Knicks rookie Michael Sweetney sent flowers to teammate Frank Williams' home and has tried calling him on the phone. Williams' mother died 12 days ago and he's still not with the team.
Sweetney knows the pain.
One week before his first training camp, Sweetney's father, Sammy, died of a heart attack Sept. 21. Sweetney, the ninth pick in last year's NBA Draft, managed to make it back for camp's first day one week later. For the first time, Sweetney has revealed he was not emotionally ready for the preseason, setting the tone for an awfully slow start.

Isiah Thomas,
determined not to repeat his one admitted mistake at Indiana last year, has set Frank Williams up with a grief counselor since his mother has passed. Thomas traced the downfall of last year's Pacers to his inaction after Jamaal Tinsley had lost his mother and Jermaine O'Neal's father had attempted suicide.

What a shame . It seems like he is really hit hard by this.I guess everyone handles death differently.I can recall athletes in other sports having to take the fiield after a sudden or shocking death by family or friends.Alot of times these same athletes have had magical moments in sports with death hanging over thier heads, giving us fans a fleeting moment of wonder and awe.I hope Frank gets to play, for his sake and the knicks sake.
