Sprewell to San Antonio

There were more reports Sunday that the Spurs are trying to concoct a trade that would bring Knicks guard Latrell Sprewell to the Alamo City.
This scenario involved three teams. The Spurs would send Malik Rose to Philadelphia, Philadelphia would send Keith Van Horn to the Knicks and the Knicks would send Sprewell to the Spurs.

However, the Sixers have signed forward Kenny Thomas to a seven-year, $50 million deal, and sources familiar with the Spurs situation said there was little chance that Rose would be involved in any move with the Sixers.

In addition, the Sixers reportedly have said there is no such arrangement on the table.

That doesn't rule out the possibility of some trade, possibly involving another Spur, such as free agents Stephen Jackson and Speedy Claxton.

Spurs assistant coach P.J. Carlesimo, the former head coach of the Golden State Warriors, says he would have no problem with Sprewell joining the Spurs' roster.

Sprewell was suspended from the league for throttling Carlesimo when the two were at Golden State.

The Spurs, seemingly convinced they will lose Claxton, have put out feelers to 5-foot-5 point guard Earl Boykins.

There are reports that San Antonio contacted the player's agent to determine whether Boykins would be available and interested if the backup point guard slot opens up.

Boykins played backup to Golden State's Gilbert Arenas last season and averaged 8.8 points and 3.3 assists.

Boykins was not drafted when he came out of Eastern Michigan in 1998. He played in the CBA during sections of his first two seasons out of college while also putting in some floor time with Cleveland, New Jersey and Orlando.

He was with the Los Angeles Clippers for two seasons before joining the Warriors last year.

Claxton's final destination may be determined when Arenas' future home is determined.

Arenas, a restricted free agent, has offers from the Los Angeles Clippers, Washington Wizards and Warriors.
