CBSSports.com -- The New York Knicks have discussed inviting free agent Metta World Peace to training camp, according to the New York Post's Marc Berman. World Peace asked for and received a buyout from the team after being buried in former head coach Mike Woodson's rotation last year, and would reportedly like to come back.

World Peace is eager to reunite with his former Lakers coach, Phil Jackson, and his former Los Angeles teammate, coach Derek Fisher, and erase the bitter memory of his original homecoming.

“[World Peace] has the utmost respect for Phil and Derek,'' his agent, Marc Cornstein, told The Post. “There's a history there. They know he's out there.''

The Knicks are trying to add another good-sized small forward to the roster. After Carmelo Anthony, only rookie Cleanthony Early is a true small forward. During summer league play, Early is trying to prove he is ready to be Anthony's backup, but hasn't shown he can create his own shot.

If he is invited and New York doesn't make any significant moves before camp, World Peace would compete for a roster spot with big man Jeremy Tyler. He'd have an advantage in that he's familiar with the triangle offense and the Knicks don't have any players quite like him. His health might be the X factor here -- World Peace had his knee drained five times last season, per the Post, and was not productive in his limited minutes.

No, we are done with MWP in NY.

Meta wants to play for Phil, he has ties to Fisher and this could be a possibility... He wasn't bad when he was here, but Woodson did stash him on the bench whereas he could of been a bigger asset on the floor... Who knows like the Bynum story, maybe P.J. & Fisher can control him whereas he will be less temper mental if he doesn't see the amount of minutes he believes he deserves... Wait n see approach, I guess...

Enough with these old heads in NY haven't we learned enough with BDiddy, Bibby, Camby and even MWP himself. All these guys were done when they came to NY.

training camp? fine. roster? feh. MWP has to prove he's in perfect health and can bang better than Tyler and Jason Smith to even be considered. I'm not against him joining the NY Lakers to help the team learn the triangle in preseason and make them better, but if he can't cut at least 20 minutes per game, f*ck it.
