Brown - "Dead man walking"

• Larry Brown's future in New York remains very much in question, so much so that the Knicks coach revealed yesterday, "I feel like a dead man walking."
  Making just his second public comments since reports surfaced nearly three weeks ago that Garden chairman James Dolan is considering buying out Brown's contract and replacing him with Isiah Thomas, Brown claims that he has yet to receive any clarification about his job status.
  
  When asked if he is confused about where he stands with the organization, Brown said: "You hear anybody deny the story? I haven't met with anybody. I work the kids out. I don't know what they've done in the past with the coach. Have they always had police escorts? I really don't have any explanation of what's going on. I do my job. I love this part of it. I'll come back tomorrow and do it again."
  
  Brown was referring to last week when the Knicks summoned Greenburgh police to remove a small group of reporters from the grounds of the team's training facility. The reporters were told they would be arrested for trespassing.

I do hope that Larry doesn't end his career like this though. Maybe he can replace Lawrence Frank in NJ since Sacramento don't want anything to do with him.

As bad as this season was, with Brown around, there was always something interseting to read in the papers. Now that I think of it, Brown would be a good fit in NJ.

Who cares about the fn media except you. They are worse bottomfeeders than most lawyers. The press corps, especially in sports, are idots in NY. The
only reporter with any sense od decency regarding larry brown has been Frank Isola. he at least is balanced. He says LB brought some of the problems on himself, but the main problem with the Knicks, in Isola's view, are players who have no heart and a very bad front office, meaning IT and Dolan.
You are totally lacking in basketball IQ, if you still blieve that Marbury is the Man and the Knicks should build the team around that jackass. Of all the NBA
talents today, Marbury definitely has great talent, he is the stupidest and MOST selfish I have ever seen in over 30 years of watching the game.
LB is not seeking sympathy , my streetball simp, he is seeking justice.
In your world of pumped up roids and small minds you might not know there is a great difference between justice and sympathy. I will not lecture you further on this point. If you have no core values. , as is obvious, no

he is getting 10m a year, and along with that large salary comes a lot of heat in ny.

my opinion (and everyone's got one) is that he is trying to get fired with the full 40m in his pocket... and retire to lovely east hampton , eat at nick and toni's, see some rock shows at steven's talkhouse...etc/etc

Well, I consider that opionion a lot of hot air. Brown has a proven work ethic as a coach. He has never been one to sit on his laurels, so I do not understand what motivatesyou to take that unnecessarily CYNICAL viewpoint. I believe you read too many sports columns and listen to too much ESPN. Talking about hit air, ESPN and the NY Post vie neck and neck on who is the most illogical, sensationalistic,unreliable sports "news"
entities. I am NOT a lover of LB. I do respect his proven record of achievement. He has a methodology in his coaching which is quite predictable. I find it quite amusing to see IT and Dolan , unhappy with Larry. They knew he would not accept this team as constituted and should not have hired him unless they were willing to dump the streetballer mentality of Marbury and others.

no question brown is ... or was a good coach... but he sure did'nt do a good job last season...23 wins... the makeup of the team certianly leaves room (maybe a lot of room) for improvement... but 23wins.. some of the blame is brown's

as to be 'CYNICAL'... nah... when i look at larry brown a see a guy who stays in a place for a short time and moves on... usually with a nice parting gift (read lots of $$$)... he leaves the motor city with 7m , signs with ny for 50m, and if dolan wants him to leave, he certainly will... as long as he has a check for the balance owed him... 40m...

larry is working the system... and i applaud him (maybe his agent) for it... given half a chance.. i'd do the same..

LB he has to go for several reasons. No one can lie...when he signed with the team everybody was happy. And to some extent were ready for the rebuilding stage. But dag 23 wins? This isn't winning? This is hitting rock bottom. Herb Williams can give us more than 23 wins. And LB is getting paid 40 million on his contract...the highest paid coach in the league. LB has to go because.....1) no G.M in history can turn this roster around so Larry can have his own roster which is crazy since coaches coach...they don't cry for more players. 2) We're not paying a coach 40 million to rebuild we're paying him 40 mil to take us to the promised land not to bury the team in the ground. 3) Believe it or not...this roster is a playoff roster, we need guidance and patience...not bashing every young player in the media cuz they didn't play well for a week. The perfect example is Ariza....coming into the season he was the prototype LB player, he plays hard night in and night out he works hard and he listens to his coach. All of sudden he hits the bench and LB won't tell him why. He just bashes him in the media. Then days later he gets traded. Yea that's a coach we want back. 4) We don't build teams around coaches we built teams around players and the last time I checked LB's old behind was playing SG for the knicks. We need a coach to look at the cup half full instead of half empty. I'm not saying that we build our team around Starbury but he did take us to the playoffs his first attempt on the team....I can't say the same for LB. In fact, starbury is battle tested to take us to the playoffs. This is just not an LB team. He needs to go somewhere else because it's easier just to buy him out then just completely implode the roster that we have.

I think people are deluding themselves to think that if we had a different couch we would make it into the playoffs. But even if we did make it to the playoffs chances are we would be eliminated in the first round anyway, swept would be more accurate. After the Knicks made the playoffs in Marbury's first year we were swept by NJ and have done nothing since, So I guess Marbury is not the "savior" of the Knicks afterall. I have said many times the Knicks need a Jason Kidd type of pg not Marbury. Jason Kidd is a leader, he is a floor general he may not score a lot but he can still make an impact on the game with his hussle and defense. Jason Kidd is basically everything Marbury is not.

