I'm clueless...I would go for the draft and get the best PG available.

    Buy some draft picks.

Get some talent @ the front court.

Primary motive would be to dump Curry, Richardson, Harrington, Hughes, Jefferies...

WE NEED TO OBTAIN A LOT OF TALENT AT THIS POINT...YOUNG CHEAP TALENT AND TEST OUT WHAT BEST WORKS FOR US.

Playing Hughes, Harrington, Jefferies, Richardson and Curry minutes at this point is a waste of time.

They won't be apart of future (hopefully)....I would just sign a bunch of DLers to 10 day contracts and have auditions....start the 09-01 preason season EARLY...why wait?
    Agreed & Agreed....
My trade scenarios wouldn't indicate it, but the shooting guard issue hurts a lot. Not a fan of the Joe Johnson idea personally.

JR Smith of the Nuggets contract expires this year. He's a bit of a nutbar though. Still, he'd be handy to have running the lanes with a rookie pg in the middle & Chandler & or Gallo following on the opposite wing.

This pre-season is seriously making me nervous. A playoff berth would mean a lot for the free agents of 2010.

Never really got the JR Smith hype. To me he's sort of like a less good version of Ricky Davis of a few years ago, just slightly better from 3 and slightly less turnover prone, but not as much of a scorer. I've been pretty solid on the fact that the last thing I want on this team is a headcase, I've had enough after Isiah and Steph. I just don't want a guy, talented as he is, to come in and just be an ******* and a pain in the ass. Not to mention, NY is NOT the place to do it.

That's the reason I liked the Yankees from way back. Just a bunch of quiet guys who went out there and just won games. They didn't have to talk garbage, they didn't do any of these pregame rituals or flash signs to the crowd or at each other. They just won games. That's what I'm craving in NY, a team that just goes out, does their job, and wins games. I know a lot of people are dying for the swagger, but I'd much rather have a team that wins a lot of games than a team that wins a few games and can talk a lot of garbage. That's why I didn't want a guy like Chris Andersen who was rumored to be coming here I think this past off season, at least his name was mentioned. It's okay to show emotion, it's okay to CARE. But to me, it's not okay to just be a smack talker who really isn't that much better than the next guy. I want a team that focuses on winning, not the disses they can send out to the opponents on the court.

Pray for this kid in the draft.
    Tywon Lawson 16.6ppg + 7ast
Because we'll never get Rubio. We're not that lucky.

    New 5:

    5 - The Need
    4 - Bosh
    3 - Willy C
    2 - Fernandez
    1 - Lawson

I'm against paying N8 to act like a ****ing baboon on heat.
Lee's defense leaves a hell of a lot to be desired.
    Harrington's a turd.

Sheed's a temp I know but he can bring a mad sense of urgency to a team that'd very likely hit the post-season. Especially to Chandler who looks bored ****less 70% of the time.

I know a lot of crew don't dig Bosh. I can see why, but that's cool.

Fernandez is the next Ginobili. Sort of. He's got that savvy mentality and shoots like a porn star. Way better than N8.

Lawson's not necessarily likely I know, but it'd be better than signing a Bibby, Nash or Miller just for costs and ages sake.

    The bench would be:

    Hughes
    Duhon
    Wilcox
    Gallo

and the scrubs who'll remain nameless.

    Post-season ahoy!

I kind of like where you're headed with this. Although Bosh is not my first choice, it makes sense to trade for him now, plus he is probably available this offseason. If I'm not mistaken, by trading for him now, I believe we can get another all-star free agent because Bosh's contract expires at the same time. But we would be able to sign Bosh after we sign a Lebron/Wade/etc. regardless of our cap situation because Bosh would be a restricted free agent.

I like the idea of getting Rudy Fernandez. He's going to be a great player. But I don't think Frye could be included because he is a free agent too. Fyre would have to be a sign and trade as well. We would have to work something out with signing Nate and trading him for Rudy and some other player.

Also, what about trading Wilson Chandler and our pick (8th?) to move up to the 2nd or 3rd spot in the draft. If Ricky Rubio is entering the draft we should seriously consider doing this.

    Possible 2010 lineup:

    PG-Rubio
    SG-Fernandez
    SF-Gallo
    PF-Lebron
    C-Bosh

Yeah, I would hate to have 28.4pts, 7.7 rebs, 7.3 assts and 1.2 blks at the PF position, plus 22.7pts, 9.9rebs, and 1.0 blks at the C position (sarcasm).

