Dan Gadzuric joins NYK, Bill Walker waived.

Looks like Coach Woody is rolling up his sleeves and getting ready for the playoffs. Good move but sorry to see Walker go b4 the season ended.

IMO there is one particular advantage of bringing Gadzuric:

Its just so disappointing, this does most likely mean Jeffries is hurt worse then we know. One injury after another, its really too bad. I dont know if we'll be able to have a roster like this years again. I feel like if we had Lin, a healthy Amare, a healthy Jeffries we might have been able to do something this year. Where the f*cks our luck at?

Gadzooks!

is the hottie Gadzooks' girlie? niiiiiiiice.

I've been a fan of Gadzurik since his UCLA days, when he pretty much dominated the NCAA.
here's some background:
http://www.uclabruins.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/gadzuric_dan00.html

he played pretty well for the Bucks, I remember him swatting some Knicks shots and bounding.

Bill Walker was not getting playing time, and he did nothing in the short stint he got recently.
with JR Smith on the team, there's absolutely no place for him, especially if he's not 100%.

if Jefferies is hurt worse than thought, this is a good move, but why o why is Jerome Jordan not getting run?
just don't understand, unless he blows in practice, because garbage time is the only time we see him.

we already scored with an NBA player from China doing good in the NBA,
perhaps our scouts see something Knicks can use in the playoffs?

it never hurts to have another big in this league.

This is exactly what worries me... once all the players mesh we would be one the leagues top teams, with a very deep bench.
Im still hopefull for a deep playoff run, I have a feeling all the players will come through and go hard in the post season.

Its hard for me to see a better roster next season.

WTF!? Really!? My memory of Gadzuric was that he was past time long ago in GS. Jefferies must be worse than advertised, which sucks!

It's not like we needed Walker exactly, but man, he's a damn sight better than Douglas. Who, by the way, we extended @ $2M+ :barf:

Quite the fan of Bill Walker, and I'm sure that Gadzuric will be an afterthought post doing absolutely **** all for us in the playoffs.

Desperate times desperate measures, I suppose.

LOL. Walker isn't better than Douglas. Sorry. All Walker can do is shoot 3's and he hasn't even done that well this year. Douglas at least can play defense.

Dan Gadzuric is a great post player that plays smart and above the rim. He is only 34 years old and is an excellent defender and is one of the best defensive big men IMO in the past 5 years. He can rebound like Shaq and defend like Howard. Don't know why more people aren't excited.

Gadzuric is actually half-Yugoslavian, so that makes him a beast mother trucker.

He should bring the Serbian approach his people have cultivated over the Yugoslavian wars of the early 1990s.

LOL..Dan Gadzuric?!?!? WTF is this guy supposed to provide? Tell me at least one discernible skill he possesses? Offensive rebounding? Maybe...But that's a stretch...Come on man, this guy's a stiff. He's good for 6 fouls and that's about it.

Hey, they got at least one part of this equation right and it's something I've been talking about for awhile now like a broken record: cutting Walker to open up the roster spot for a more useful player. But come on man, Dan Gadzuric? We couldn't have done better than that?

CA7 mentioned it early on in this thread --- what about Sean Williams? I love how Boston, arguably a better team than us for the moment, is on the verge of adding this guy (if they didn't add him already). Infinitely better signing than Dan Gadzuric imho...I LOVE that signing for Boston...This is what they got with Sean Williams: youth; big upside; better big man in every facet of the game on both ends than the journeyman Gadzuric; huge/game-altering shot-blocking potential (one discernible, NBA-ready skill, above-average NBA skill actually) and a guy that could be retained on the cheap for next year if he panned out (something we should be interested in considering we'll be over the cap to start off next yr)...Why couldn't we have targeted this guy? A few of us had him on our radar ever since Dallas released him..Before that even -- try since he was playing in Israel earlier in the yr and in the DL last year where he was a DL all-star and looked vastly improved.

I don't get it man. How 'bout Marcus Cousin, a 7' skilled big man I've been screaming about for like forever? I invite anyone on this board to youtube Marcus Cousin and then come back on here an tell me with a straight face that he's not a better player that Dan Gadzuric with a much higher skill level. Cousin's been available all year long btw... How about these guys: Jeff Adrien, Keith Benson, Chris Johnson who has NBA experience with the Celts and Portland (this dude actually played well in his brief stints with both clubs)...Adrien's a scrapper & tough as nails and Benson and Johnson are both legit shot-blockers/rim protectors...I mean if we were dead set on adding a veteran, why not Mehmut Okur? He's out there. Actually younger than Gadzuric and more skilled. Better rebounder, better offensive player by a mile...Why not give Jorts more time? If anything, I say commit to Jorts these last couple of games --- Jerome Jordan is a project but I think Harrellson can play in the NBA right now. He can shoot, he's tough, rebounds a little, plays smart D (Breen always used to comment on how Jorts, when he was seeing extended mins, very rarely bit on shot fakes and stood his ground -- he was right on that observation)...I mean this guy went for like 14 & 11 earlier this year on the road in Sac...Hopefully Woddy gives him a look here. I'd much rather see Jorts inherit Jeffries' time over Gadzuric.

