Default Nets’ Opener Against Knicks in Doubt

The messy aftermath of [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] has cast doubt on [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]’ highly anticipated season opener against the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], scheduled for Thursday night at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] in Brooklyn.

The N.B.A. was evaluating the situation Tuesday as New York began to recover from the storm.
“Tonight’s games will be played,” Tim Frank, the N.B.A.’s senior vice president for communications, said in an e-mail. “We are still assessing the situation with regards to the rest of the week.”
It is not clear when the N.B.A. will make its determination, or what factors will go into the decision. It may depend on how quickly the city can restore mass transit, the subway system in particular.
Barclays Center is served by 11 subway lines and the Long Island Rail Road, none of which are running at the moment. City officials have said it will be three or four days before subway service returns. The lack of mass transit could be crippling for the arena, which sits on Brooklyn’s busiest intersection, at Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues. Parking in the area is severely limited. Barclays Center officials have promoted mass transit as the preferred option for visiting the arena, which opened Sept. 28.
The Nets also have home games scheduled for Saturday (against Toronto) and Monday (against Minnesota). The Knicks’ home opener is scheduled for Friday night against the Miami Heat.
The Nets are making their Brooklyn debut this season after 35 years in New Jersey.

Default Nets’ Opener in Brooklyn Is Postponed

The [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]-[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] game scheduled for Thursday night at the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] in Brooklyn was postponed on Wednesday because of [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]’s devastation of the mass transit system.
The announcement came a day after the N.B.A. said the game would be played. General Manager Glen Grunwald of the Knicks and his Nets counterpart, Billy King, confirmed the postponement.
The game was to be the first regular-season contest at the newly opened arena, which was built above a subway and Long Island Rail Road transportation hub. But fans were going to find it nearly impossible to reach the arena because all subway and rail service was knocked out because of flooding. Some of it has since been restored.

There should have never been any doubt that this game was going to be postponed. Good to see someone in the league office has common sense. First game of the year will be against the Heat like last year if the lockout never happened. #KNICKSTAPE
