Is it just me or are the Knicks better when Melo takes fewer shots? I'd like to see the ball in Amare's hands more. Back in the day, the offense ran through the center or PF, as specially if you had a dominant one that can score.

+1, good point to bring up.
Melo's greatest asset as a scorer is his ability to create for himself, create in broken down plays as the go to guy, and to be the go to guy in crunch time spots who can ice games (and play series').
His volume scoring isn't what defines him as a good player -- if anything, volume scoring is what has marked his downfall from being a great player.
Amare has played like **** for a while, tho...but he seems to be kicking up his gears some, so hopefully he can regain his scoring dominance.
Stoudemire was possibly the best inside finisher in the entire NBA, up until this year, and one of the most efficient scorers as a result.
Ideally, we run a fast paced offense with lots of possessions -- that lets everybody eat. STAT with the type of shot volume that makes him a 22+ scorer with .550+ fg% efficiency, and leaving Melo with enough shots to be a 25ppg scorer, based off him finishing shot clock possessions/mid range game/and playing off the double or tripple Effective STAT would receive on the inside.
In theory, this should be possible. But you need both the PG to run the offense and push the pace -- which we just recently got.
And you need all the players' to buy into it -- which includes no laziness, and an understanding and respect for spacing and ball movement.
Needs to get his ass in shape! What happened to the Melo that dunked on people?
Kobe is not an elite defender but he can perform the absolute basics of defense well enough so that he is not a complete liability. Simple things like, boxing out.. etc. Also I don't see Kobe commit stupid frustration fouls or turnovers in big situations like Melo does ALL the time
I fully expect Melo to get his game back soon ~ one thing to note is he is improving and regaining his confidence and ability. But he's not 100%
When Knicks are hitting on all cyclinders, they are either going 7 players+ in double digits or 3-4 with 20+ or more.
The teams too deep, too good ~ and has too many good passionate players from different perspectives. Defensive, rebounding, ball control, 3pt shooting - there is a lot to be excited about. Just look forward to when they can click all 4 quarters ~ and guys really start appreciating playing defense and rebounding.
yeah, im wondering if he is out of his regular (preknicks) basketball shape. denver high altitude gives you a more stamina/cardio when you workout because you're actually working harder.
he should start using this...
sherk using a air restriction mask
I think the old Melo is at least a 45% shooter. The current bum Melo is barely shooting 40%. JR is 38%, BD is barely 30% and Shumpert is 37%. Teams are doubling Novak, Lin, Amare etc because we have no one that can shoot the ball. Shumpert gets a pass because he is a rookie and plays great D. Melo, BD and Jr have no rights to shot the ball right now.

A video on Carmelo's defense, this was made a while ago.

Another great one.

He has to play defense. I just watched the Lakers stop the Celtics today (3/11/2012) they had 4 Lakers, swarming all along the arc against 3-4 3pt shot attempts.
Makes me think how we could have won vs the Celtics a few games ago -_-
look back at his career then start bitching about his shooting.
at the end of a game, when his team is on the road and he has the ball, the opposing crowd holds their breath.
do u know how stupid the knicks would look trading their whole roster last year for melo and then turning around and trading him? theyd look clueless. when you have a supreme talent like him, you gotta work through the kinks. yeah he'll have to hold onto the ball sometimes but the offense will just have to adapt. maybe cut down on that a bit. because when we pass, somebody is bound to get freed up
