We are WEAK at the SG position

Fields, Evans, Copeland aren't answers at SG.

Smith is solid, dude is loaded with potential.

Raja Bell would be a smart choice here, but we should go for someone a little younger.

Shumpert's return is desired, hopefully he develops his jumpshot into something more consistent. His style of play clashes with Melo.

NAhh That's out man!! Understood, It's Dolan's money but at that price we'd be stuck with him for the entire life of his contract.
And IMO he will NEVER live up to it.
AT SG we need someone who can:
  1. Spread the floor
  2. Defend Wade, Joe Johnson, Kobe etc.. night in night out (NOT STOP but atleast slow down)
  3. Get to the line AND HIT FREETHROWS!!
  4. Slash & Create their own shot
In that order..... Landry barely does 2 and 4??

I shouldn't be worried though cause from all indications Woody wasn't liking Landy too much last season anyway.

On another note**
What are the chances we package some of the new acqusitions (Copeland? White, Prigoni) with Gadzukes allowing us to take back more salary in a S&T???

Dammit.. Was about to give Grunion some props for cookin up a plan there.

Wonder what they see in White and Copeland that made them sign 'em up so early in the game??

I look foward to seeing Copeland Tomorrow in Vegas. White Tweeted he's not supposed to but might try to "get some run".

I Doubt it though.

J.R Smith can spread the floor because he can make an outside shot. Fields CANT

Smith has the ability to score 30 points any given night, FIELDS CANT.

J.R played suprisingly good defense adn rebounds well. He passes better than Fields. He has better ball handling skills than Fields.

So your solution to SG is matching the FIelds offer sheet paying him over 6 mil a year???? Are you Isaiah??

He costs too much money doesn't fit the team. We need shooters, not slashers at the 2 spot.

AND Fields minutes went down significantly once Woodson realized Shump and J.R were better and more efficient than Fields. It was like Fields was a waste of playing time.

1. Do you not understand we are stuck with team for the next 3 years either way........It only means luxury tax for Dolan ...

2. Your love for Smith is dillusional......Please tell me if he is this player again " With Potential " after 8 years in the league why did not one NBA team make him an offer.......at 2.8 he is cheap is all I keep hearing......

YES YES YES ...Fields not worth 20 million...not even 9 million for 3 years but when his salary DOES NOT EFFECT the roster why not just keep him if Dolan does not care about the tax.....

Yes he sucked in the playoffs....maybe if he had the latitiude like JR to play 36 minutes and hosit up 16 shots a game he too would be better,,,,,,,

If i was a free agent and saw the knicks sign landry for 20mil, i would not come here for the cheap, no matter how much they begged, that's all i'm saying...

I'm pretty confident that we will see Novak taking the starting SG position at the beginning. ...

There isn't a two-guard in the league that Novak could defend

I totally agree that we are weak at the 2spot. With the current starting group, we definitely need a SG that can catch and shoot three 3ball to make sure defenses are not collapsing on Melo or Stat. That would help us start games strongly. Filling this gap was our main priority this summer.

JR is not much of a catch and shoot guy. He usually needs to make a move with his feet to get a rhythm and make a shot. Very streaky, he's more effective off the bench when we need a scoring punch and would run plays through him. But he's not the best player to complement the current starting group.

I don't see James White becoming a starter; his forte will be transitional monster jams with some jawdropping alleyoops off PnRs, but he's not starting caliber.

Fields may be the best option we have left. Whatever your opinion of Fields and the offer we would have to match, you have to consider if you'd rather have him over any of the following guys:

Shannon Brown
Leandro Barbosa
Sonny Weems
Marquis Daniels
Jodie Meeks
Michael Redd
DeShawn Stevenson
Chris Douglas Roberts
Lester Hudson
Sasha Vujacic

The ones not mentioned are at the moment not in our range (e.g. OJ Mayo, Courtney Lee, Randy Foye), so talking about them is useless.

So, in summary, would you or would you not have Fields over any of the guys that are left over?

The only guy that to me would make more sense over Fields would be Michael Redd if he were in good shape, but we know thats not the case. So, in essence, we either start the season with what we got and see what comes around during the year, or just roll with Fields.

I say match the guy since we honestly wont have a better option.

