Gallo will be our best player next year, by far. His combination of slashing and shooting will not only allow him to score, but also create opportunities for others. He can play the point forward, and initiate the offense. Similar to Hedo Turkoglu, except I think Gallo will be more aggressive, and he's a better shooter. What are your opinions/expectations for him this coming season?

If he's gonna be 100% healthy that should be about right. Also I think his range is very close between the 2 and 3 so he may go 45%FG and 42%3FG. D'Angtony said the other day that Gallo is the best 6'10'' shooter he's ever seen and in that morning practice Gallo shoot 23 straight 3 pointers.
If he can go 18-20 PPG and all other stats you mentioned I think he will open a lot of next year FA eyes. If he does that, Lee, Nate and Chandler(if they are still here) match or improve their last year stats and Hill and TD shows potential we might have some play off buzz. Then we can only sign one big name(Lebron, Wade, Bosh) next year and be a player again in 2011 market after curry and jeffries are gone(if we can't move them sooner.)

ay ay...im no gallo hater or nothing. In fact i hope he can put up numbers like that. But c'mon, 15-18 points is possible but to be averging 6 and 6 otherwise is damn near kobe like... You guys sure do love this kid w/o seeing him ever play a healthy game. Theres a number of nba players that can hit 23 shots (WIDE OPEN IN PRACTICE)...Lets hope, but geez, give the kid some years

1)Kobe is more like 30/6/6. Turkoglu averaged 20/5.7/5 in 2007 and that who we most likely compare gallo. Like with any prediction it may not happend but also is not a big reach. Although is just his second seasson and his first (I hope healthy) so maybe 4-5rpg and 3-4apg is more realistic.

2) Name those players that can hit 23 straight 3 pointers even wide open in practice( they dont have to even be 6'10''). I'll bet you will stop before 5.

In practice, just shooting around, no clock, at their own pace. These people are in the NBA...thats what they do...If u can pop 3pt jumpers and you call yourself a 3pt shooter you should be able to this. I play college ball and I know pure shooting bench players who can do this

Dont get it twisted...23 in a row is impressive

I don't see Gallo as a three point specialist of the bench and I hope he doesen't become one therefore I was not thinking Butler, Kapono etc. more like a starter.
The others make some sense.
Reed- maybe
Peja-maybe
Ray Allen-for sure

And none of them are 6'10''

Then again he may never become as those three players but you got to like the potential.

He'll crock his back in preseason and be in a wheelchair the rest the season, doing charity events with Yao Ming

I'm cool with those numbers, maybe he'll be a tad under. I think he has the tools to get those numbers. Let's just hope he is finally healthy!!

Phew.

That's a bit rich!

Can't knock a man for optimism though.

Considering he's hardly played, I think I can realistically say (given what I've seen & know) that he'd be more of a:

16-17ppg
3 dimes
4 boards
1 steal

along with high shooting percentages in all categories at best.

And that still depends on the rotation. It'd be a shame to see Chandler playing well and getting less minutes than Gallo IMO.

After all, it's a make or break year for The Big Cock.

I'm not gonna hold on to too much hope for the kid honestly.

Yeah, maybe I'm being a little optimistic. But in this system I think he could do this. Gallo is such a good shooter that he'll take advantage of most of the open opportunities that the system provides off fast breaks. Add in his slashing ability and passing ability, I don't think the stats I put up are THAT outrageous. I mean, Nate averaged 4 APG in this system, and he's a terrible passer. Gallo could definitely get 5-6 APG.

"Gallo will be our best player next year, by far."******------Really? Talk about optimism. Better than Harrington, Lee (maybe) and Chandler? "Yeah, maybe I'm being a little optimistic. But in this system I think he could do this. Gallo is such a good shooter..." ---- Exactly, he's a good shooter and is yet to prove he's a good ALL AROUND BALL PLAYER". Therefore until I see him get it done at both ends consistantly, when teams go at him and put their best defenders on him I reserve judgement. To me you just said "the knicks are sooo garbage that their first round pick who played in 28 games with reduced minutes/touches and a shavin vertibre/buldging disc is better than anyone they had.... including the vet. who led them in scoring and the league double/doub. leader"....***toke-toke

Welcome to the board!!! Our basketball IQ is finally rising again. You are absolutely right about pure shooters. Every hoops team has a guy that can drain them in practice. The difference is can you do it in games, then can you do it in BIG games. The cock hasn't shown his body is even NBA ready enough to play in HALF of your regular season games, let alone bust grape in them. Jay is a Cock lover(lol), so you have to consider the source and apply a grain of salt. My hope is the Cock can actually stay on the court this year and contribute like a lottery pick. That means at least 8-10 points a game in positive minutes. Hopefully the Cock has picked up a post move or two in the offseason, because you don't spend a lottery pick on a 3 point specialist. I am still upset about the guys we passed on to grab the cock(lol), so I hope the Cock will rise to the occasion this season!!!(lol)

Your hopeful for Eddy Curry who more or less tried to eat himself out of the league but your down on the 19 year old who had an actual injury and atleast played more then 10 minutes last year? So are you a jaded Bulls fan that followed Crawford and Curry or are you a Knick fan.. I'm all for being optimistic about Curry possibly not being a complete waste of money but all hopes for next year hinge on Gallinari... And for some reason just his demeanor and the small glimpes he showed last year make me believe we got a big time player in last years draft.

I'd say 18pp 4 boards and 3 assists seems about right.

Great post.

I think some people are giving Gallo way too much credit too soon. The guy has yet to consistently showcase his skills enough for me to place him among the teams best players. We saw way more of Chandler and what he could do when he's focused, so why not think he will come into camp even better for next season?

I'm def rooting for Gallo, but let's not set these high expectations for someone who just came off of back surgery. We all agree that next season will be his real rookie year so we should evaluate him when he's played at least half a season against the best defenders on a nightly basis.
