ESPN rates Dantoni's first 2 seasons as coach

SO you think we would have made the playoffs with Marbury coming off the bench? First, it's all speculation and hindsight on your part. Second, after trading away our best talent there was no saving the last two seasons. Third, playing Marbury does nothing to advance our 2010 goal.

The guy was an emotional cancer and was practically DNP on the Celtics and now is toiling away in China. If he had some worth don't you think there would have been ONE NBA team to offer him a min contract? I guess Dant controls every team in this league now...

EDIT**Advocating for us to keep Zach and Crawford only shows you are a poor judge of talent. Yes, these guys at the time were our two best players but they did not compliment one another nor did they have a surrounding cast capable of maximizing their skills. Further they would have hampered Lee's progression.

What the hell are u talking about?
I did not mention anything about playoffs....I mention D'Antoni being an offensive coach and Isiah left him with a roster of offensive players that could have gathered alot of wins during a weak (poor PG) NBA league in the 2008-9 season. Starters Marbury & Nate (backcourt) won the Knicks 6 straight games, having Marbury & Nate come off the bench with fresh legs on oponents bench players was a 65% Knick win in the 2008-9 season.
The Knick "WINS" wouldve boosted up the trade-value of all the players on the roster. We could have made some decent trades rather than trade for all the next team garbage players.

Boston let Rondo run the entire show for 39 mpg in the playoffs last year.
Marbury ate Rondo up alive twice last year in the preseason games where a benched Eddie House did his best to try and distract Marbury.

Oh okay...they were going to get more wins yet not make the playoffs. Brilliant plan! That is what your beef is? Missing out on a few more wins yet not making the playoffs? All just to play Marbury to make you feel better? Alrighty...

You should learn to READ in to posts instead of making BOLD assertions in CAPITAL letters.

I was merely disproving lilman's point that D'Antoni would "hinder" 2010 plans "if anything".

Clear succinct sources:

There seems to be a reoccuring admiration...wouldn't yuh say? No where in my post does it say that I think this admiration gets us our max guy, but I DO (see I can do capital letters for emphasis as well) believe that Mike D is not "hindering" any attempt at getting a max player. That much is obvious.

Ok I hear you. One thing I noticed about the JJ comment that concerned me was the fact that he liked Dantoni becasue he let him "free-wheel" out on the court. To me that's not coaching unless your allowing a Lebron type of player to do it.

I'd rather players admire Dantoni because of his hard nosed approach to the game (if he ever develops one) rather than because they get to do whatever they want. There has to be some structure even with the really good players.

My point, when i said he'd hinder players from coming, is from the fact that since he's taking over the Knicks he has shown that indeed he is a fraud. You are going off the premise that these quotes are 100% genuine. I'm not saying that they are not, however, the NBA is all about showing a newat facade. These questions were asked on the record from someone in the press, what did you honestly expect them to say? Oh Mike D'antoni is a **** up? thats not what the NBA is about. They are all about upholding an image. So yea they will find good things to say about the man... But does that mean they would come to the Knicks, does that mean they actually would play for D'antoni? Look, point in fact Kobe did not like Shaq. That is public knowledge, However, did you ever see Kobe go on ESPN or in the papers saying anything tot that fact effect? No because thats not what these people do. They don't fight their battles in the press. It is common knowledge that Jordan and his flunkies held Isiah off the 1st dream team, however, during that time, when they were asked about it in the press, you didn't hear anyone saying "oh Isiah was a piece of shit thats why we didn't want him on the team".. Its stupid to bring these quotes as some sort of evidence that he wouldn't be a hinder. Besides, two of the quotes you provided were from 2008, when some people still thought that this man could coach. Since that time he has shown that in fact he is inept. (P.S. The Kobe quote was him talking about D'antoni the player not the coach)

Does it matter at this point? We want our max guy, and D'Antoni is a good draw for players, because players have expressed interest in the system.

I am by no means a D'Antoni supporter, but i reserve the right to not pass judgement with such horrible talent in NYC for the past 2 years. If D'Antoni is merely a selling point to max FAs then that is fine with me! Can the guy if he fails! We'll have our max guy and our franchise will be in much better shape.

Right!

Understand this: "no coach could've done any better" is an ATTEMPT to grasp at straws and is an opinion based on fantasy.

We are looking at D'Antoni... not another coach... he had opport.'s and failed at in HIS contributions... NO ONE SAID "Its his fault"- which is another desperate attempt to skew the facts.

D'Antoni's POOR DECISIONS are why he isn't good NOT THE KNICKS RECORD!!

My point exactly. I defended D'Antoni for a long time because, well, one look at the roster tells you enough about how good this team is. But I couldn't defend some of D'Antoni's boneheaded moves, like the DNP-CD for players like Darko and Jordan Hill. Jordan Hill should've been getting 20 minutes a night from the start of the season...
