http://blogs.trb.com/sports/basketball/knicks/blog/2009/04/knicks_eyeing_spanish_pg_not_n.htmlIn a search for affordable solutions to improve the team (and find players who fit the D'Antoni system), the Knicks will look everywhere -- including Europe -- to fill some of those four or five roster spots that will be up for grabs in training camp.
With that in mind, meet Carlos Cabezas, a 28-year-old Spaniard who will be a free agent this summer and announced on his personal website that he's getting interest from Real Madrid and your beloved Knicks.
Loosely translated, a report published on Cabezas' site regarding his free agency said that he is "studying an offer to test with the Knicks this summer" and that he is considering the NBA.
"Reportedly, Knicks officials have contacted the players agent," the story adds.
Cabezas has played for Spain's national team, including the 2006 World Championship squad, but was not on the Olympic team last summer in Beijing, which included the 17-year-old Ricky Rubio at the point. He has played his entire pro career with Unicaja of the EBA.
More on him as I come across a credible scouting report and further info.
This is his website (it's in Spanish):
