From ESPN recap:
J.R. Smith, Pablo Prigioni and Tim Hardaway Jr. all had potential game-tying 3-point attempts in the closing seconds against the Grizzlies. It doesn't matter who has taken those shots for the Knicks this season, they have all struggled. As a team, the Knicks are 2-of-25 (8%) on potential game-tying or go-ahead field goal attempts in the final 24 seconds of 4th quarter or overtime this season, the worst percentage in the league.
I will say it for the Billionth time ..
"Melo dont shiiii in the 4th quarter !!!!!"
6-27 from 3-land. Our starting PG plays 30 minutes and his production: 6 points & 1assist. Melo our leading rebounder. Other than Melo, the other starting 4 avg 15 points... Combined!!!
Oh, yeah... Up 3 with 1 minute to play, so of course we double a big (with his back to the hoop) 10 feet from the basket, and leave a hot sniper wide open to drain a three, even tho two points cannot beat us.
And then there is JR... Disinterested for the most part all night, decides he might as well fire away from downtown withe 24secs left. Despite being 1-7 (ice) on the eve. Hey, there is a reason you were left wide open. This is why Melo shouldn't pass, bc when he makes the right move and passes to the wide open shooter two things occur. (1) clank - as said shooter misses badly and (2) cluck - the critics moan that he never passes.
To be fair, JR made a great decision to make the extra pass to skip it to Prigs, but he clanked the game tying three too. Nobody on this team can hit the big bucket. Makes me long for the 50/50 days of J-Craw and N8, or even the 25/75 days of Gallo.

I heard some analyst on the radio the other day, and said Carmelo is top-5 in NBA in offensive rating in the first 3 quarters, and then like 50th in the 4th quarter. No wonder we are something like 1-27 when trailing after 3 quarters. This tells me 3 things1) The minutes are catching up to 'Melo. Playing career high in minutes, forced to do it all just to keep us in the game (we always seem to be either mounting comebacks or barely leading after 3 quarters). He is simply gassed, and when he finally goes to the bench to rest for the start of the 4th... HIs body is not responding when he returns, and with his gas tank near empty... just cannot get recharged. Should the coach rest him more? Sit him near the end of the third, and let him play the fourth? Change up something? You would think so... After all, these are NBA players... they can play some defense.(2) Anthony isn't doing much. And it appears the thing is snowballing, gaining momentum... Confidence is a fickle thing in sports. Even the best slump at times. But this is a team sport. Where is the help? As bad as Anthony is in these situations, nobody else is doing much of anything either. Actually, aside from the rookie having some moments... we do not really have any reliable, consistent 4th quarter help. Other teams know this. Think of baseball... teams wont let the best hitter beat them. Best hitter gets nothing to hit, so he either swings at balls or talks the walk. Defenses are doubling and tripling Anthony, forcing him to distribute... On top of that, Anthony rarely gets the benefit of the whistle (even at MSG). So Melo has 3 options: force the action and risk getting hacked and not get the call, or take a low % contested shot from 15+ feet, or pass to someone else. WHen the other starting 4 guys surrounding you COMBINE for a grand total of 15 points per game... Yuck!(3) 'Melo not superman this season. Sure, if he was even 50/50 on these shots... We probably hovering around 3-5 games below .500, instead of out position now. BUt does this change the fact our starting guard duo barely sniff 10points and 5 assists per game, or that our starting center barely defends or rebounds? Our our sixth man cannot score?Uhhhhh, Melo is LEADING the NBA in minutes and you wonder why he is spent by the end of the game????