Rotation player
Would be great, but he'll be too expensive

I dunno man. Although I see nice potential as a 3-pt specialist/rotation 2G, Meeks' numbers thusfar as a pro aren't Earth-shattering: 8 ppg, 41% shooting (37% on 3s) in 22 mins per career. Now I think he's capable of more than that (his numbers were a bit better in the 2010-11 season for Philly the year before last with about 5 more mins of PT per, and his numbers in college were crazy good his junior yr) but so far, that's it. Do you break the bank for this guy based on his up-to-date NBA production? I don't think so. I think a vet minimum contract offer along with the promise of a starting role might get it done. I mean if Jodie's gotten better offers than that, he would've signed somewhere already, no? I'd give this guy a call if I'm Grunwald before someone else like the Lakers or Philly calls and offers him the minimum..Beat those teams to the punch...Jodie Meeks starting/JR Smith off the bench while we wait on Iman Shumpert's return wouldn't be terrible.

I would go with Shannon Brown, Barbosa, Stevenson or Redd anyday. Grunwald hasn't disappointed yet, just gotta wait and see what the next move is...

I would be ALL for Vujacic. He had a good season when he was with the Nets. Solid ball handler and was fearless taking shots. He'd be great for the Knicks imo.

Thanks, must have used it to pay TD's salary.
I just wanna clarify, we DO have the BAE I learned, however if we use it we would go over the 74mil hard cap and the Knicks have elected not to use it.

David Weiner

Knicks WILL have access to Bi-Annual Exception. However, use of BAE would impose $74M hard cap, so NYK'll CHOOSE not to use it.

We get it kiya, you really like fields.
But you do realize that there are other sg's in the market right now, allot of them better, cheaper, and more fit for Woodson's system

We are clueless of headcoach Mike Woodson system now that he is no-longer an interim coach. Plus Mike Woodson have huge respect for any input Jason Kidd throws at him.

Skisloper....put logical clarity to your thread at best....
FIELDS $$ cannot be used for another player...
We have I think Vet minimum left...
There is no player better then fields that we can get at the vet minimum...
The Knicks Big-2 (Stat/Melo) $40M per salary has locked the expansion level of Knicks-fans mind worldwide .. The next 2 seasons the Knicks will be paying $5M each to starter SG-Fields and starter PG-Lin....
That is only $10M per added to the Knicks cap for a pair of Backcourt starters who Gell and co-exist with each other on offense and defense for the next two seasons .. one of the players happen to be a 82 game player who consistency is at 80% on offense or defense.
Is Landry Fields a better defender at SF than Melo? Hell Yeah!
Is Landry Fields a better defender at SG than JR.Smith? Hell Yeah!
The defensive lineup of Lin/Shump/Fields in the 3rd n 4th quarter provided more defensive stops in 20 games than the Knicks had in a decade.

Those who think a 6.10 Novak who work ethic the past 3 years have been at improving his skills/talent at the PF/SF position can also perform at the SG spot missunderstood the concept of a peremeter shooter.
PF-Dirk is a peremeter shooter Duncan n Amare are not.
SF-Melo is a peremeter shooter Lebron, Odom, n Josh are not.
SG-Ray Allen is a peremeter shooter Steve Jackson, Bell, n Fields are not.
PG-CP3 is a peremeter shooter Parker n Rondo are not.

The number-one reason we must match Landry Fields offer is Fields is a bold slasher who speed will stay in front of Lin n Kidd's fastbreak transition .. its not even a question on who Lin & Kidd would favor on a fastbreak dunk between Amare and Melo, or Fields and JR.Smith.

Here is the best cheap combo-guard on the market we could sign......
Suns withdraw qualifying offer to Brooks
Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - The Phoenix Suns have withdrawn their qualifying offer to guard Aaron Brooks, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Brooks spent the 2011-12 season in China. He last suited up for the Suns two years back, striking for 9.6 points, 4.2 assists and 1.1 rebounds over 25 games after his acquisition from Houston.

1. What is your point? I was making a case to Kiyaman that signing Fields is idiotic because he is not worth the money and the luxury tax would be insane.

2. My love for Smith? He is a good SG that we are getting for nothing because he loves NY. Teams knew he would resign, why didn't teams offer Novak a deal? Why did Lin get only one offer sheet? Come on bro you don't think teams know not to waste their time with players that will def resign?

Smith is better than Fields by far in every category. And we are paying half the price...if that is not a bargain I dont know what is...

So tell me again...what is your point?
