Orlando Summer League

Action kicked off today at 11 am - Orlando vs. Brooklyn:

The two best players on the floor so far in this first game are Justin Harper and Kyle O'Quinn, 2 bigs for Orlando. Harper's a dynamite shooter - a true stretch 4. He's connected on every outside jumper he's put up so far. Even showed a little ability to put it on the floor and post up...And this Kyle O'Quinn is impressive. 6'10" 240-ish physical PF out of Norfolk State. Orlando picked this guy in the 2nd round right after us at 49...Nice touch from 15' and he's got a few blocks so far, two on back to back Jeff Foote shot attempts in one sequence. Doing a good job on the glass so far as well. The Knicks were mistaken when they said they didn't see a rotation player in this draft 48-60. O'Quinn looks like he's good enough to make the Magic roster. Big 1st half for this kid. Andrew Nicholson looks good for Orlando as well. Very skilled inside/outside big. Orlando might very well lose Howard here but with Nicholson, Justin Harper (Cleveland's 2nd round pick last year, #32 overall -- don't know why the Cavs gave up on this dude -- they suck and this guy can play) and O'Quinn, they've really restocked along their frontline. Made it easier to give up on Ryan Anderson (maybe they see Justin Harper as a replacement)...Really interested to see if DeQuan Jones gets any time for Orlando. 6'8" SG/SF undrafted out of Miami that never put up good/consistent numbers in college but he's an elite athlete with explosive hops & a lot of potential...All Orlando so far - up 17 at the half, 49-32.

NBA-TV is televising games all day for anyone who's interested:

Brooklyn vs. Orlando, 11:00
Boston vs. Oklahoma City, 1:00
Utah vs. Detroit, 3:00
Indiana vs. Philly, 5:00

I tell ya what, Kyle O'Quinn would've made a great pick for us at 48. Dude has nice potential -- 6'10" with a huge 7'5" wingspan, nice post up player (lightning quick spin move along the the baseline), nice touch from mid-range, he rebounds well and he's a shot-blocker. I didn't know anything about this guy other than he was part of the Norfolk State team that upset a much higher ranked Mizzou in the tourney. Andrew Nicholson you expect it from -- O'Quinn's a real nice surprise. Would've made a real nice backup for Amar'e.

Nicholson is a very well-spoken kid. Impressive on the post game interview with Kamla & D Scott. Orlando did VERY WELL in this draft.

Nice, let's put together a roster comprised of other players' much less talented brothers: Jeremiah Rivers (Austin's bro), Chris Smith (JR's much smaller bro), Mychel Thompson (Klay's brother). At one time, I thought Mychel Thompson was intriguing. That's before I saw for myself that he's nothing like his brother.. Pitifully low FG% wherever he's been -- all 4 yrs at Pepperdine and 1 season in the DL... I dunno man -- not the roster I would've put together, that's for sure. Feels underwhelming to say the least, just like every roster we put together every summer..We'll see though.

I killed the Knicks on their SL team and let's be honest, most of these guys aren't NBA players but I gotta say, this guy Jeff Brooks from Penn State looks like a find. 6'8" 220, real good hops, nice soft jumper from mid-range and deep with good mechanics, shows a little post up game, hits the glass and he looks like he can play some defense. Out of any of these guys, this guy interests me the most..Could this guy be this year's Landry Fields, a nice SF pickup out of nowhere? We'll see. Can't find anything on this guy other than 1 or 2 clips on youtube..Watch this clip and tell me he doesn't remind you of Wilson Chandler a little bit.

umm they didn't even affect the starting rotation

however it will be

Bench so far:
Kidd
White
Novak
Jeffries(he should be resigned soon)
Camby

I would rather have a 2 guard that can spread the floor since White is a slasher but oh well, Novak spread the floor for White

I wonder who will replace TD, Jorts and J. Jordan on the summer league roster. Those 3 were all set to play for us out in Vegas starting in a couple of days. That's 3 open spots we'll have to fill. Knowing us, it'll be 3 complete unknowns...As soon as anyone finds out who the replacements will be, please post it here or on the Vegas SL thread. Thanks.
