Stephon Marbury resisted the temptation to kick sand in Larry Brown's face or gloat about being the last man standing in their very public feud.

Instead, Marbury praised Brown's successor, who not only is Marbury's fifth head coach in New York alone but the only one he ever wanted barking instructions at him. Claiming he is so happy about having Isiah Thomas on the bench that "they couldn't surgically take the smile off my face," Marbury revealed that he tried for the past three years to convince Thomas to take the job.

"I wanted him to be the coach before all of this," Marbury said late Saturday. "This is not brand new to me. I used to beg him, 'Why you don't coach? Why you don't coach?' Because I know that he knows how to coach. I've seen him coach. So, I'm like, 'Man, you'll be good.' And he's like, 'I can't help you down there.'"
