Lin apparently signed $40M offer sheet from Houston. NY have 3 days to match

Fundamentally Sound
I am amazed at how many posters are agreeing with dickhead RealcHeat, as if Linsanity never happened. NO ONE thought Lin was the real deal until he KEPT ON LINNING!! without STAT, without Melo. he was the one who dimed Novak into the 3-point specialist. He's the one who fills the seats in the garden and every other venue Knicks play in. He's the one with the top-selling shirt in the NBA, responsible for multi-markets to buy in to MSG programming. etc.

The Knicks need a PG like Lin, he knows the team, knows Wood son, he's a VERY HARD WORKER, a VERY SMART PLAYER who can only improve his game.

this nonsense about PG being a dime a dozen... where were the PG's when Duhon was running the show? where were they before Lin hit the scene?
these are stupid ignorant remarks, my friends!

$30M + over 4 years works out to $7.5M/per. I think Lin is worth it.
Dolan knows it.

f*ck everyone!

Agreed.

Well said.

was just gonna post that, this dude is looking to get $$$$ and i dont blame em someone (including us) will pay. at some point if the money gets ridiculous we should consider the sign-and-trade and look for a solid PG to bring it. who then? D.J augustin? like his game and can hit the outside 3, still 26 and with kidd off the bench great mentor. what can happen PG is our question mark the bench of novak and smith will stay intact but its the starting PG that remains our big question.

Wake the HELL-UP....Lin-SANITY filled helluva lot of seats in our oponents empty stadiums....Lin-Sanity sold over $10M dollars of products in Toys R Us in one week.
Lin-Sanity is a high selling product....for how long? it does not matter b/c bussiness censors expectation of Lin-Sanity 2012-13 season will bring in a profit of $50M+ in one season.
So WTFU before doing the $$$ math on a player...

Sorry Kiya but I live in Chicago so I understand that marketing $$$$ don't equal wins. Just ask the Cubbies. They sell lots of cute, blue hats with C's, but haven't won a World Series in over a century. History cannot repeat itself meaning Knicks and cap hell. We just freed ourselves of Isiah overpaying point guards. Remember "STARBURY"? How about Stevie Franchise? Remember the losing seasons that followed? PG are a dime a dozen. Our money is invested in the front court where it belongs. Now that's good business.:)

 After being cut by 3 different teams and Cheerleading on Dantoni's bench for awhile i don't blame him either. + his best buddy Landry fields just got a whopping deal, he wants that mulah!!

But honestly i don't care if he did have some impressive games that sparked "LINSANITY" this dude only played like what 25 games and is seeking more than 31MILL :teeth: that's WILD.

I would have been all up in Goran and his handlers' ears, and sell him on asking for a S&T to NYK.

I don't blame Lin either, but at some point...I mean...****. When it gets to the point that you've played 35 games total in your career, and you're about to make a mil per game you've played...if you can pull it off, more power to you, but I dunno if I wanna be the one writing the checks.

It seems like us Knicks fans are always on one side of the spectrum, or the other. No middle ground. Either everyone we have is expendable, he can't play, etc. Or we fall head over heels for a guy, and let it cloud our judgement.

I am not saying Lin is a scrub, I'm not saying I don't want the Knicks to keep him...but DJ Augustin averaged 14 and 6 in 2010-11 in 82 games. Not a chance in hell DJ gets $32M+. Lin averaged very similar numbers in 35 games, and teams are falling all over themselves to get him, and the Knicks have painted themselves into a corner where they're going to have to match.

Even those that have complete an unwavering faith in Lin has to see that this is sort of ridiculous, right?

seriously like the dude has to realize 31 mill might be the most he can get. 25 games to 31mill is genius, still has to prove himself worthy of that contract. but in my opinion if the money gets to be much s&t and get value for him. draft pick trade exception, solid players. and we sign DJ. just a thought

Why would he sign a 6 yr $36M deal if the Rockets offered him (hypothetically) a 4 yr $40M deal?

Because well let's be honest, we're talking about NYC, capital of the world. Money is important but he should sit and think it over. Just because Lebron was too scared doesn't mean Lin will be.

They need to match offer and resign he makes the team fun to watch, he has huge potential and watching the run they did was the most fun Knicks basketball in over 10 years sad to say. If they don't I might just become a Nets fan man. I can't believe I'm saying that but I'm tired of our management making stupid ass moves. Giving too much in Melo trade, recently including Shump in Nash deal, going for these ancient players, now we got Kidd. Kidd overrated and was surrounded by talent last few years @ Mavs. He's not a good shooter anymore and he's slow now. At least with B Diddy he had the swag factor. I prefer Felton, Aaron Brooks if we could have got him, or Scott Machado. I've seen Machado play in person, queens kid can ball. I don't buy him having bad training camp or whatever they say, look what he did in college, his numbers don't lie.

But anyway if Knicks don't resign Lin then yeah.. going to be pissed. Let's stick with a lineup for once please.

it's not like Lin is asking for the $$$. it's his f*cking agent, the bane of professional sports, who's trying to squeeze every last dollar he can out of respective ballclubs, so he can pocket his %. what's a Lin to do... say no?

+!

Lin is being totally pro at this point. And why should he front like he is married to us -- not like we have exactly acted like he is some top priority to us.

I will say this, I think Lin is a smart dude. And he will end up in NYC unless *we* truly **** the bet to soggy proportions.

A lot of NBA players get donked by their agents, and lock up a bit of extra cheese that's one move away, instead of playing chess, and seeing multiple moves down the road that could dwarf that numer (endorsements, the effect of winning or being on a quality team in a big city).

EG, an agent who didnt care about making money himself, but making money/fame for his client would do stuff like this time to time:

Convince Kevin Garnett to have re-signed with the Celtics for a vet minimum type salary.

@WojYahooNBA: Offer sheet for Lin will pay him $5M in year one, $5.2M in year two and $9.3M in years three and again in team option year four, source says.

Well, doesn't sound as bad as I expected, IMO it's 99.9% certain we'll match, $9.3M in year three means $64M payroll in four players according to Wojnarowski.
