It seems as if the majority opinion on Ray is that he's washed up, a numb-nut, a fatty boom, and basically incapable of being the PG the Knicks so desperately need in the wake of Jeremy Lin.
For me, having Felton back isn't such a bad eventuation. He played his heart out for the Knicks before the Melo trade, averaging a solid 17 & 9 as our primary playmaker. His triumphant return to Charlotte was a favorite of mine.
Unfortunately, it doesn't show a lot of his impressive highlights in this video - in fact it shows him getting dunked on and rejected - but what it DOES show, was his brilliant end game rebound to seal the victory.

Plenty of other fond memories to add, but that was a ballsy performance from Ray Felton. One that I'll remember, certainly.
In my opinion, ruling out Ray as a capable, dedicated and suitable PG for this team is a bit presumptuous. I certainly don't believe that he's afforded the sh!t storm that's crashed down upon him, either.
He has a lot to live up to, and playing in Lin's shadow isn't a task that wouldn't daunt most point guards, bar of course the elite.
One thing Ray's always been praised for - except in Portland under McMillan - has been his heart (though it does appear his heart could currently be having a bit of a sh!t time). When we signed him on, Larry Brown, who during the 2009-2010 season was Felton's coach, had this to confide with former Knick GM Donnie Walsh.
And that quote is not a one off, either.When the Knicks were looking to sign a free-agent point guard last summer who could get the ball to Amar'e Stoudemire, Donnie Walsh called his old friend in Charlotte, Larry Brown, to get a scouting report on Raymond Felton.
"Larry told me he never coached a kid with more heart than Raymond," Walsh said recently.

So, I'm backing Felton because I believe his resolve and wanting to be a Knick will catapult him in to form. Plenty of question marks looming over his head, plenty of detractors, very few optimists.

One thing I have always appreciated about Felton was his heart (when he was playing on the Knicks anyway). He never backed down to anyone while he was wearing orange & blue. I admired his moxy & he was great in the PnR with STAT & made him a better basketball player & vice versa. The chemistry between those 2 was clearly apparent. I'm hoping they can get back to the same this coming season. * fingers crossed *
i'll tell you my faith after I see how he looks going into training camp. People are making jokes (myself included) but that extra weight held him back until the end of the season when it looks like he started to get in shape again.
I have little faith in him right now, and I really hope I'm wrong.

Dont quote me on it, but didn't he average something like 11 & 6.4 last season including when he lost his starting job? That's only 2 points less than Lin averaged per game, and we have more depth/options this season.
All the haters have probably stopped reading this post already, but all signs point to Felton being a beast when motivated. What part of him coming back to NYC signals that he will be unmotivated? Even when he was in Portland last year he stated that he wished he could have stayed a Knick.
Fat jokes aside, he will be like a little kid in McDonald's for the first time when he returns to The Garden. Surely this would be enough to inspire him to be back in shape? No? Well guess what. If Melo didn't get a pass on conditioning from Woodson, then what makes you think Felton will?
Obviously MDA's system inflates all PG's numbers so Felton probably won't put up the same numbers he did previously. We don't need him to! With Kidd being a very solid back up to him we won't be losing much as our 2nd unit starts to come in. I think it is realistic to assume that he will put up something in the vicinity of 14/8/3. Woodson will probably utilise the PG's as facilitator's much more than scorers, and his & Kidd's assist rates will reflect this.
Sorry for the novel but this is my honest & realistic estimation of Felton's performance next season.
I'll never understand how some basketball players manage to get outta shape like THAT!
I mean they're playing ball 5-6 times a week (including practice)....how the hell do they get fat? They pretty much need to eat junk all freaking day.
It's impossible to get fat on normal nutrition while playing ball 5-6 times a week.
Don't know what to make of his time in Portland. Felton has a rep as a fiery competitor but he acted like a biatch complaining about Macmillan not having confidence in him and drowning his sorrow in double quarter pounders and KFC.
He's got a great opportunity here in NY, playing with a team he's had success with and better personnel than when he was here last. His job will be a lot easier because he doesn't have to score, just drop those dimes and play D. I hope he sees that and drops his shots per game.
