Good times. I wish I lived in that era, even the 90's kicked ass.
Good times. I wish I lived in that era, even the 90's kicked ass.
heh, about a week or two ago, i found a great clip on youtube from arsenio live show and thought about the same thing
Fat Joe is talented, no question. He has too many haters in my opinion.
[Fat Joe]
Yeah
This is goin out..
to all the live mother****ers, knowhatI'msayin?
All the real *****z
Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens
California
LaBella Puerto Rico, wherever the **** you from
KnowhatI'msayin? Yeah
This story takes place, back in the South Bronx
where at the age of 14 I was already knockin off punks (yeah!)
And suckers were scared to death -- every time I walked by
I hear them *****z take their last breath (ahhh..)
See I just didn't give a **** - and if you had a C-skin
a leather bomber, you was gettin stuck (word!)
That was the way it was
One day I went to visit my aunt, and stuck up my cuz
See **** was ****ed up back then
No matter what the **** I did I never had no ends
And my moms was on walfare
Aiyyo I knew I had a father, but the ***** was never there
So what the **** was I to do
I'm sick and tired of bein the bummiest ***** out the crew
I gotta get mine, I gotta get cash
I see an old man, I'm gonna rob him with the quick-fast
Give me your mother****in loot, papi
I'm gonna get paid, and can't a damn thing stop me
See, I'm tired of this poor ****
And who the cops? Well they can suck my mother****in dick
Cause all them *****z ever do is harass
That's why I get glad when I hear somebody smoked that ass (*gunshot*)
Just to let ya know how I feel
Word em up, the ****in **** is real
Hey yo, it's real
Chorus: (*cuts "Down on the reel to reel"*)
Aiyyo the **** is real
Aiyyo it's real
Word up, the **** is real
[Fat Joe]
Now I'm sixteen and there's a brand new scene
I'm makin mad loot, gettin paid off the dope fiends (word)
Keep the **** in check, in order
and my main man Tone was ****in everybody else's daughter
See everybody knew in town
that Joe and Tone had **** locked down
And a ***** wouldn't test me
It seems like every other day the ****in cops arrest me (yea!)
But the **** will never stick
I make one phone call and be out like quick
Cause Uncle Dan had my back
And now *****z gettin jealous cause they know I'm livin fat
Talkin **** around the way and on the block
But never in my face, cause they knew I packed a glock
And my crew is mad deep
A bunch of crazy Puerto Ricans, so aiyyo don't sleep (word!)
And all you bitch ass *****z know the deal
Check it out, the ****in **** is real
Hey yo, it's real
Chorus: (*cuts "Down on the reel to reel"*)
Aiyyo it's real
The ****in **** is real
Yeah.. aiyyo it's real
[Fat Joe]
Check it out
Let me let ya know why I made this song (why?)
Brothers can't deal with the real, word is bond
I'm sick and tired of these fake ass *****z
sayin that they catchin bodies when they never pulled a trigga
I know your style, I've seen it before
You wear an army suit, now you think you're hardcore
Drinkin on your 40's, smokin on your blunts
Can't afford a chain so you wear gold fronts, yeah
You're fakin the funk, kid
And you'll be gettin it up the ass if you ever did a ****in bid
It's time to separate the real from the phony
The name is Fat Joe, punk, act like you know me
I come equipped with the ruff ****
Nowadays I can't believe the bull rappers come up with
And all ya bitch-ass *****z know the deal
Check it out, the ****in **** is real
Hey yo, it's real
Chorus: (*cuts "Down on the reel to reel"*)
Aiyyo the **** is real
Aiyyo it's real
The ****in **** is real
[Fat Joe]
Word up!
I wanna say peace to my peeps, The Beatnuts
Messengers of Funk, Strickly Roots
My man Funk Flex, Zulu Nation
Jazzy J in the house
Diamond D, the whole Diggin' in the Crates crew
And rest in peace to my man Tony Montana
Aiyyo, I'm out, word is bond
The **** is real
(*cuts "Down on the reel to reel"*)
Aiyyo
I'm not a huge fan of Fat Joe but this song is really good. Reminds me of one of my all time favorites - Wu Tang Clan's C.R.E.A.M.
Yea, it was that NYC gangsta rap style that put NYC on the map big time. It was lyrical, soul and great story telling. Ever since NYC stop doing that, the quality rap it self just fell off.
Wu-Tang Clan is too classic, they were too good all around for people to really appreciate them.
How could we forget people like Nas, ILLMATIC!!!!!!, and Jay-Z!!!!!!! Well Jay-Z before his new crappy album.
the illmatic is unique. and i'm a proud owner of an original cd
Yo that Fat Joe album was the ****!!!!!!! REpresent is one of my favorite albums ever. **** is real, man I love that song. I still bump that all the time. This rap now is whack. Late 80' and the 90's were the greatest times for rap, FAt Joe, nas, Rakim, Krs one, A tribe called quest, de la soul, Cormega, tragedy khadafi, mobb deep, Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, MC shan, Gangstarr, The Lox, a young DMX. ahhhhhhhh man what the hell has happened to rap? This **** aint rap anymore.
Ricans were the sickest b-boys...they just took it a new level.
Classical.
I canīt start new threads, so I will write my question here:
I was visiting NYC last week and I assisted to the NJN-NYK game at the Madison Square Garden. I liked so much the music during half time, timeouts, before the game... And my question is:
Do you know the titles of any of the songs usually played during the Knicks games?
Thank you in advance
No one mentioned J. Dilla and his classic shining? Common's MC square? Aw man ya'll missing some major hip hop. If ya'll think Fat Joe was sick...J Dilla on a whole nother level with it. His stuff can't be reproduced. This guy was a beat genius. The early timbaland albums like "up jumps the boogie".
Up Jumps The Boogie (Timbaland, Magoo, Aaliyah, and Missy...a classic!!)
Common MC^2 prod. by J Dilla
Frank N Dank
Strange Fruit Project (The Jam!)
,
A Tribe Called Quest, Frand N Dank, Slum Village, Pete Rock, Strange Fruit Project, The Roots, Pharcyde...awww man ya'll missin out. Gotta give love to Talib and Mos def for keepin it real.
That is all I listen to...Hip Hop from the 90s and my slow jams. That's all I rock to. It's good to see everyone is on the same page with the state of hip hop. Back in the day I could just turn on the radio and hear my jams...now I have to roll with my mp3 player everywhere I go cuz the game is garbage. Gotta stick with my intellectuals...Nas, Talib, Mos Def, J. Dilla, The Roots, and Common. All of their lyrics are on point. Much love to Alicia Keys too. That's my favorite R&B chick. She looks good, is intellectual and has class but at the same time she gives you all of what she has...gotta love that. Dag I can speak on this for days...

dam guys...well yea NAS illmatic was his best cd...and im into 90s rap...but like more like BIG L, MASTA ACE, A Tribe Called Quest, Naughty By Nature, Notorious B.I.G, Wu Tang! and other stuff 2 much 2 mention
Big L might have been the most skilled ever, it was between him and Big Pun. Lyrically, those 2 rappers were crazy, no one now could touch them. Common, Talib, and Mos def are all nice. Krs1, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Masta Ace, these guys were all sick. Who the **** is Soulja boy, MiMs, and these other garbage rappers who i dont even consider rappers. I cant name one song by either of them, even Jay-Z dissed MIMs. Mobb Deep was one of the best groups of the 90's, Prodigy is one of the best ever. Cant forget about gangstarr.
