Greg Monroe could bolster the front line of the Knicks The New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons are reportedly working on a sign and trade deal that would send Greg Monroe to the Big Apple. The Pistons are looking for J.R. Smith and a first round pick, while the Knicks are offering Smith and a second round pick. The Knicks couldn?t give up a first round pick until 2018.

The NBA has a rule that states you cannot trade first round picks in consecutive years. The Knicks lost their 2016 first round pick in the Andrea Bargnani trade last summer.

The Knicks probably would be better off sending Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith to Detroit for Monroe at this point. New York has a plethora of wing players and certainly can?t afford to give up another first round pick.

What might be the best part of this ?potential? trade would be thought of Josh Smith and J.R. Smith play basketball together. The post Knicks and Pistons discussing trade that would send Greg Monroe to New York appeared first on Pass The Pill - Kings of Hoops.

I could see this happening because they need to put Josh Smith back at PF, as a wing he's trigger happy and is better at PF.

Getting him would mean the Knicks begin their rebuilding effort one year before they intended to because Monroe is going to want max or near max money.

this is bullsh*t story. there has been no discussion of trade or otherwise regarding Monroe, it was something suggested during a hoopshype text discussion by the host, like a typical fantasy trade pipe dream forum post with no basis in reality. end thread.

Two quick thoughts on this. First off, no way we should take ourselves out of next season's free agency hunt, let alone give up either a 1st or 2nd round pick to do it. Second, Greg Monroe, a guy who averaged 15 points, 9 boards, less than one block per game, and is a big man who shoots less than 50% from the field and around 65% from the free throw line, who played for a losing team last year, should not expect max contrast money from anybody, especially (hopefully) not us. I hope like Clyde said, this is all the stuff of fantasy discussions.

It may be all BULL, but Phil knows he have to find a way to trade all the Knicks players who had problems playing with Ball-Hogging Carmelo Anthony last season. And the top of the list of players who want out are "Amare Stoudemire, Shump, Barg, and Prigioni". The same players who wanted to be traded on the February deadline, and couldn't afford to walk off the team like Beno Udrih and MetaWP.

The fact lies strong in the effortless 21-40 record last-season when leader Carmelo Anthony led the NBA in the most minute played player during the 61 games, before Phil Jackson took the Knicks president job.
When Phil Jackson took the Knicks job as president, the Knicks players came out to WIN 16 games out of the final 21 games of the season. What was interesting about the Knicks 16-5 run were the Knicks players had no intention on making the playoffs. WHY?
Losing to the Cavs without their star PG-Irving, losing to the D.League Lakers team, and the big-buster were losing to the Washington Wizards by one point again this season.
Two of those Wins would've put "Carmelo Anthony" into the playoffs.....
