The problem with that is that SHAT has 80 million dollars left in his contract. His contract is Rashard Lewis and Gilbert Arenas scary. In this economy, most teams won't want to pay a guy 80 million, unless he's Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, or Kevin Durant.

The only team I could see signing SHAT is maybe the Lakers, since they're desperate.

Dude. TOR is desperate and they've got enough cap space to sign anyone. Besides, Colangelo loves Stat from Phoenix days. Dunno. Might work.

Also knuckles is right, we might not get anything decent out of it but who cares. Right now he's a liability.

Because #1) he's in a terrible system. And #2) Amar'e can not play in a system where he's NOT the primary PnR man. There's a reason why he goes for big point totals like 27 against the Bucks when Tyson doesn't play. There's a reason why he's been primarily a jump shooter, and takes those awkward drives to the rim that doesn't work BECAUSE TYSON IS BEING USED AS THE PRIMARY P&R MAN, IT'S WHAT HE DOES AS A CENTER ON THE OFFENSIVE END (SEE THE TYSON & CP3 DUO BACK IN THE DAY

Anthony is in a terrible system. So is Lin and Chandler, and they're playing excellent basketball.

The system is no excuse for why he's sluggish and can't shoot the ball in the ocean.
Al Harrington and David Lee survived Antoni's crappy system, so there's no reason why JELLO shouldn't be able to break 45% from the field.

Stoudemire still looked like he lost a step, even when Chandler was injured.
I didn't see him with the same explosiveness or automatic jump shot he had last season.

Anthony is not the answer to the Knicks' problems. He needs to go, while his stock is still high.
The Anthony and A.I. duo failed in Denver, and the Anthony and SHAT duo has failed in New York.

Did we really expect JELLO and SHAT to be averaging a combined 38 points on a combined 42% shooting for 42 million dollars a year? Better yet, did we expect the Knicks to be 2 games away from the falling to 10th place, more than two-thirds into the season?

Fix shit like this:

photo-11.jpg

How about we don't pay people $18M to score 9 points, grab 5 boards, and have no ****ing idea of what you're doing.

Classic Stat on D. This is from the Bucks game and right after this Lin started yelling at him for NOT EVER PLAYING D.

The Knicks have 2 All Stars(Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire) and 2 potential All Stars(Jeremy Lin and Tyson Chandler).

However, SHAT decided to go into the season 20 lbs overweight, and JELLO decided to try out for the 3 point contest instead of playing team basketball.

The ONLY way to fix this is to do the following:
1. Fire Mike Antoni. This guy has no idea how to coach a team. He wants to force JELLO and SHAT to coexist, when it's obvious they don't and probably never will. The Melo duo experiment failed with Iverson, and it's failing with Whackmire.
2. Trade Anthony. Right now, his stock is still high, because teams are assuming he's just in a slump and will snap out of it. Many people also think he's just playing hurt or that he just needs the right system. Now is the time to shop him around. If the Knicks wait until next year, he will be an expiring contract, and teams will only offer junk to get him.
3. Make Jeremy Lin and Tyson Chandler the focal point of the offense. SHAT needs to squat down and watch how it's done. Then he can get his points here and there in the flow of the sewer.
4. Start Steve Novak. The Knicks need a guy who can make the defense go out on the perimeter. That will open things up for SHAT and Chandler.
5. Use midlevel exception to get a replacement for SHAT. This guy is going to finish washing up by 2014. The Knicks need a replacement.
6. Continue to develop Shumpert.

I agree ecept trading Melo

As bad as Melo is playing, he does not have a coach telling him what to do and even Jordan needed Phil Jackson to coach him to some titles.

We need a coach that can light a fire up the asses of these useless million dollar players.

Amare is awful right now, his defense is a laughing stock and he needs a coach to bench him when it looks like he doesnt even want to be out there.

I can't stand this coach anymore

What does it take to get a coach fired?

Nah. This pic is from todays game against Philly...

Oh crap your right. This same thing happens every night though. Stat doesn't think he needs to defend guards after our guards get screened. Chandler consistently yells at him for it to no avail. Damn I get frustrated even thinking about it.

I agree 100%. Melo can succeed here because he CARES. Stat doesn't give a sh*t if we win or lose. He constantly smiles and jokes around after losses only to have Lin and Chandler walking around with their heads low. Half of Melo's problem's here are that the coach doesn't put him in a position to play good.

Rewatch the game from today, there was multiple shots of Amare smiling with Melo sitting there with his head down, UPSET. Stat doesn't give a sh*t and he hasn't gave a sh*t all season. He used a pussy as$ injury as an excuse to not practice all summer and now that he can practice he doesn't try to fix any of his problems.

All in all this falls on MDA for not coaching his stars and not coming up with a solution to help his guys succeed. There's a reason MDA's head was on the chopping block before Lin emerged, HE CAN'T COACH AND HE CAN'T handle our stars. He NEVER holds them accountable but he'll rip off the weaker players heads for small mistakes. That leads to hostility in the locker room.

MDA NEVER has a gameplan for our team. His plan is to have our guys go out and run 3 basic plays, all of them including the pick and roll and back screen to free out the guy on the baseline for the oop.

Once our opponents figure out those plays, our guys have no other options but ISO and WING IT which leads to turnover after turnover. Our opponents come into our game with the strategy to cover the pick and roll, attack Stat all day and when we help Stat kill us with the WIDE OPEN corner/wing 3's.

