Carmelo Anthony Discussion Thread - All Things Melo

Superstar??? No Allstar, yea but he is surely not worth what we gave up and he is already acting like a Prima-donna. $65 Million extension Kid refuses to play D makes $1,600 a minute while on the court but doesn't want to pay attention for a full game. I'm tired of this Guy know and what's crazy Denver reconstructed their team the way we should have imagine AMARE on that team instead of KMART They are easily Finals contenders.

This thread won't go over well on this site. This is a very pro-Melo site where any negativity towards Melo is met with extreme criticism.

But anywho...some interesting statistics. Since the Melo trade, Denver's defense has improved dramatically, they are allowing 11 less points per game than before the trade. That is a telling stat. Also, FG% is up and assists are WAY UP. There offense has not changed as they are still one of the top scoring teams in the league.

Since the Melo trade, the Knicks' FG% is down and assists are WAY DOWN. Offense is down too. Defense is basically the same.

Some telling stats. Maybe it's Melo. Maybe it's the awful combo of Melo and Billups. Or maybe George Karl suddenly figured out how to coach defense and D'Antoni suddenly forgot how to coach offense simultaneously.

KOBE AND LEBRON BRING THE WHOLE PACKAGE D, PASSING AND OFFENSE.

MELO BRINGS THEM WHEN HE FEELS LIKE. I SAID ADD AMARE TO THE ROSTER THE NUGGETS HAVE NOW INSTEAD OF KMART.. THAT'S WHAT WE WERE GOING TO DO

Not sure what your point is, are you complaining that Melo isn't Kobe & Lebron? You're arguing that we would have won a championship if we had held onto our young players & just built up with them & STAT? Do you honestly in your heart of hearts believe that the team we had before the trade was a championship core? I don't. Something big had to be done. Whether Melo is the answer or not remains to be seen but there's no arguing he is a huge upgrade in talent over any of the guys we traded away. The rest is up to the head coach to get these guys on the same page & playing winning basketball. Both Melo & STAT have proven over their careers to be good enough players to anchor their teams' runs to the WCF. It's not a stretch to believe that both of them together makes for a very dangerous combination when they figure out how to play with one another. Chemistry isn't built over the course of a couple weeks. What's going on in Denver is an aberration not the norm. Star players have a harder time assimilating their games from the get go than role players do. I think the Knicks & Nuggets dichotomy clearly demonstrates this. If after this season you still see the same old lack of chemistry to begin next season then you will have an argument, but until then this is all just more of the same bellyaching over a trade you don't even know what the final outcome will be like.

The Verdict is still out.
It's not that I dislike Carmelo.
It's that I liked Gallo, Chandler, and Felton much more.
Especially Gallo, whom suffered all those boos in our NY draft night, only to come back and work his way into our hearts.

But we'll see how Carmelo goes.
And its a 5 year 65 million dollar extension.
Thats not 20 million per year.

Anyone who blames the players, especially our superstars, have no clue what they're talking about. It is the coaches responsibility to ensure they put their players in the best situations to succeed. Melo is PROVEN TALENT. Stat is PROVEN TALENT. Billups is PROVEN TALENT. Fields is practically the ROOKIE OF THE YEAR.... 4 out of 5 positions in our starting lineup are practically all-stars yet our squad can't beat the worst team's in the league? Our troubles are STRICTLY COACHING RELATED.

Coaches mean everything! Whoever doesn't think so needs to take a look at college basketball, especially St. Johns...Who just got a new coach this season and didn't recruit any new talent (starters/rotation guys) yet they went from being ranked 175 to being ranked 16 and beating teams like Duke by 20. It's all about coaching and our coach and his system SUCKS @SS!

Well said. It's time for a coaching overhaul.

It is a question of compatibility. Our combination of talent does not work at all. Now coaching might be an issue here as far as the system is concerned, but we won games because of our floor spacing earlier, that is completely gone with Melo who is used to playing closer to the basket. Once again: as soon as Dolan becomes a "hands on" owner, we are in for trouble. He doesn't understand the game.

I don't know why noone knew this. It was easy to see. But everybody just looked at the name and the number of points scored and didn't bother to think. Well, Dolan did. He was thinking of raising ticket prices 49% and needed to give the emotional masses what they wanted. Smart basketball be damned.

Melo is the real deal. He's on a bad team with horrible coaches, what do you expect?

He's been infinetely better than Stoudemire since the trade!

It is just that things were working out better than expected before the trade. No we suck. You do the maths.

You are right our spacing is terrible now but that is also the coach's responsibility to fix. He needs to work the playbook around his players and not force the players to play out of position. We look like a low-budget circus out there...Seriously. That's not on the players.

And you right about Dolan being not the greatest owner...But there's nothing we can do about that but just hope for the best. I'm not too happy with Walsh or Antoni either... Our whole FO sucks.
