There are rumors of three-way trade discussions among Golden State, Minnesota and New York, in which Al Jefferson would be sent to the Warriors, David Lee to the Timberwolves, and Monta Ellis to the Knicks.

Lee visited Minnesota on Saturday but the team holds only $7 million of salary-cap space which means that Lee would be looking for a sign-and-trade to get him to the Wolves at a contract nearer to his market value.

With what is expected to be the final week of the LeBron James free-agency saga about to unfold, Chris Sheridan of ESPN offers some of the key strategic considerations that are in play.

Another free agent who could ultimately figure into all of this is the Knicks' own David Lee, who Sheridan reports is amenable to going to Toronto in a sign-and-trade for Chris Bosh.

The Knicks have communicated to Amar'e Stoudemire that they are willing to offer him a maximum-salary contract of $100 million over 5 years without yet making him a firm offer.

The reason the Knicks are holding off is to wait for decisions from James, Bosh and Dwyane Wade.

At the heart of the matter is with whom James and Bosh prefer to play and in which city each prefers to play.

On Thursday, New York's management told James he can bring any other maximum-level player with him, or he could agree to play with David Lee re-signed by the Knicks at some number below the max-salary amount.

Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks have agreed to a four-year contract.

Nowitzki will be guaranteed $80 million over the length of the contract and accepted less money in order to give the Mavericks more room to make additional moves.

Nowitzki's deal also contains a no-trade clause.

RealGM Note: Nowitzki has spent his entire career with Dallas since coming into the NBA in 1998 and was seen as the least likely player to leave his incumbent team.

JJ- 6 years $119 million .....EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW, awful awful contract. Another classic case of a would be amazing "sidekick" getting paid "first-option" money. Man JJ should look at Pau Gasol. The guy accepted the sidekick role and hes flourishing. If only he would have sacrificed some money to do the same. Sucks for him and the Hawks now. Every wrong thing he does will get criticized so badly now that he's getting paid like Wade and Lebron.

Pierce's 4 year 61 million deal is very fair for both sides. I hate Pierce, but a neutral NBA fan has to appreciate one player trying to stay in one place his whole career. Now we'll see if they get Gay Allen.

Nowitski's 4 year $80 million is also pretty good for both sides. I think 3 out of the 4 years he'll continue to put up good numbers, but when hes 36 I wonder how good he'll be. To bad he'll never win a championship...cuz NYC is finally legit lol.

Raptors sign Kleiza to offer sheet
The Toronto Raptors have signed Denver Nuggets restricted free-agent forward Linas Kleiza(notes) to a four-year, $20 million offer sheet, a league source tells Yahoo! Sports.
If the Nuggets don’t match the deal over the next seven days, the Lithuanian – who played with them from 2005-09 – will be a Raptor. Kleiza played for Greece’s Olympiacos last season and terminated his contract on Wednesday.

Washington Wizards free-agent forward Josh Howard is optimistic his knee injury won’t keep him from landing a new contract soon.
Howard had surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in March and was projected to be out six to eight months. He suffered the injury in just his fourth game with the Washington Wizards after being traded by the Dallas Mavericks.
“The doctors say I’m ahead of schedule in my fourth month of rehab,” Howard told Yahoo! Sports. “I’m optimistic I’ll be ready by the start of the regular-season.”
Howard averaged 12.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in 35 games for Washington and Dallas last season. While Washington was the first team to express interest after free agency began, Howard said Miami, New York, Sacramento, Boston and the Los Angeles Clippers have also been in contact with his agent.
Howard hopes to sign with someone within the next two weeks.
“I’m going to be open-minded,” Howard said. “But I have some loyalty to Washington for getting me out of my situation with Dallas. I have interest in them. But I have to keep my options open.”- rc J. Spears, 12:14 p.m. ET, July 8

Ya. Haywood made out like a bandit. 10-10-2blk w good D @ 30yrsold. But he plays a legit 5...

JJames was an obese clown though who just had one good playoff series. One of the worst signings ever from a sheer stupidity standpoint IMO. The kind of stupidity it took to mortgage our future on another obese 5...

Haywood. You at least know what you're getting for all that bacon being thrown at him. Still a sick contract.