Hard to get on Grunwald and co. -- they've done such a great job this year of building and adding talent to this roster, but this move I honestly don't get. Couldn't care less about cutting Walker. The man was useless. He was out of the rotation...All I wanted was a serviceable big or PG in exchange (regarding another PG, if it were up to me, either Matt Janning or Ben Hansbrough would've been a Knick a long time ago)...And I love how some on here thought Bill Walker, even though he wasn't even playing, was more valuable than Mike Bibby. I mean, honestly, how do you figure that? How do you feel about that now? With Lin out the rest of the way and Davis hurting and generally ineffective anyway, thank God for Mike Bibby..That's all I gotta say. Lin's out and Davis is a shell of what he used to be --- Bibby's our starting PG right now for better or worse)...Hey maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think we improved with Gadzuric. Isn't that the idea? To improve? The Celtics improved with Sean Williams in my book...Wasted opportunity for us here with this move.

I'm saying, Gadzuric balled hard with Milwaukee for a few years back in the mid-2000s.

That's something.

Guy will swat the shot, he'll grab a board, he'll dunk it for you (can't teach height), he'll hit a free-throw if you need him to.; guy's a baller.

He will give you a lot more than Billy "Wack Sauce" Walker, I'll tell you that.

Move makes sense

Bill Walker is a nice role player.

However, the move makes sense, because:

1) Walker's skills are not unique (Shumpert is a better defender and slasher, Novak is a better three-point specialist)

2) Backup defensive/rebounding center is an absolute need, even if you like Jerome Jordan and Josh Harrellson (which I do)

3) Mike Bibby is an absolute need with Davis and Lin still unhealthy (much better playoff option at PG than Douglas or Shumpert are)

4) It also tells us that Jared Jeffries will not be close to 100% until after he has surgery.

I still think we should have made a move for a Ramon Sessions type player.

The upcoming draft is weak in PGs but maybe we can find a decent backup PG type player late in the first round for cash and/or a current role player?

I like Bill Walker as well, but he wasn't going to be doing much this post-season anyways. It was time to move on.

When one of the main reasons you been losing from the teams you most likely gonna face in the playoffs is rebounding it's a good move adding a big man.

We couldn't afford to cut Bibby with Lin injured and Davis still trying to get 100% healthy so Bill Walker was next.

Jorts has been pretty weak in the second half, Gadz is a good veteran rebounder and post defender with a little Kurt Thomas jumpshot...

Bill Walker was a very talented player with bad knees and not much guidance, motivation or work ethic. Anthony Randolph case, a lot of talent, but wasn't put to work.

Sad when things like that happen.

I wish the best to Bill Walker and appreciated all he did for NYK.

Word bro!

He's talking like we just signed Bill Russel :teeth:

I still don't get it why we didn't sign The Answer after Lin's injury. Is Woody really going to play Toney Douglas 20 mins a game in the Playoffs?????

And I bet Spree could do a better job at 42 in the Playoffs than Fields.

We have a lot of dead wood on this roster when it comes to the Playoffs.

Douglas and Fields have both proven that they can't play in the Playoffs. They were absolutely shocking last year.

Jeffries seems to be hurt. Bibby and Davis ain't the answer at PG (pretending Davis can stay healthy for more than a week and play in the first round).

Jorts has never played in the Playoffs, Novak played a total of 27 Playoff-minutes....

Apart from Chandler, Melo, Smirh, STAT and likely Shump our roster is absolutely NO Playoff roster. Way too many weak spots.

I say we should have signed Iverson and Mike James as backup guards and Sean Williams or Jermaine O'Neal as backup centers/forwards.

PG situation:

Bibby looks like a liability
Davis liability
Douglas huge liability

SG situation:

Shumpert should be allright
Smith should be allright if he doesn't hit a shooting slump

SF situation:

Melo our franchise player
Fields huge liability

PF situation:

Amar'e let's hope he'll be allright
Novak liability in the Playoffs due to his defense and he won't get many open shots. It's the Playoffs!
Harrelson has never played a Playoff game

C situation:

Tyson our second franchise player
Gadzuric I don't know what we'll get from him
Jordan Has never played a Playoff game and the coaches don't like hi for whatever reason.

That's our Playoff roster as it stands folks.

5 players we can rely on (pretending Amar'e is fit).

That ain't gonna cut it.

Look at our point guard situation...that's scary. Our bench doesn't look good either for the Playoffs apart from J.R. Smith.
