The Knicks will let Antonio McDyess speak to reporters for the first time since the club declared him out for the season after he underwent left kneecap surgery Oct. 15. Perhaps McDyess will indicate whether he's trying to return earlier than predicted - perhaps late March or April.

The Knicks are not wavering from their post-surgery news release that McDyess is "expected" to miss the season. McDyess still has his cast on, but that should be removed soon. Once the cast is removed, more aggressive rehab will take place.

so, who think dice will be back by march?

i think anybody would like to see dice playing this season, but as
thomas said: it's better not to rush
since we won't make the playoffs anyway, we should lose as much as possible and next year, with a healthy mcdyess, vujanic, and maybe lebron we could do a really nice move

Antonio McDyess missed Latrell Sprewell by two years at Alabama and both players realize history could be repeating itself.
"We'll see if it happens," said Sprewell, the subject of trade rumors since last summer. "That remains to be seen. He definitely would have helped us this year. Unfortunately he got hurt."

McDyess has been sidelined since mid-October when he had surgery to repair a fractured left kneecap. On Tuesday, the veteran power forward confirmed that he will not play this season. McDyess also expressed relief that Sprewell was not traded last month and reiterated that he hopes the two will be teammates next season.

"Hopefully, we will get to play together," McDyess said. "Will it happen? I don't know. But when I came here I planned on being on the court with that guy."

McDyess could be a powerful ally for Sprewell the way Patrick Ewing was for both John Starks and Jeff Van Gundy. A healthy McDyess should make the Knicks legitimate contenders in the Eastern Conference next season. But the Knicks need McDyess mentally strong as well as physically fit.
