I dunno if he said only, but he did want the Knicks to be the team to take him. Even then he's not a big enough name to hold up any trade.
i cant understand why people on this site dont want to trade randolph and gallo for melo.. we got randolph, azzy and turiaf for free.... just so goldenstate can give dlee an extra year.... as far as i am concerned ...they all an go....
Ya. Not pulling the trigger will/would be one of the greatest gambles in Knick history.
And it's a poor one.
Pull the trigger and we have an utmost excellent, sound, secure blueprint for championships with few unknowns and variables reduced.
Don't, and bank in a blueprint that simply has a lot more room for errors, epic failure, and variables that players and management could mess up along the way.
Maybe we can get that 2011 swap of first rounder back from the Rockets as well if we trade Randolph for that 2012 pick. Then toss that in as a sweetener in a package to get Melo.
The trade would look like this.
New York gets: Carmelo Anthony, Renaldo Balkman, $1.9M trade exception
Denver gets: Danilo Gallinari, Eddy Curry, 2012 and 2014 1st rd. pick (2012 from HOU), right to swap 2011 1st rd. picks with NYK
Houston gets: Anthony Randolph
This deal is competitive with Denver getting AK47, Favors and 2 1st's, maybe the Nets deal is still better but hey nothing ventured nothing gained.
What does trading Gallo + Randolph + Douglas for Melo really get us?
Currently, the Knicks are not better than Miami, Orlando and Chicago. Gut the team and add Melo and the Knicks are still not better than Miami, Orlando and Chicago.
So what's the point? To move up two spots in the standings?
We could just sign Melo next year and become contenders for a championship. Or if he signs somewhere else, we use the cap space to get someone else.
I'm sick of talking about Melo. He would rather get his money than win a championship. We don't need players like that here.
^^^^^^^ This is the Big Picture^^^^^^^I am so sick of all this pantie creaming about a player that will not make us a championship contender.
He's not that good that we could rock with any of the big teams in the East in the playoffs and not get our asses handed to us.
In this case I'd like to see what we have w the guys on our roster. I'm so psyched to see what this team we HAVE, that coach D is so excited about, can do.
The problem is that Randolph looks aweomse in training camp and looks like to have more upside than Gallo.
Gallo, however, played a full season last year were Randolph has been hurt the past two seasons like Chandler.
So what if we kept Gallo and Randolph and Randolph always gets hurt, then we are screwed with an injury prone player.
So I am at a crossroads but I don't want to see both guys get traded.
I mentioned previously on other forums that Gallo should go because Melo and Gallo are the same player with Melo being more creative on ofense.
Atleast with Randolph you have somone who can dominate rebounding, offense, and defense where Gallo is all offense and little defense.
You really think that a Melo+Amar'e team isn't better than the Bulls? Seriously?
PG - Felton
SG - Bill Walker (3 point specialist he might as well be)
SF - Carmelo
PF - Amar'e
C - Turiaf
You really think that team can't hang with the Bulls' squad of:
PG - Rose
SG - Korver
SF - Deng
PF - Boozer
C - Noah
Come on our team is EASILY better
Remember when Donnie Walsh and many people didn't want to trade Wilson Chandler for the number 6 pick of the '08 draft because they thought Chandler was a valuable player with tremendous potential? But after Chandler proved how mediocre he really was people were crying because the Knicks missed out on a chance at Ricky Rubio.
I wonder how Knick fans would feel if Gallo ends up becoming a poor man's Andrea Bargnani and Anthony Randolph ends up becoming another Channing Frye.At least with Melo we already know what we're getting from him.
The Knicks could very well have two top 10 players on their roster, but Knick fans would rather have 2 unproven players who could end up being role players for the rest of their careers? Is it only Knick fans who would favor a lineup which has Amar'e, Randolph and Gallo over a lineup which has Amar'e, Melo, and a decent PG? I'm sure the majority of fans of other teams would choose Amar'e and Melo over anything the Knicks have right now.

Im not a Knick fan but i do want them to get better soon so we can have a great Miami Knick rivarie for the next decade like the good old days. Knicks gotta do what ever it takes to get mello on the team even if it means giving up 3 first rounders randolph gallinari and who ever else it takes. If they get mello im sure chris paul will come next year and the knicks will be relavent again and be able compete against the miami's lakers and for the for championship.
I would trade the entire roster and just build the team around amare mello and wait for paul witch is what miami did and you would only have to wait a year 4 paul. Mello wants to come to NY and if it doesn't happen fire the gm
You guys have the rotation ALL WRONG. It'll be...
That is a SICCCCCKKKKKKKK Lineup!!!
