    Default Novak

We all know what he is capable of when given just a sliver of daylight so like you my frustration grows with each invisible game he plays. Now I think the problem is that we are not getting him open like the Bulls do with Korver or Rip and the Celts with Jesus S. We don't set regular or double screens for this guy to get open but I wanted to hear what some of you guys thought. Some ppl at my job are more upset with him then with his team getting him open so I wanted to see what posters on here felt.

We all know he can't create his own shot and gets incredibly nervous when he has to dribble so a situation i think could work EVERY time is Amar'e and Melo setting a double screen for him. What defender in the playoffs in their right mind would leave those 2 and if they did then there's a mismatch to exploit.

    Thoughts?

Honestly, im kind of happy he has faded in the playoffs. Obviously that sounds terrible but it may be placing a doubt in the mind of GM's as to his effectiveness in a situation that doesn't completely suit his needs.

Less GM's willing to take a chance on him = more chance of him staying

I see what you're saying but GM's are smarter then you're giving them credit. They know that with a few screens this man will be a huge threat all over again... especially at 6'10".

I agree it was more of a pipe dream to be honest. I do know Novak was very appreciative for us giving him a chance off waivers and loves it here in NYC. I just don't know whether he could say no to a multi 3M/year deal, especially because the vet's min isn't enough to set yourself for life.

    I agree.
The reason we are down vs MIA is 80% because Novak isn't getting shots.

It won't be enough for GMs not to consider him though... If a team has $3-4+ MIL in free cap space... their gonna run to offer him a deal.

Grunwald MUST find a way to keep him, I believe he will, its what he does.

The fact that Woodson cannot find a way to get Novak an open 3 is mind boggling......If Novak can sign 3 years 9 million he would be nuts not to take it.....the Knicks do have TD they can trade away to grab an extra 2 million...

You won't need 3-4 mils to retain Novak. He will be more than happy to settle for half that.

Novak was a scrub for 2 years before Knicks gave him a shot. He played for LAC, Dallas, and SA, but just didnt fit into SA and Dal systems. I posted on another thread on how he strived under D'Antoni system.

If Woodson doesnt use more sophisticated offensive plays or without penetrations, Novak will not be a factor against a great defensive team.

Novak practices so much at 3P. For the last two years, he is the only player in the league who shot better beyond than he did within the arc.

Wish they would use Novak more as he can be devastating when used properly. I just love it when he throws those 3-pointers successively. Crowd goes wild. It's when he does it that we pull away from the opponent.

    Bull****......settle for half...
If the Knicks can offer 1.5 million minimum for one year and another team can offer 3 years for 9 million he will 100% leave.....The guy needs to take care of his financial future......Yes he loves it hear but its a business and Novak is not a moron....

You need to look at his career stats and whether he will fit the team.

His career PPG is 4.9 including this year 8.9 PPG.

I dont see any team will offer more than 2 mils to a player with career averge of 4.9 PPG, unless their system is similar to D'Antoni's. Then again, we don't know how some of GM's think.

^^^Every team in the league can offer him the minimum, if you want him your offer better be over the minimum. After the year he had, anyone in ranked 20-30 in 3 pt shooting is going to want him. No one is going to sign him to Jason Kapano money but I bet plenty of teams would offer the mini-MLE or part of their MLE to get a guy that can break open a game like he can.

i think min for a 6-year player is 1.1 mil and 2 mils is almost doubling that.

We all know Novak is a liability if he can't score. If he is a better defender, more teams will be interested for over 2 mils.

I agree, 2-2.5M is a fair salary for him. Just don't think the Knicks can keep him if they only have vet min slots under the cap next season.

I like Novak but the Heat is exposing his weaknesses. All you have to do is put a body on him and he panics. If all you can do is shoot the 3 ball then you become a liability.

I think I saw him lay the ball up one time since he's been here...every other shot was from behind the arch or near it... He struggles with the handle, he's not a shot blocker and he isn't a pressure defender. I've seen melo, stat, davis, bibby, and especially J.R. pass the ball to novak numerous times but the Heat would swarm him...forcing him to give up the rock. This is a problem in my book.

If you can't dribble out of one on one coverage or create some space for an shot...you hurt the team more than help it. Novak is a specialist player that needs Melo and Stat to be playing at a high level in order for Novak to be freed up...to do what he does best.

I doubt he's going anywhere anytime soon, thou. Remember what happen to S.Williams. He was our previous sharp shooter but also did other things as well. Now he's back to being a nobody. He' ll take whatever we give him.

I say if he wants to much let him go, he's terrible if he's not shooting 3's, he's totally useless.Use that cash, to get a defender and rebounder, we get killed in second chance shots when Novak is out there.
