The Knicks remain confident he will re-sign with them for the 20-percent raise that is allowable, according to a source. With the raise, Smith can make close to $2.8 million next season on a one-year deal with the Knicks, who donít have to use their mid-level exception... Had he opted in, Smith would have made just $2.5 million... Smith prefers a one-year deal because that would give him Bird rights next summer. This would allow him to sign a long-term deal at a much higher rate."

JR Smith is only good to use for trade bait at a cheap price $2M per....we did not need JR services....signing JR was actually a waste.
I wouldve rather kept Walker & Balkman (outside/inside) services.

And yes, I wouldve rather we use a 3rd season Toney Douglas low-turnover ratio bringing up the ball, better decision making at getting bench players involve, better shot selection percentage, and 10 times better on the defensive end....rather then watch JR fancy dribble in one spot throwing up air ball and rocket shots at the basket with no follow up or trips to the foul line, and never passing the ball to an open Tyson, Amare, or Novak.

I would rather give Nate Robinson the league minimum or $2M per, to replace Shump at the 2 spot, and backup Lin at the 1 spot.
I would rather have a backcourt of PG-Lin, SG-Fields, Combo-Nate, and Combo-TD next season.....if Melo dont like any of these players to FF-ing bad, let him ask to be traded....I would rather pay Deron Williams all that money to be on a roster with Lin/Shump/Fields/Amare/and Tyson Chandler any day of the week.

Denver Nuggets garbage (Melo/JR) is not our treasure....No one could say the same about the winning-players we gave to the Denver Nuggets....what was Denver's record this season without no defense Iso-Melo & Iso-JR???

Which Toney Douglas are you talking about??? If Douglas did everything you mentioned, he'd be in the rotation and not rotting on the end of the bench. Go back and watch the games man. He was usually horrible.

Wake-up! every player was horrible in the "ISO-Melo" offense....8-15 record.
Stats 2010-11 MVP performance in the "ISO-Melo" offense has the majority of the fans wanting him traded.

    Funny coincidence....Billups/Lin/Davis injured for postseason

Kiyaman with a full 82 and Woody it will be different in terms of players sticking to rotation roles. T Doug and Walker are not on the same planet as JR Smith let alone Corey Brewer.

Maybe I have on beer goggles when I am watching MSG idk lol

this group was just thrown on the floor last year. new group of role players with no training camp. plus a coaching change.. let jr work into the offense and hopefully control himself... he reminds me much of russell westbrook because when hes on; hes ON. and when he's of; hes OFF (and usually jacks up shots).. give him a 2 year deal..his superstar shooting (at times) will be worth it

Stop thinking JR Smith is going anywhere, his game too like Carmelo Anthony's style to let go. Coming off the bench as 6th man or even starting along side melo while Shumpert is rehabbing. These two players Smith & Anthony have that chemistry and could feed off each other like LeBron & Wade; just sayin!

For $2.8M a 120% raise to re-sign for one year so Knicks will then be able to sign JR to a larger and longer contract thereafter being his bird rights will kick in is the plan for both the team & JR.

JR can play minimal minutes at Point Guard, his defense is NOT that bad and can improve under Woodson.

Surrounding other talent that can mesh with the likes of Anthony, Lin, Smith & Chandler needs to be the focus. A trade here or there, acquire draft picks or players need to be front and center of managements priorities.

Other players that will be back most likely and will allow Smith & Anthony for freedom to do what they do are Steve Novak & Jeremy Lin.

Novak is a shooter - deadly accurate from outside <-- he needs to elevate his role on defense to be more effective.

Lin pushes tempo where Anthony & Smith can find freed up space to create on offense. Lin needs to improve his ball handling skills along with passing. Is he really starter material? or Is he a marketing tool? Who knows, we shall see.

that would be stupid at this point, trying to acquire Mayo when Anthony & Smith have chemistry one less thing to worry about. Acquiring other ex Denver Nuggets that can be useful to work with both Melo & JR should be a focus for short term, not revamping the entire teams core.
