Was talking cheap players we could possibly add to this roster on Tommy Dee's blog yesterday and another poster brought up CDR. I thought that was an excellent call. I forgot about this guy... He played well in the NBA for the Nets and Milwaukee. 6'7", real crafty with the ball, aggressive as hell going to the basket (this guy can go get his shot--and a quality shot--whenever he wants to) and he's a better shooter (esp. from mid-range) and athlete than people think. He went to go play in Italy (Virtus Bologna) when the lockout hit. Wound up staying over there the entire season and played well. I like him -- dude can play. Very underrated talent. Similar to Landry Fields in some ways only with superior offensive skills across the board (aggression, jumpshot, handle, take to the basket)..I think he's got enough offensive skill to eventually be a go-to guy in the NBA...No question this guy would be a quality addition on the cheap. Any thoughts?

I like him, versatile player.

I met him in Pathmark when he was on line. Seems like a chill dude.

Oh yeah? Where about? In NJ when he was playing there? Nice. I've seen some interviews with him and you're right - he does seem chill.

I like his game a lot. My friend Al dismissed him as nothing more than a "street baller" today. LOL. All due respect to my buddy who knows his talent but I think this guy's more than that...He can play. Definitely has a pro game offensively.. At 6'7" he's got enough size to play 2 & 3. Doesn't look terrible defensively too from what I've seen...The main thing with this guy is his one on one skills which are very impressive -- best thing about his game. Outstanding one on one shot creator/maker. Plays with a nice confidence about him, almost a swagger at times. Be a nice change of pace from Fields who way too often defers to others (to a fault) and plays too passive...I think he compares very favorably to JR Smith actually, at least in terms of being a wing with nice size that's not bashful and can go get (and make) his own shot whenever he needs to. I actually think he could be more consistent than JR if given the same opportunity. CDR's offense feels much more high % to me over JR's game. JR very talented but way too often settles from lower % long distance shots -- CDR looks to carve you up more and get closer to the rim. He'd be a nice replacement for Smith as a 6th man if he walks (tell you what, I'm interested even if we retain Smith). I also like that he's proven at the NBA level somewhat already. Don't get me wrong I like a lot of these other 2/3 wings I've been talking about lately a good deal (Sylven Landesberg, Jamelle Horne, Scotty Hopson, etc.) but truth be told, none of them have any NBA experience. CDR does. Even played at a very high level in the NBA at times. Look at that one clip against Miami above -- tell me that wasn't impressive. He did that against Lebron & Wade -- kept taking it right to those guys in that highlight clip, no hesitation at all (not to mentioned he brought it against them on the other end too) . He willed his team to a great comeback victory that particular night...The more I think about this dude and what he brings to the table the more I want him here.

I met him in the Fort Lee one, which is now an Asian supermarket (still gotta check that one out). It was in the summer I think, before he started playing his season with the Bucks. Maybe he still had a home there. I tweeted later on to him about it and he said something back.

I met Anthony Morrow in the Edgewater one this past December. He extended his hand, but didn't seem like he wanted to talk. Right after that he was looking down the aisles with his shopping cart and looked lost LOL.

I haven't seen him play much since being traded from the Nets. I like the way he played on the Nets offensively more than I like the way J.R. has played offensively on the Knicks. I like J.R., but with all that ability, there's no excuse for him to be shooting that many threes. Attack the basket, open up shooters, inspire teammates to attack.

Funny about Morrow. LOL..Never had a problem with Morrow until I saw him getting a little chippy with a few of our guys this yr -- started in pre-season and it carried over into the regular season a few times. Melo and Shump both got into it with this dude a couple of times this year. Don't know for sure but I got the feeling that he's a bit of a talker..

I agree with you on JR -- I like him too and on his talent alone I'd be willing to take a chance and give it another go with him. Price has got to be right though...If he's looking for the whole MLE let's say, then it's adios muchachos. Looked like Woodson was able to reach him a little -- Woody called him out in the papers after the whole twitter thing and asked him to grow up a little bit and it looked like he responded well to that. Maybe he finally grows up under Woodson..If he walks though, we really need to be prepared. We could very well lose Smith (I can absolutely see some team offering him more than his $2.5M option---do we match anything over that amount? How much over do we go?), Novak AND Fields and there's a good chance Shump may not even play next year at all. Knicks mgmt. needs to prepare for that possibility. Hopefully we're thinking about replacements and improving our depth at the 2 & 3. There's quite a few possibilities out there and I believe we can do it relatively cheap for the most part.

Poor choice.
Not a 3pt threat
Not a lock down defender
Not a passer.

We need a Thabo type SG.

