STAT's out indefinitely...

This is a bad bad loss. Indefinatly means from a few days to a few month.
Now that Stat was playing like himself again, we lose him indefinatly. Terrible news. Even if he comes back for playoffs, he wont be in playoffs shape.
Lets hope that he comes back soon, as nobody will replace him in the postseason. He is a difference maker.

What sucks is that we're basically stuck with him until next summer, only then can we amnesty his ass....
lets hope he delivers something up until then.
we can do a lot of good with that 23 mil he'll be making then

Thought amnesty was a one time deal which we already used on Billups.

I think between Jorts and Jordan we can almost make up what we lose from STAT. Its just up to the coaching staff to get those two guys ready to perform. Just from the little bit I've seen from Jordan I think he may be a better post defender than Amare. Jorts is tough but needs more discipline.

Hopefully STAT's bulging dik doesn't keep him out for the season.

Come on man... Seriously? Jorts can barely make an open layup now and the 3 point shot he used to have in the beginning of the season died when he hurt his wrist.

Jerome Jordan hasn't looked great in the few minutes he's played and that was against scrubs. IMO we really need to find a replacement for Stat if we want to make the playoffs.

I'm a little worried tbh.

1) He started to look sharper again and finally became some kind of asset to us again on offense

2) His contract is still very long and very nasty so an injured Amar'e on $20 mil. a year would hurt our cap tremendously....

3) Starting to get injury prone in only his second year with us? Wow, I didn't expect this at all....I thought he'd eventually struggle with injury, but only in his final season or second final season and not because of back injuries but because of knee issues.

This could really screw up our mid-term plan I hope they can get him back on track and healthy for the next 2-3 years...back injuries can become chronic and once that happens you're limited to 40-50 games a season playing at 70-80% because of no game sharpness due to the constant injury breaks.

If he needs surgery it's probably better to do it right now, give him all spring and summer to recover and come back in September/October.

Better than the half-hearted attempt we took last year where an injured Amar'e played at 50% and did more damage than good in the Playoffs.

Just get him back to full fitness, if it means season done for him so be it. He's got plenty of years left on his contract, would be stupid to burn him now, especially because his contract is not insured.

my bad i thought teams could amnesty more than once just not in the same offseason...

I'm pretty sure amnesty is not a one off but I believe there's a waiting period until you can use it again. I really can't remember but I believe it was 3-5 years. Where's LJ4ptPlay when you need him?!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. The forum clearly needs it.

Anyone ever heard of a guy named Larry Johnson? This was a long, long time ago before players stopped playing defense and called themselves 'Super Stars'. Anyway, Johnson played with chronic back injuries for years. And his injury was far more severe than a bulging disk. LJ's back issues ranged from a pinched nerve, back springs and a rupturing patellar tendon. Yet through all of this he still managed to help the Charlotte Hornets get 50 wins and went to help the Knicks make history as the first 8 seed to make it to the finals.

Also keep in mind that Galinari has laminotomy back surgery and he's come back nicely. So retirement talk is nonsense.
It wasn't that long ago, everyone should remember Grandmama, what I remember is that LJ lost a lot of his explosiveness after he started having back problems.

LJ is a perfect example of why we should be concerned about Stat's back. This from Wikipedia.

Johnson had entered the league as an explosive power forward, averaging over 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. However, after the injury to his back, Johnson was forced to develop an all-around game with an improved outside shot.

On October 10, 2001, Johnson announced his early retirement from basketball due to chronic back problems that had plagued him for several years, after his point production had decreased for three straight years.

Pretty sure it's a one off. Teams get to use it once during the new CBA, if you haven't used it there is no expiration but we shot our bullet with Billups.

Amare Stoudemire (back) will be out four weeks in a best-case scenario, a source tells the Daily News.
This report is from Monday night, so we're not taking it as gospel. On Tuesday, Stoudemire was scheduled to meet with a specialist in Miami to receive a second opinion. There's still no word on if this consultant recommended surgery. Either way, Amare's season is in real jeopardy as the Daily News' report suggests he'll need a month off even without surgery.

4 weeks minimum.

I think the amnesty deal was a one-time deal as well.

I stand corrected! Still I reckon STAT will be back, this season or next, to dominate again :crossfingers:

Lockout season, there are plenty of younger players that experienced tough injuries this year. NBA was desperate to play as many games as possible and that's way it turned into an "ugly" season full of struggle and injuries.

you guys have to relax he will be back soon and will be back to his best. Theyre professional athletes with world class physio and trainers and diets etc. The only time he would retire if he broke his neck or back! he will be back before the play-offs!

That's easily a best case scenario, but grounded in absolutely no reality.

A structural back injury, is a structural back injury.

I'm not sure how much of an advantage you have being a world class athlete when we're talking about the spinal column, vertebrae, and tissue between the vertebrae.

It's just gonna take time, time I don't that the team has, or can afford.
