/Melo
but he also compliments our 2nd season hustling Big-Guard Landry Fields in
the starting lineup. Missing piece to starting lineup is a creative pass-first PG
(we probably wont get untill the 2012-13 season). TD is a great 3rd season
backup PG that create havoc in defending/scoring.

During this short 66 game season our direction should be looking to sign
young defensive depth off the bench, or experience veterans to help our
coach mentor our young players. Shump will be tested as a combo-guard
in his rookie season. Jorts will be tested as F/C in his rookie season. Walker
will be tested on how well he co-exist as a big-SG. Balkman will be tested on
how well he co-exist as a hustling foward. Jordan will be tested on how well
he could be a backup center.
The missing depth piece was the D.League defensive stand-out F/C-Sean
Williams rebounding/shotblocking to be "mentored" by Tyson Chandler &
Amare to become one of their prime backups in our bigman rotation.

NBA Bigmen are always the first to get injured on a team....especially a contender...