Totally disagree. I think CDR would be an excellent pick-up for us. Ok, yeah, he's not a great 3-pt shooter, but so what? Neither are a lot of top scorers in this league -- Melo, Kobe, Wade, Lebron...If he can make his 2-pt FGs at a high clip, which I believe he can, then it minimizes the fact that he's not a pure 3-pt shooter (not terrible btw -- he actually has good shooting mechanics, much better than Landry Fields by comparison). This issue would further be made moot if we brought back Novak or a similar 3-pt shooting specialist (Ryan Wittman comes to mind--this kid's a GREAT shooter and we could get him dirt cheap), drafted Kim English at 48 (46% from 3 this past season at Mizzou) AND pick up a backup PG that could also hit 3s (Ben Hansbrough, Matt Janning, Demetri McCamey, Curtis Jerrells). If we brought in a combination of those players, it wouldn't matter that CDR's not a great 3-pt shooter. We'd be adding more than enough of that element with these other guys..Also I'd rate him at least adequate as far as his defense and passing goes. Doesn't look to be glaringly deficient in either area...What I'd bring him in for is his scoring prowess, possibly to fill a vacated 6th man spot if Smith leaves. He'd slide in perfectly there.

The Sefalosha-type you're talking about doesn't look to be out there. Who do you have in mind exactly?? We already have that type of guy with Shumpert (and Shump's better imo) albeit I get the feeling he may be out for longer than they think (can't help but think of Kelenna Auzibuike and his lengthy rehab process). Lately, the more I've thought about Shump, the more I think there's a real possibility he misses the entire season next yr. I pray I'm wrong...Tough guy to replace. I just don't see any wing players out there in our price range that we can pick up that play the defense that Shump & Sefalosha can. Those guys are rare...It's comforting to know we already have a guy like that -- we're just gonna have to weather the storm and wait for him to get back...Speaking of Kelenna, if he's healthy, maybe he's a guy we look at again. I know before the injury he was a very underrated athlete that could really shoot the rock. Underrated defender too.. I know he finally made it back and was playing in the DL last yr before being promoted by Dallas toward the end of the season. He could be a possibility perhaps... 6'6" PG/SG Julyan Stone is another possibility provided Den. doesn't pick up his team option for next yr at $762,195. I think they bring him back though. I know we supposedly had interest in him at one point before the Nuggets grabbed him. Looks like that kid can play defense...And I think 6'7" Jamelle Horne, better know for his slashing game and 3-pt shooting, is actually an underrated defender with his athleticism and length. Other than that I can't really think of any other 6'5"+ standout defenders we could get cheap. Slim pickens. Those guys don't grow on trees.

What you fail to understand is that us having a 3pt shooter spaces the floor.

Thats why our offense struggled at times because Fields at the 2 position limited our offense and crowded the spacing, very little ball movement.

Douglas Robert's is a poor 3pt shooter, so how can he help ball movement? He doesn't. He's a slashing/mid range guy and we already have Melo doing that so why do we CDR for it? We don't.

What I fail to understand??? Seriously WTF is with you, dude?

Next time you decide to take me to task on something, as you've done in the past, at least take the time out to completely read my rebuttal to whatever you may have said to me. If you bothered to do that beforehand, you would've noticed that I IDENTIFIED the 3-pt shooting issue and gave my opinion on how we go about enhancing our outside shooting for next year. Again, AS I SAID:

• We bring back Novak or an equivalent 3-pt shooting specialist. I'd go with Ryan Wittman. Would come cheaper than Novak and I'd argue that he'd be an upgrade anyway -- the stroke looks about the same (this kid's absolutely LETHAL from behind the arc) plus he's more mobile than Steve & can put it on the floor a little better than he can. I like Novak and would welcome him back with open arms but I wouldn't overpay to keep him esp. knowing I could bring in this kid Wittman for a fraction of the cost.

• We draft Kim English at 48 (or move up slightly to ensure we get him). 6'6" SG that shot 46% from deep this yr at Missouri. I've been talking about this guy and his 3-pt shooting for weeks on this board, well before nbadraft.net had him as our pick.. There might be a few other guys that possibly have more upside when we pick but no one with this kid's ability to shoot the ball. Sometimes it's better to go up there and hit a single or a double with a draft pick (esp. considering this team is built to win now, we need a 2 that can shoot and space the floor--agreed, AND the fact that we're picking 48th, not 5th) instead of looking to swing for the fences and striking out. For what we need, English would be perfect here.

• Pick up a cheap backup PG that can shoot --- Ben Hansbrough (Big East POY 2 yrs ago) and Matt Janning, even Demetri McCamey are all very effective 3-pt shooters in my book. Even a guy like Curtis Jerrells, who doesn't have as pure a stroke as these other 3, can take and make 3s. The other parts of Jerrells' game are very intriguing though -- lefty, ultra-quick, big-time scoring potential and he can facilitate. Dude reminds me of Brandon Jennings...Darius Johnson-Odom with PG skills.

