Knicks keeping OKC phone lines ringing?

This is an article about the Richard Jefferson trade to the Spurs but also mentions that the Knicks are looking to trade up to #3.

I think it's a longshot especially if Thabeet is still on the board.

While the Milwaukee Bucks took a major step toward clearing some salary cap space Tuesday when they traded Richard Jefferson and his hefty $29.2 million contract to the San Antonio Spurs, they are expected to make even more fiscal-savings moves.

The scuttlebutt around the NBA is the Bucks are now exploring the possibility of trading veteran point guard Luke Ridnour.

Ridnour, whom the Bucks acquired last summer in a multi-team trade that sent Mo Williams to the Cleveland Cavaliers, is guaranteed $6.5 million next season in the final year on his contract.

Bucks general manager John Hammond has made it clear that he wants to retain both power forward Charlie Villanueva and point guard Ramon Sessions, who both become restricted free agents July 1.

The Jefferson deal should enable the Bucks to re-sign one of those players. However, unless they move another contract like perhaps Ridnour?s, it would be nearly impossible to re-sign both of them.

Bucks hit list

It?s no secret the Bucks are hoping to use their No. 1 pick ? the 10th overall selection ? on Syracuse University point guard Jonny Flynn.

According to several league general managers and player personnel people, the odds are fairly good the Bucks will land the dynamic point guard.

But what if Flynn is chosen before the Bucks? Who is their second choice?

Again, according to several league officials who have had discussions with Bucks officials in recent weeks, the Bucks would choose Arizona power forward Jordan Hill. However, Hill is likely to be chosen before the Bucks? pick.

The Bucks? third option apparently would be combo guard Jrue Holiday of UCLA. Holiday had a uneventful freshman season with the Bruins and his workouts with several pro teams have been unspectacular.

Yet, some NBA officials are enamored with Holiday?s mature, NBA-ready body, his lockdown defensive capabilities and overall upside.

Another player who is drawing draft consideration from the Bucks is Gerald Henderson, a shooting guard from Duke.

Henderson and Southern Cal swingman DeMar DeRozan are being seriously considered by the Toronto Raptors, who pick directly in front of the Bucks.

Blair off radar?

DeJuan Blair, the bruising power forward whom the Bucks seemed to have a keen interest in just several weeks ago, has seen his stock slip.

In fact, Blair hasn?t been invited to New York to be part of the NBA?s draft production. Those invited include Davidson guard Stephen Curry, Gonzaga forward Austin Daye, DeRozan, Flynn, Memphis guard Tyreke Evans, Oklahoma power forward Blake Griffin, North Carolina power forward Tyler Hansbrough, Arizona State shooting guard James Harden, Henderson, Hill, Holiday, point guard Brandon Jennings of Lottomatica Virtus Roma, Italy, DKV Joventut point guard Ricky Rubio, Connecticut center Hasheem Thabeet and Lousiville forward Terrence Williams.

White-hot rumor

Minnesota acquired the No. 5 pick in a trade with Washington Tuesday. Now, there?s talk the Timberwolves will try to package that pick, along with their No. 6 pick, and send them to Memphis for the No. 2 overall selection.

The Timberwolves would then select Rubio, whom some observers claim is the second coming of ?Pistol? Pete Maravich.

n The New York Knicks, who currently have the eighth overall pick, are trying to acquire the No. 3 pick from Oklahoma City. The Knicks are targeting Curry, whose dad, Dell, played for the Bucks during the 1998-99 season.

McNeal draws interest

The general consensus among NBA scouts is Marquette University guard Jerel McNeal will be picked early in the second round.

McNeal?s teammates ? Wesley Matthews and Dominic James ? aren?t expected to be selected. Ditto for Wisconsin forward Marcus Landry.

Bonus shots

If the Spurs hadn?t acquired Jefferson from the Bucks, it is believed they were going to pursue Vince Carter of the New Jersey Nets. ... Hammond was Detroit?s vice president of basketball operations when the Pistons chose Amir Johnson as the 56th overall pick in the 2005 draft. Johnson also has the distinction of being the last high school player drafted. He attended Westchester High School in Los Angeles. ... One Western Conference official says the Jefferson salary dump by the Bucks was almost similar to that of Memphis? two years ago when the Grizzlies sent Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers for virtually nothing as well.

I will give everyone the password to my account and leave this site if Knicks waste the # 3 on Curry.

Harden, Thabeet, Rubio, Evans, Flynn would all be superior choices.

Seriously, **** Walsh if he even tries this.

Like said, if we take Curry with the third pick...argh.

Harden, Evans, Rubio, Thabeet, Hill...all hell would probably break loose in New York

Shit like this almost makes me not want to trade up. If we trade up, I'm scared Walsh will **** it up with something like Curry. Curry at #3...SMH. :barf:

I think Donnie is just saying this (if he even said that) as a mind game perhaps; I think i can say pretty confidently I don't think there's any way he'd ever pick Curry 3rd if Rubio or Thabeet were still there.

Though i do like Curry and if those two are gone with Blake, that's obviously our best bet.. but we stay at 8 he won't be there

I doubt donnie is that stupid. Curry is a 4-9 projected pick. If we trade for 3, we better get Ricky freaking Rubio, or Harden.