Problem is LJ, yes those stats are good when taken in a vacuum. But if LBJ is playing the PF he's likely being checked by the other team's PF. Currently, LBJ gets his 7 boards going against SFs or even guys like Jason Kidd, so the numbers are skewed. LBJ wouldn't put up 7 boards being checked by the league's PFs. He can put them up against the league's SFs, SGs and PGs who check him now.

Likewise, same deal with Bosh. He puts up his boards being checked by the league's PFs. If he's playing center, he likely will be checked by the other team's center. Bosh wouldn't put up 9 rpg against Dwight Howard, Z, Bynum or any of the league's top centers, or even a decent one. It's all relative.

    Why for the Spurs?????
---Jared Jefferies is a good defensive presence to have for a team in playoff contention. Gallinari is a good shooter like Kerr that ever championship team needs, while he also has major upside.
    Why for the Knicks????
---Two expiring contacts. They gain 8 million to spend in the summer of 2010 while they still get two decent players. Both are aging, but again they are for the future. Kurt coming back to NY is big and I like this move for the fans.

    Mavs get:

Why for the Mavs? Cuban will make a risky move, hes like an Isiah Thomas but smarter. He will realize his system doesn't work so he will go to youth, in comes Robinson and Chandler. Unstopable lineup.. Kidd Robinson Chandler Dirk and whoever..

Why for the Knicks? Josh Howard is a star, just what we need to get a LeBron

Resign Lee to 4 years 8.5 million per

Now.... Realisticly.... our lineup in 2009 would be

    C David Lee
    PF Al Harrington
    SF Josh Howard
    SG Larry Hughes
    PG Chris Duhon

    Bench
    Roger Mason
    Jerry Stackhouse
    Kurt Thomas
    Quentin Richardson
    DRAFT PICK

    Our 2010 Lineup...
    C Dirk
    PF David Lee
    SF LeBron James
    SG Josh Howard
    PG Johnny Flynn/Ty Lawsom/Chris Duhon

LeBron maxes out, Dirk goes for about 10 million for the first year

I hear you. But in all likelihood, those are the positions they would be playing in D'Antoni's system. Remember he had Amare playing C and Marion playing PF in Phoenix. He may not choose to recreate everything in Phoenix but I get the feeling he would.

What I don't get is why can't we sign LeBron for a million a year, but Dolan hires him to do an advertisement for the Garden(or whatever you want to use it for) for 25million a year, one commercial a year. Thats like paying him 26 mill, well over the max.

Some fat old bastard would've made a ****ed up rule about that I guess.

    It'd be too easy otherwise.

    DRAFT PICK

    Our 2010 Lineup...
    C Dirk
    PF David Lee
    SF LeBron James
    SG Josh Howard
    PG Johnny Flynn/Ty Lawsom/Chris Duhon

LeBron maxes out, Dirk goes for about 10 million for the first year
If you were to swap Dirk with Lee and replace Lee with a defensive minded center, I'd be all for that! Otherwise I think there'd be some rebounding issues? Still, it's well thought out for sure.

    SF-Gallo
    PF-Lebron
    C-Bosh
Yeah, I'd be down with the Chandler + 8th pick for Rubio (not just a shot at Rubio) for sure.

I'm pretty sure Lebron is needed in either the 3 or 2 spot, even the 1. He'd play the 4 perfectly of course, but you want him on as many breaks as possible considering his ability to score and draw a foul against anybody.

    I personally would prefer:

Rubio (or Ty Lawson and retain Chandler)
    Fernandez
The King (Though I think it's highly unlikely)
    Bosh
Some bruiser with an Oakley-esque approach to nose bleeds.

That Spanish Armada back-court would rip the league apart. Conquistadors on a fast breaking binge. LA showtime all over again in the Apple. Imagine that pair and Lebron carving through the daily top 10 on nba.com! **** me.

But,who do you have on the bench?

    Cheers dude.

And, I'm not trying to police anyone's trades either. I'm just fretting about the upcoming off-season.

Without a constructive overhaul of personnel in the NY line-up before the 2010 March deadline, the entirety of all efforts to clear cap space for the 2010 off-season and free agent market are going to be jeopardized. Not entirely of course, but, there will be consequences for any and all **** ups.

I've done it before and so has JPZ. For those of us who enjoyed it including myself, I'd love to see who can figure out a realistic trade scenario that'd benefit the team.

Here's a list of this off-seasons free agents

Remember, Lee & N8 are both sign and trades if you want to include them in a trade scenario.

Basically, all that means is that you would have to give them a realistic contract and then trade them. eg: pay N8 $7m/year and then trade him for someone of equal or slightly more or less monetary value.

Pretty simple stuff! Always good to see what others can come up with as well.
JPZ's trade thread from earlier in the season was good fun so I thought I'd cook up another one given the perfect timing.