To recap, say we added Novak (or Wittman), English and Ben Hansbrough at backup point. You mean to tell me that wouldn't be enough 3-pt shooting for next year's squad? Come on now. Of course it would. We add those shooters, we could easily slide CDR into JR Smith's role and come out ahead of the game. Way ahead...Wouldn't matter that he doesn't shoot 3s. Plus, like I said, it's not like CDR is God-awful shooting 3s. He's not. He can make 'em. Probably a better 3-pt shooter than Fields. I'm going 'glass half full' with CDR all the way -- focusing on what he does well: at 6'7" he's got enough size to play 2 & 3 (just like with JR---when Melo goes out, CDR could slide over (or play the 2) and we'd still have a top scoring threat on the floor), very good shot creator/maker (on JR Smith's level imo, could even turn out to be more consistent over the long haul), he'd come cheaper that Smith, and he's got NBA experience.

I'm talking about swapping out Novak, Baron/Bibby, Fields and JR Smith (good possibility that all of these guys are goners---I want them to prepare for this) for Ryan Wittman, Ben Hansbrough, Kim English and Chris Douglas-Roberts. In this scenario, I'd argue that we would upgrade the talent level, upgrade the outside shooting, get younger and remain mindful of the salary cap by not going overboard on contracts for Novak, Smith, Fields and a back-up PG. Outside of Bibby & Baron, I'd welcome any of these other guys back but it would have to be on my terms if I'm Grunwald. Otherwise, good luck to those guys -- on to plan B.

Oh and btw, you still haven't said who you'd bring in as a "Thabo type SG." Who do you have in mind for that role, pal? Tell us.

I forgot about CDR....did he get injured?

For cheap I would def go after him, but that might make Landry Fields irrelevant because of his poor outside shooting.

I forgot about him too -- thought he was still on the Bucks. Apparently he went to go play in Italy for the lockout. Had a productive season over there from what I can tell:

For Virtus Bologna: 27 mins, 12.3 ppg, 52.5% 2pt FG, 32.5% 3pt FG, 76.3% FT

The man can play -- he's 6'7" and very skilled offensively. Very crafty...There's definitely a role for him on this team. We'd be lucky to have him.

As a 3-year NBA player (2 seasons with the Nets, one with the Bucks) our offer would have to start at $885,120 I believe. That's nice value for CDR -- even if we had to pay a little more to get him, say in the $1M-1.2M range. I'd give this guy a 3-yr, $3.6M contract to come play here. Absolutely. He's not even a guy we'd have to bring in for evaluation to get a closer look, i.e. summer league, etc..We already know he can play and at a high level at times. He's been productive wherever he's been. If we gave this guy the same 27 mins a game backing up the 2 & 3 positions (maybe even a starting role at SG which I just might offer him if that's what it took), he could easily duplicate the numbers he put up in Italy imo. Good chance he might even be able to eclipse those numbers if given even more responsibility -- starting 2G, 35 mins a game, etc.

Relax little guy.
What you failed to understand is the Knicks weakness as a roster. Passing and Floor spacing, ball security and also shot selection. The defense is great, rebounding can improve.
You also seem to not understand what the Knicks REALLY need and what they already have.

Novak is a great 3pt shooter, but we won't survive with just Novak. We need another guy who can stretch the floor.
Chris Douglas Roberts isn't that man.

We need PASSING. Douglas Roberts is a SG/SF who relies on coming off screens and slashing. Douglas Robert averages 2 assist per 36 minutes. Its not terrible, but we already have scoring dominant players on this team. We don't need another.

CDR also has a low rebounding rate at 3 rebounds per 36 minutes. Why downgrade from Landry Fields? Atleast Fields can rebound and has more intangibles on the court even though Fields sucks.

CDR is a D-League talent. He couldn't keep a role on a ****ty New Jersey team when he was a rookie, and he failed in MIL when they were also crappy. '
You seem to be fascinated with D-League talent...Ben Hansbrough, Matt Janning, and Demetri McCamey ? What is their resume besides NCAA? You would fail entirely as a GM putting all your eggs in one basket for unproven underdeveloped and inexperienced players. Be wiser.

Kim English interests me but DeQuan Cook also had a similar career to this guy.

As for the Thabo type SG, Raja Bell is one who comes to mind but even though Raja Bell is one of my favorites, he's close to retirement.

Lmao, metros right though.... I like CDRs game but hes not the right fit for that valuable roster spot for our team. Everyone can have their own opinion though no need to catch miami heat over someone disagreeing.
