2011 Free agents to target

Okay I know it is a full season away but ever since the Melo trades have died I am thinking about this years progression and next year's free agent class...so Newday.com has a list of 21 of the best free agents in 2011.

Some of the names are players we should target as Plan A-Z.

I will give my important players the Knicks should target and anyone else can give their opinion on the matter.

1) Melo
2)Noah(if he is not singed by the Bulls)
3)Marc Gasol
4)Al Horford
5)Greg Oden only if he can prove that he can play a full season
5)Tayshaun Prince
6)Andrei Kirilenko
7)Shane Battier

So there is my list, obviously Melo is #1 and then our need would be any nice young Center as plan B with an insurance player as a defensive specialist off the bench in Prince, Kirilenko, or Battier for cheap.

Shit. All the more reason to sell the proverbial farm and get Melo.

With Azzy, Chandler, Turiaf coming off books....And our would-be existing cap situation...

Noah, Gasol, Horford, Oden.

Plug in one, and we're talking serious contender and a freakishly scary starting 5.

Felton
Walker
Melo
STAT
Gasol

Our front court...3, 4, and 5...unstoppable. And would really allow Felton, and maybe even especially Walker, to run havoc.

Though this also makes whiffing on Melo a lot easier to digest. We will have all the more cap, can go after our pick of the litter, and really beef up our 5 slot, and go about finding a way to procure a 2, and maybe a nice 6th man type player. Plus having Felton come off books soon, and tradable picks freed up, would have some serious options at making a biggtime PG run.

Hypoethetical, but not out of this world fanasty:

DWill
Douglas-Walker
Gallo-Prince
STAT-AR
Gasol-Moz

I'm not a big fan of that list but I would take Noah, Prince, Gasol in that order. The other guys just don't impress me enough.

Shane Battier should be looked into consideration. A great defender who can also teach others a thing or two. He would be a great mentor and a big help for the Knicks.

Marc Gasol would be an awesome sign but I would like to see what Mozgov can do and potentially become.

Melo is the obvious choice of the group to sign. Not everybody thinks much of him but he is a elite scorer and wants to in the Knicks. He would be welcomed by all New York fans.

Marc Gasol and Al Hortford fill out biggest need which is a rugged center to play next to Amare....but.....I know Atl. will re-sign Hortford (in fact I thought they did already) and Gasol isnt exactly customed made for our offense.

Forget about Prince AK47 or Battier, the last thing we need is anothe SF on this roster!

Forget about Prince AK47 (for a couple of reasons) or Battier, the last thing we need is anothe SF on this roster!

Noah isnt going anywhere!

Greg Oden is a major risk regardless of what he does this season!

Melo will get the most attention, but again he is yet another SF!

1.Melo (clearly the cream of the crop and regardless of how many SF we have you don't pass on him).
2T. Jason Richardson (not realistick that The Suns let him go just to end up in NY, but make no mistake about it, he would represent a major signing)
2T.Tyson Chandler (perfect compliment to Amare!)
3.Toney Parker (wouldve been 2, but it comes down to what Felton brings)
4.Michael Redd (could be had for MLE type money and could pan out well if healthy)
5.Peja ( he too is MLE type money and could be a low risk high reward type)
6.Mo Williams (him being a combo gaurd is why he fell this low on my list, I would like a more traditional SG)
7.Jamal Crawford (yup I said it!)
8. Joel Pryzbilla (another good compliment to Amare)
9.JR Smith (MLE type player who would fit in nicely, he and a player like Tyson Chandler or Joel Pryzbilla would represent a decent upgrade for us and for sure could be had for the 15 million or so we would have in cap)

Couldn't Tony Parker play the 2?

Not sure he'd want to; then again, he would be allowed to let his offensive game run amuck and just tear shit up.

I wouldn't give him max, though, and he might contend for it, and get it, from a team looking to use him as their premier PG.

Need to see how seasons pans out, too.

Depending, and if we get Melo, we may want to splurge and overpay or take a mild risk in getting a guy who could be a bigtime SG for us...Or, a C if Moz doesn't pull through.

Lot of options. Hopefully we get Melo at 40c on the dollar.

if we trade for melo.. we wont ahve to have pay player like ar and gallo... so after this season.. we will have about 10 mill left in cap space.. which is good

amare -17.5 mil
turiaf - 4.3 mil - player option which he will pick up
felton -7 mil
t mo - 3.5 mil - not sure if its guaranteed fully
melo - 16.5 mil

48.8 mil if the cap is 58 mil.. about 10mil left

we dont have to keep guys like fields or rautins.. we can realse them and sign them back at the min we we finish shoping..

we wont be able to use the MLE becuz wed be under the cap

we r weak at the 2 and 5 spot

so i would go for redd at the 2 and tyson or gasolat the 5.. i like noah but he been injured alot.. redd to but id take him on a one or two year..noah will want all of our cap space.. we can probably squeeze both tyson and redd into the ten.. even if we had to send turiaf or t mo packing for a second round pick for cap relief...

all in all.. we ar in a good postion

we can keep Fields for cheap without hurting the salary cap, Rautins we have to see....

10 mil might be enough for Melo if the CBA lowers the salaries

that would be the cap even if we had melo on the books.. we can still get a high end or two mid level players