Are the people here defending Stat serious? The dude can't defend, especially not the pick and roll. He looks like a Stat-ue out there... UGH sorry for the rant, fire this dumbass coach already and just hope whatever new coach we get can get our guys to start playing like a team again.

Melo's contract has 2 further years on it btw it's not expiring next year.

We definitely need a new coach whether Antoni is good or not it's just not working. Bottom line.

I really wish we would get a new coach NOW, see what happens between now and the season's end and re-evaluate. If we could somehow trade STAT it would be amazing I just don't think it's even in the realms of possibility. The jury is out on Melo but this year he's been shocking. He's also Eddy Curry like in his physique which is a big concern.

nice follow up and I totally agree with your analysis of Mike no Dtoni....he never yells at Amare or Melo for mistakes that he yells at young players for. You yell at a young player when the veteran should not be making the mistake due to more experience? HE IS TOO SCARED TO HOLD HIS PLAYERS ACCOUNTABLE AND HIS PHILOSOPHY IS KILLING OUR TEAM

Before the start of the season, this is what I expected:
Carmelo Anthony would average 25 points on 45% shooting and 35% shooting from 3, to go along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
Amar'e Stoudemire would be averaging 22 points on 55% shoting and 8 rebounds.
Tyson Chandler would be averaging 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks on 50% shooting.
Jeremy Lin who?

What actually happened:
Jeremy Lin dropped 38 points on Kobe and led the team to a 7 game winning streak. He's averaging 15 points and 6 assists.
Tyson Chandler is averaging 11.4 points, 10 rebounds, 1.5 blocks on 69% shooting.
Amar'e Stoudemire is overweight, lost 80% of his lift on his legs, and is averaging 17 points, 8 rebounds, on 45% shooting. At one point in his mediocore season, he shot 41%.
Carmelo Anthony is overweight, seldom posts up, and chucks jump shots all day. He averages his lowest point per game total since his sophomore year and is shooting a career-low 40%. He's making 20 million dollars and is supposed to be in his prime, yet he looks like he's on his way to retirement.

I understand people want to be patient with Anthony, but we are 65% into the season. Even in last year's playoffs, he shot under 38% from the field. This is not a mini-slump. This is JELLO. Slumps don't last an entire season, folks.

1. Knicks are a train wreck.
2. Other teams know it and will not take Stat or Melo unless we give them away.
3. Even if not D'antoni's fault, he has lost this team, no one will listen to him anymore. Although, what other coach with this talent would have a losing record?
4. Lin is really a rookie and based on that and the teams mess he is a young PG with decent potential.
5. Chandler deserves better.

So, fire D'antoni, let Wodson take over, and if Stat & Melo continue to fail then work on getting some value for them in a trade.

Work on next year in getting JVG back if we can.

I'm at the point where I'd give Stat away. At least we can go into games with a chance to defend and a chance to win.

Carmelo was in the low to mid 30's prior to the last few games.

See 8-15 record and the torrential flood of losses since his return. We've spent more than half a season watching games lost as he gets his shot back.

You would think that a "superstar" would have at least been practicing in the off-season and working out.

I understand that once a guy gets married and has kids - half of them stop being as professional - and start eating crap and train less. But then again Carmelo has never made that college - to pro - transition and taking his athleticism to the next level. He is physically worse off then he was coming out of Syracuse.

Its another reason why he takes so many breaks on defense, and why he gives up intermittently in-game. Walking, or just pretending to Defense. Or having to foul - because its all a chain of events - starting with his physical condition.

Its also that poor physical condition that led to injuries. Being in good shape - hitting the gym, eating right - all prevent injuries and we are seeing the 3rd or 4th set of repercussions now that he has recovered.

He may need the entire regular season to get into competitive form and be able to defend as well as ISO and burn the clock and hopefully hit 1 shot for every 2-3 shots the other team hits in the same amount of time.

* I still am rooting that he will pick up the slack and start defending from the moment he steps onto the court til he gets off it - and not the lackadasical defense and poor attempts that lead to fouls. He needs to glue or strap himself onto his man.

2003-04-06-inside-melo.jpg

The different is he hasn't gained weight that does anything. Fat doesn't make him spin faster, or help him balance more in the air, or jump higher.

This is weight that has no function other then - to keep him warm. Another reason why he is having trouble dunking and isn't as explosive now. He's in mediocre shape for an NBA athlete. Another problem that it takes years of physical training for the body to mature when it comes to muscle maturity. The best he can do is lean out and lose the flab.

Don't believe me look at MJ as he entered the NBA and MJ in his final seasons with the Bulls. Lebron early on til now. Kobe early on til now. etc etc.

Guys a professional athlete being paid millions. Needs to take his work-ethic to the next level now or never. He isn't "super-star level" super-stars work harder then the pros.

Heads must roll to send a message.

Getting rid of either Stat or Melo in the middle of a shortened season is not the way to go. We are probably not going to get much in return.

Let MDA go. One less head to chop during the off-season.

Well above the Head Coach and the personnel, we need a new owner. We need someone that will do what ever it takes to win and not for cash. We need a Mark Cuban or Jerry Bust, an owner that will sign who ever or fire who ever in order to get the hardware.

How about Mark Zuckerberg? He is smart enough to invent something out of nothing. Maybe he will be smart enough to whip our boys into shape. If not, he will have enough money to buy out Miami heat and move their big three over to MSG.