I agree....we do need a jason kidd type of point guard, but then you will have to make some more changes. If you realize...jason kidd prototype teams have athletic and fundamental sound teams. Jason kidd has VC, RJ, and his center Krisic can run the fast break. Steve Nash is the same way. Not many Centers in this league can run constant fast breaks without tiring out or breaking down. So my idea is to keep Starbury...give him a sound complement. Some possibilities is an athletic wingman who can finish strong and also has the outside jumper or a postman with a game like frye but with more experience. You can look at this situation and have multiple scenarios in making it better. But you have to look realistically and being realistic....Marbury is staying like it or not. These are the things that aren't going to change....

1) Marbury is staying unless we get a superstar in return
2)LB is leaving before marbury (just because it's easier)
3)The roster status

Our roster can still change somewhat for example Jalen Rose, Jamal Crawford, Channing Frye, Nate Robinson, Eddy Curry, and Mo Taylor all have trade value and fairly tradable contracts. But trading these players won't help us get to the promise land faster...in fact it might even hurt us more if we get old veterans with bloated contracts. If I were Isaiah Thomas I would do several things...

1) Get rid of Larry Brown
2) Trade Q and a draft pick for a perimeter defender
3) Trade rose and nate robinson for Al harrington
4) Hire Patrick Ewing as asst. coach
5) Trade mo taylor and a draft pick for Danny Fortson

We are already one of the youngest teams in the league and draft picks won't help us immediately. Although I love Nate Robinson as all knick fans do...I have faith that my new coach will mold my new backcourt into the best three man rotation in the NBA. So my depth charts look like...

PG- Stephon Marbury 2) Steve Francis
SG- Jamal Crawford 2) Steve Francis
SF- Al Harrington 2) Perimeter Defender??
PF- Danny Fortson 2) Channing Frye
C- Eddy Curry 2) Channing Frye

Channing Frye is proven to be a pretty good shot blocker so I think we can mold him into one with Patrick Ewing on the staff. Our frontcourt is strong and powerful with decent defense so our interior is no longer soft. Our backcourt has some offensive power so of course they will shoot most of the shots. You can throw the ball down to Eddy if you want to exploit the opposing interior defense. You can run the pick and roll with channing frye. You can go into the post with Al harrington also. We'll have a perimeter defender to come off the bench so the runs can be limited when go to our reserve. Fortson provides that old school toughness we need. And JC can spread out the defense so steve and stephon can slash and create the wear ant tear to the opposing defense. So in theory....we can use JC, stephon, and steve in a 3 head offensive monster in our backcourt. None of them playing more than 35-37 minutes so none of there legs will be gone by the end of the season. The inside is strong, we have a coach that understands the roster, we have perimeter defense, and our offense will gain chemistry as the season goes on. Our players will gain their fire again, last season will be a learning experience for everybody, and I think the winning spirit will catch on faster than Isiah can say you're fired...

1 and only you have some good ideas but I'm still hoping in their infinite wisdom or lack there of they would keep LB at least for another season. LB probably won't go quitely into the night if they let him go one way or another. I'm sticking with LB, I think he can be a great couch for this club if he is given another chance.

#1. we must get rid of LB. hes the man of a million excuses and never knows how to take the blaim for anything. i swear i was watchin some games last season and with some of the sh*t he would do i was like wtf is wrong with this guy. for those of u who feel he deserves and 2nd shot read this article if u havnt already. it shows the darker side of brown which the media never reveals...

and brown continues to sulk to the reporters even after his "dead man walking" statement. yesterday he told reporters, after he quit on the knicks earlier than he should have, "my wife is afraid im gonna jump off a cliff". larry cry me a f*ckin river. he is pullin all this sh*t because he needs to feel like the victim. i dont feel sorry for him @ all.



#2. i would deft trade q and a pick for a good perimeter defender. maybe rashard lewis could be that person.

#3. i would deft trade nate and rose for al harrington. again i would try to have atlanta throw in their pick. they have a great chance of getting tyrus thomas with the #5 pick and i think he would be a great addition.

#4. pat ewing will help all of our young big men turn into great players. i say we clear another spot on the coaching staff for walt 'clyde' frazier (if he would be willing). i think in order to turn these 3 small guards (marbury, francis, & crawford) into the dynamic force they should be isiah will need more help considering he will have to worry about coaching. frazier knows his basketball. he knows what its like to wear a ring. he knows how to utilize the talent of these 3 great guards and turn them into like u said the '3 head offensive monster'. my coaching staff would consist of
head coach- isiah thomas
assnt coach- herb williams
assnt coach- pat ewing
assnt coach- walt frazier
and any other assistants that weren't all for brown last season

#5. i would also give up another pick and mo taylor for danny fortson. he is one of the most intimidating defenders in the league (he's great on the boards too).

#6. i would also take a chance with k-mart. i would trade channing frye and jerome james for martin. this would get rid of james' bloated contract. we would get a potential superstar in return for channing who took a hard shot to the knee and is a question about how he will bounce back.

i agree that brown had a lot of questionable moves last season. i think he is a good coach, but maybe not with this team as presently configured, or maybe since he is in his mid 60's , its time to pack it in...

i agree let thomas take over the reins, and sink or swim with the present roster.

as a knicks fan i am hoping for the best next season, but preparing for the worse..

Trade Frye for Martin? No way, no f'n way. That is a very Thomas-Dolan like move. Danny fortson is good, but I rather have him come off the bench. K-mart's better days are probably behind him, plus Frye gets paid beans. Young guys that have those rookie contracts and unlimited potential are what the Knicks need to keep on the roster. Not another overpaid media villian, who has a history of injuries. The Camby for Dice move scared me straight forever!

I kind of like Clyde as a broadcaster. Besides, i think its realisitic to think that most of the players would tune him out anyway. He doesn't deserve that kind of disrespect.
