Stop thinking JR Smith is going anywhere, his game too like Carmelo Anthony's style to let go. Coming off the bench as 6th man or even starting along side melo while Shumpert is rehabbing. These two players Smith & Anthony have that chemistry and could feed off each other like LeBron & Wade; just sayin!
For $2.8M a 120% raise to re-sign for one year so Knicks will then be able to sign JR to a larger and longer contract thereafter being his bird rights will kick in is the plan for both the team & JR.
JR can play minimal minutes at Point Guard, his defense is NOT that bad and can improve under Woodson.
Surrounding other talent that can mesh with the likes of Anthony, Lin, Smith & Chandler needs to be the focus. A trade here or there, acquire draft picks or players need to be front and center of managements priorities.
Other players that will be back most likely and will allow Smith & Anthony for freedom to do what they do are Steve Novak & Jeremy Lin.
Novak is a shooter - deadly accurate from outside <-- he needs to elevate his role on defense to be more effective.
Lin pushes tempo where Anthony & Smith can find freed up space to create on offense. Lin needs to improve his ball handling skills along with passing. Is he really starter material? or Is he a marketing tool? Who knows, we shall see.
