He sucks.

He has good size at 6"5, but his production is awful.

Strengths: Cerebral 2 guard most known for his range and jump shot, Andy's quick release and accuracy make him a deadly threat from outside ... He needs minimal space to get off his shot, while having enough range to knock down threes with ease ... He is always active without the ball, constantly running through and around screens to free himself open ... More than just a 3 point specialist, it's his play making abilities that make him a well rounded player ... He has an excellent basketball IQ, along with tremendous court vision, his passing skills can sometimes go overlooked ... When he does have an open lane to penetrate, Andy has the ability to take it, and set up his teammates for easy baskets ... He understands where to put the ball when throwing entry passes into the post, making it easier for his big men to go up in a smooth and constant motion ... He is an above average defender, with quick hands and an ability to read passing lanes ... You might say he is a product of working in Jim Boeheim's 2-3 zone for 4 years, but his awareness propels him to be a pest on the defensive end, on and off the ball ...

Weaknesses: He lacks athleticism, size and strength, which hurt him on both ends when comparing him to other shooting guards at the next level ... He does not have the quickest first step, which really makes him nothing more than catch and shoot threat when it comes to scoring ... Just like any pure shooter, Andy gets a little streaky from the outside, and since he has trouble creating for himself, he can be ineffective at times when his three-ball is not falling that day ... You don't see him finish around the basket that much, mainly because he never gets there unless it's in transition ... His ball handling skills are average to above average, although it?s not a true strength of his game ... Because he can see the floor well, he sometimes gets carried away with trying to make the tough pass, when the simple pass would be the better decision ... Though you don't see it often because of Syracuse's zone, when playing man to man,
Andy can be over matched against quicker and stronger shooting guards ... He is not quick enough to guard the 1, and sometimes not strong enough to guard the 2 one on one ...
Born in November of 1986 so more than a year older than most Seniors, taking away from his potential ...

JJ Redick 2....ewwwwwwww

JJ is my favorite player in the NBA. He is no JJ Redick. Not even close. JJ is a potential All Star

I love this pick though. Perfect for D'Antoni and a perfect role player for LeBron or whomever they get

LMAO you also just told me everything i need to know about Mr. Rautins.

If he's not close to Reddick, a fringe NBA niche player, then he isn't a NBA Player period.

Terrible draft pick.

I don't even think the guy showed up in the first two rounds of most mock drafts. The Knicks better know something that others don't, his dad was a former first rounder so maybe the kid's pedigree and intangibles (maybe his dad knows one of the Knicks scouts) had something to do with it. Looks like a fail to me, this kid is D-League fodder like Gerry McNamara. It would have been nice for the Knicks to have gotten a hidden gem from these picks but I don't think it's going to happen.

duhon 2?

Andy Rottens = White Duhon? is that a racist remark? if so, appy-polly-logies.

this sad x-'cuse seems to be someone who "fits" the D'antoni offense (shoots 3's and dishes) ala Duhound 2008-2010. sadly, makes sense!

People who think this dude is JJ Redick or anything close to that sadly mistaken, if anything he's Adam Morrison... Loser Walsh and Dantoni are the heir apparent to Elgin Baylor and whoever the clippers coach would be at the time of the draft.. cuz there picks dont make a bit of sense

This is a passable pick only if its the 60th pick in the draft and we already have lebron... rautins goes to early and isnt much use to us if we dont get lebron. We wouldve been much smarter to take alabi and warren, kill me now.

GREENBUGH, N.Y. -- One is a heck of a shooter. The other is quite the leaper.

And the New York Knicks, still with their eye on a bigger prize, hope both Andy Rautins and Landry Fields will be fetching doughnuts for LeBron James at the start of the 2010-11 season.

The Knicks failed to buy into the first round of the NBA draft Thursday night and were left with the two selections they began the day with: Nos. 38 and 39.

"It would be great to come out with one good player, to be honest with you," coach Mike D'Antoni said beforehand. "If we hit two, it's a home run."

Despite a need for size on a team with only five players under contract beyond July 1, the Knicks instead went first for a shooter, Rautins, a member of the Canadian national team who shot .407 on 3-pointers for Syracuse last season.

The 6-foot-4 guard did almost nothing but shoot 3s at Syracuse, taking 282 of his 360 career attempts from beyond the arc. In the 2010 NCAA tournament, he went 12-for-24 in Syracuse's three games and scored 24 points against Gonzaga in the second round.

Rautins father, Leo, was a member of the Knicks in training camp in 1987 and appeared in three exhibition games for New York.

Fields was selected first team All-Pac 10 after leading the league in scoring at 22.0 points per game while grabbing 8.8 rebounds. He also led the team in steals (51), blocks (25) and minutes per game (36.3), and he registered a vertical leap of 39 inches when the Knicks worked him out. Only Corey Fortson of Arkansas registered a higher vertical leap (40 inches).

Chris Sheridan covers the NBA for ESPN.com.

From what i have read the guy can shoot it really well. 80 percent of his career FG's made have been deep balls. He wont be a superstar but championship teams need specialists. Paxson, Kerry, Horry, Elliott, etc.
Gives u 10-15 minutes and drops a few 3's.
2nd round picks are a toss up. The reward can be high if he turns out to be productive. we shall see.

Idiot hey need role players and court leaders. How many court leaders do we have on the Knicks? None. Rautins is a born leader. This shows you have never watched a Cuse game. I only went to about 10 or so this past season! BORN LEADER, FUTURE NBA 6 MAN! We needed Rautins.. Really wanted him. He is a stud. You idiots. Don't question Walsh

NBA isn't the college game...not at ALL.

He's not a born leader in the NBA0. You think dudes in the NBA get all hype when some dude who can barely even make a roster tries to fire them up. They will probably laugh in his face and tell him to play some defense or learn how to beat someone off the dribble before he opens his trap.

The NBA is a talent driven league, which is why i think it is so much better than the College game....bullshit intangibles are not involved. He's not good enough to play in the NBA and was a terrible choice if we are gambling on a 2nd rounder to pan out.
